    Yeah, I'm thinking roughly:

    10-15 minutes at Beorn's.
    10 minutes wandering Mirkwood
    5-10 minutes of spiders
    20-25 minutes at Thranduil's palace
5 minutes of white water barrelling
15-25 minutes of Dol Goldur stuff
    25-30 minutes at Laketown
And the rest will take place at Erebor.

Those spiders better be pure nightmare fuel and not goofy CGI nonsense.

There's been confirmation they don't speak, right?

Considering PJ is an arachnophobe, I think that part is in safe hands, as spiders are his own particular nightmare fuel.

And he started out in horror too, so I expect only the best.

They speak mentally, when Bilbo wears the ring.

In the movie? I mean I know they did in the book, hence my question. PJ doesn't like talking critters. Hence the mute eagles.

I know what you meant, but when I read "they speak mentally" I (quite immaturely) imagine them speaking like Walter Jr. Sorry, I know that's not cool and all, but some part of me will forever be twelve years old.

It was just as terrifying as it was in the book.

I believe there was a article that they "speak" in the movie when Bilbo is wearing the ring

    A few more press items:

    A light-hearted interview with Dean O'Gorman:
    http://www.theaureview.com/interviews/dean-ogorman-of-the-hobbit-the-desolation-of-smaug-usanew-zealand-2013
In which Richard Armitage goes slightly political:
    http://www.newyorkmoves.com/?p=5200
And he bridges the gap between "book purists" and "film lovers", with some on-point comments about Tauriel:

Lastly, a spoilerific presentation from the German magazine "CINEMA":

So, what would you put in your Thorin cocktail?

So according to Rottentomatoes.com, the movie is going to be 10 minutes longer than AUJ. I'm fine with that.

The German article says otherwise. 1900 effect shots for Smaug versus Journey's 2136 "due to longer runtime." Who knows.
