I wonder if Shore has begun any preliminary work on the Hobbit scores. For LOTR he was working far in advance of the films' releases.

I hope he integrates it thematically with LOTR, in addition to new material. Themes for hobbits, elves, Gollum, and certainly the ring (history of the ring theme!) would all certainly find a place in The Hobbit. Probably others as well, but it's been a good seven or eight years since I read it, and that's what was of the top of my head.

Yeah for sure, there are themes from the LOTR scores that will make appearances in the Hobbit scores.

According to this interview back in October, he has indeed.

Sweet. I really hope Shore doesn't just rehash LotR. I mean, seeing some themes reappear will be nice, but I really want new music. Make the Mirkwood music not just a mix of Rivendell and Lothlorian, new music for Laketown, the dwarves, and ESPECIALLY Smaug needs to have badass music.

There's no reason to think Shore would do that...

eh, I'd like to see someone else. Del Toro has a very personal style of filmmaking, and, if directing, should be in control of the mood of the music. I'd rather see a Del Toro film, with music matching respectively, than have the worry of thinking about past scores.

I'm aware. I'd just like to see the films made far differently, and thought that a similar score would dictate similar images. If this film is riddled with helicopter shot after helicopter shot, I'll vomit on the person next to me.

The images dictate the score, not the other way round. The films need a continuity with the previous films and the music is an important part of that. I think you just need to trust that del Toro and Shore will be able to stay continuitous while still injecting new life and energy into the Hobbit films.

Not to discredit either person, but i'd like to see a film that's stylistically different. I could care less about the project if it's going to be a rehash of the others. I'd like to see different sets, etc. I'm a big fan of Del Toro's work, so I hope he's given freedom to tackle the project in his own way. Think Burtons batman, and the current breed. That's what I'm getting at.

I'd like to see del Toro's vision within the world of Middle Earth we've already seen on screen. That's largely the reason to do these films right now. I mean come on, Peter Jackson is executive producing. Peter Fran and Phillipa are co-writing the screenplays. You are not going to get solely del Toro's vision no matter what.

I guess all I have to say is that it's a waste of talent then, imo.

Thankfully del Toro does not agree with you.

And how exactly do you know this? Only time will tell. If it turns out like the prior films, though...

I would surmise that if del Toro felt it was a waste of talent, then he would not have agreed to do it in the first place. And let's try and get this back onto the score for the Hobbit films...

For those who may have missed it...

I'm fairly certain I've heard other reports since April concerning Shore's preparations for the score... nothing major though.

Well I know who I'm not sitting next to in the theater then.

Thread status says "Not open for further replies".

I find its lack of faith disturbing.

    Oops, sorry, wrong franchise.

Um, something something about Kenobi The White...

    Three more soundtracks!

    Then three more extended soundtracks!

Then three more rounds of people recording random tracks that never made it to the OSTs!

Then three hundred thousand more remixes of the soundtracks!

    =Three bazillion more songs!!!!

No lies, the trailer music was awesome. Especially the dwarves song. I cannot wait.

The music in LOTR was amazing. If Howard Shore is doing the Hobbit music, and with Peter Jackson directing these movies will be amazing. I still need to get the LOTR soundtracks. Both regular and Extended.

Why bother with the regular ones?
