Incorrect. The answer for critical fans is "diminished". Using "enhanced", "improved" or similar indicated an uncritical fanboy, and therefore an opinion to be dismissed.

I would just leave it blank. Saying either "greatly enhanced" or "greatly diminished" is hyperbolic and fanboyish. Most of the changes were unnecessary, but they were also mostly inconsequential. Fine, I agree that Vader saying "No! NOOOOO!" at the climax of RotJ is annoying, but I won't take anyone seriously who says an added rock next to R2-D2, an extra shot of the X-wings in formation, and added windows in Cloud City ruined the films.

Unlike others, LotR was Bloom's breakthrough movie you can say he couldn't play different characters well but at least his Legolas was a big hit in LotR and I doubt anyone could play better than him.

It's like the Star Wars big three, only Harrison Ford became a big star later.

No. He'd been in starring roles since he was a little kid.

Oh that's right, i've only seen a couple of them, ( North, and the one where he kills Macaulay Culkin, and would say Back to the Future Part II but that was just a cameo appearance )

Movies like LotR shouldn't pick some big names and let them try to use their acting skill to fit the character, but should try to pick actors who fit the characters most, no matter they can play other type of characters or not.

Legolas damn near drug the movie into a hole of silliness. Too contrived.

If Tolkien had intended that much comic book hero elfage, he would have included more about the silly beings.

Yup. Darkslayer did it for me. And he did it correctly.

Aaaaand now I must dismiss all your opinions. Critical my ***. A critical fan realizes how the changes improved the films. An uncritical nostalgia-bound person doesn't get it.

    Oh no you didn't.

    I beg to differ.

    glossary please.
The movies shat upon what was near perfection.

I did. And if Jackson goes back and tweaks LOTR using the tech in the Hobbit (let's face it, small towns looked more populated in the Hobbit than Gondor's capital in the originals) it'll ruin those too. Basically, the changes take something that captivated millions and says "no you fools, you shouldn't have loved it because it didn't look wonderful!" But we did, and without the changes which keep mucking about with something that didn't need it. Adding the Vader "nooo" or the Greedo shooting first rubbish (because George got older and decided his kids shouldn't see that stuff. Luckily they didn't have the Cairo swordsman shoot first in Raiders, while they're at it) was idiotic.

The novels are epic but not perfect, really, some changes were indeed necessary because movies show the story in different way.

Don't want to turn this into a GL bash thread but the main problem for me is that the originals aren't widely available in the best, most HQ format.

He can tinker the films all he wants, it's his right as a director and the owner of the franchise. But it's also his duty as the director and purveyor of that selfsame franchise to provide an option between the old and the new. Unfortunately, he's saddled his newer versions with several gaping logical flaws, that beyond the intent and spirit of the changes like Greedo Shoots First and the Jabba talking to Han scene which are bad to the core, the Blu-Ray changes largely just look like they weren't paying attention. Disappearing rock formations and wonky big-small doors being the worst offense this time around.

Even more technical things like colour timing are messed with.
