Calm down, it's just something some fans mentioned. No one knows yet for sure what the second film is going to be about. Although it's actually quite possible that it will deal with the White Council chasing Sauron out of Dol Guldur, and other events leading directly to LOTR. But nothing has been confirmed yet.
Because it is way way way too long. Come on, it's supposed to be a movie about a giant gorilla getting loose in New York. 2 hours, tops, is all it needed.
I was pretty entertained by the whole thing the first time I saw it, but for me it has very limited rewatchability. All of that material was unnecessary for the overall story. The length of the LOTR films on the other hand have never bothered me. But that's because there is a lot of material and storylines involved there. King Kong is a simple story, and to do it right it should have been a lot shorter.
Oh, you mean the scenes that went on for 4 hours, and were not only waaaaaay over the top, but really had about 95% more filler than needed? Can you imagine an extended version of that film? I'd probably have to cut my eyelids off, just to stay awake during that.
I will never watch King Kong again unless an hour is cut out of the film. Oh, and Jack Black was miscast.
I'm guessing people were profoundly disappointed at how not-special it was, i.e. because it was a turd. ES
I enjoyed King Kong very much. No, it's not something I need to rewatch, but then I vary rarely watch anything more than once.
But the Hobbit is a prequel to the Lord of the Rings... they're going to split the hobbit! NNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!
They're going to add the White Council and the diving of the Necromancer (Sauron) out of Mirkwood, which was aluded to in the Hobbit and expanded upon in the Apendices. So we hopefully will get to see more Cate Blanchett, Hugo Weaving and Christopher Lee.
