The Thorin poster is too 'airbrushed'. Difficult to see him underneath all that style. Difficult to connect. I know he's the top man, but he would've been better served with the same treatment all the other dwarves have been given. Elevate him in some other way, please. I look at all the other dwarf posters and I connect with the characters. I see them. Not Thorin. My favourites are Gandalf, Balin, Dwalin and Bofur. Balin's is beautifully arranged - so as a poster I'd plump for that as the best.
Balin looks like Father Christmas on that poster. Which is not a bad thing per se. And I know I was perplexed as to why Galadriel is holding the Light of Eärendil, since it was a gift for Frodo, but it just occurred to me that maybe it will figure in the Dol Guldur subplot - light in dark places where all other lights have gone out and all that.
Well I can't imagine they would have it on the poster and not include it in the film, so Dol Guldur seems as good a bet as any.
I fairly recently learned that Radegast was probably a minor Slavic god of hospitality and crops. Radegast is also a brand of Czech beer.
Saw the new trailer in front of Cloud Atlas last night, and it was definitely the highlight of the evening. For me the trailer wasn't quite as good as the one with the dwarves singing at Bilbo's place, but it still gave a pretty good overview of how and where Jackson has adhered to, and deviated from, the novel.
