If Smaug radiates heat, wouldn't the entirety of the Lonely Mountain's hoard be molten gold?

    There you go, debate over.

    More nominations for TDOS:

5 from the Visual Effects Society:

2 from the Motion Picture Sound Editors:

And 3 from the almighty Academy:

Not so bad, and I still think most organisations are holding their nominations until they can round up the tale with TABA.

Oh, and a happy late birthday to James Nesbitt, whose portrayal of the wistful Bofur went straight into our hearts. May he continue to charm us un TABA and in other films to come.

On the subject of awards - what leads you to believe that folks are holding out until the final movie to lavish it with praise? I certainly had a lot of fun watching these movies, but I wouldn't go out of my way to cite them as examples of high quality film.

Haven't seen it. I refuse to give my money to the guy who ruined the Harry Potter franchise.

lol. Prisoner of Azkaban sucked, but it wasn't much worse than the first two horribly dull, paint-by-numbers adaptations. Nor was it much worse than the subsequent films.

And it came out ten years ago. Get over it. I'd understand not seeing any of his films if Cuaron were simply a bad director overall, but he's not.
FotR and TTT actually got BP nominations, and that was when the category was limited to five noms.

Granted, Lord of the Rings had the most recognition for Return of the King, but there were nominations for acting and direction as early as Fellowship of the Ring, correct? Beyond that, the Lord of the Rings certainly had a far greater critical response than the Hobbit films have had. So while I can certainly agree with you that there was a bit of a sense that the Oscars held out until the final film, I also have to put in the caveat that those were also superior films. Maybe the final Hobbit movie will completely blow me and every critic under the sun away, but I've got strong reservations.

I'll see it, I just didn't want to pay money to see it at the theater. I'm pretty picky about the stuff I go to see lol.

Well, to that I can only say: we'll see how it goes next December, and then we'll know where we stand. It is rather difficult to judge a trilogy on only two installments, after all, especially installments that are so interconnected. Perhaps, like us, the different corporations are holding their breaths and hoping for the best for TABA? After all, it's not over until it's over, and maybe they feel the same...

Yes, but we're not judging a trilogy, are we? We're looking at each film, or rather, that's what those who grant these awards are doing.
