Romeo and Juliet, indeed. It's a pretty silly story line, but I actually liked their two characters in TDOS. And I guess part of my question about her death is why they seem to be enjoying hinting at it in the trailer. And the Thranduil part in particular; is he slapping her or something worse? Her hair flies up in a way that almost looks like he's swinging at her with a sword, but what could make one elf do that to another? Odd.

Also, interesting points about the bats and/or vampires. That's another example of something from Middle-earth where my background knowledge is really pretty lame.

 

Although part of me would enjoy seeing a character I like (Thranduil) remove a character I dislike (Tauriel) from the movie, I hope it doesn't happen. When Elves kill each other, it is supposed to be a HUGE deal in Tolkien's writings. It only ever happened 3 times, each time with huge consequences, and this was not one of the times.

I haven't... I haven't even read The Hobbit. And I've only read parts, somehow, of the LOTR books.

Interesting... it seems like they could have at least used some footage from one of the TBOTFA trailers, to make this video feel more complete (meaning, represent the whole Hobbit trilogy as much as possible).

 

They should have just used Arwen.
