Yeah, you know things are close when we get soundtrack info. Can't wait until the 30 second previews are up on amazon
Can't say I'm the biggest fan. =\ I already broke my promise of not listening to the score before I see the movie!
I rather liked it. Definitely sounds like Middle Earth music. It's fine for a preview. I am sure the scores will be good.
I got a free download of the track "Old Friends" with my advance ticket purchase today. I rather like it. Not sure what part of the film this is supposed to be around, but it's definitely lots of Shire theme.
The released track definitely feels like a complete retread of the FOTR track 'Concerning Hobbits', but I think the Complete Recordings track 'Old Friends' is the music that accompanies the first scene with Gandalf and Bilbo in Bag End.
Rolling Stone feature on Neil Finn's "Song of the Lonely Mountain." I'll admit I wasn't too sure about this song when I first heard the 20-second preview a week ago, but I take that back now.
I saw that! I am on total lockdown at this point. I did preorder though... And bought my tickets yesterday!!!
OK caved and listened to it. I always passed Shore off as a rather dull composer outside of LOTR, but man, this is a great soundtrack. It does justice to the other films, and genuinely sounds like The Hobbit novel. There are tons of new themes, and the old themes are only used when they're needed. Like the old Moria track, or the Khazad-Dum drums. Or the Ring theme, only when Bilbo meets Gollum. But themes like the Aragorn/Fellowship one have been completely replaced by new ones. And the new ones are epic. I'm going to have to see the film to place some of these though... "A Good Omen" definitely has an awesome new theme, but I have no idea who/what it's for. I'll have to listen to this a few more times, but it might be my favorite of the bunch so far. Maybe.
It's hard to say if it's actually a "complete recording" of the soundtrack... without the bonus tracks it clocks in at just two hours.
Yeah it's probably just a more complete OST, but cannot be considered a "Complete Recording" as we don't even know if this includes all the music from the theatrical release of the film (unlikely) and we don't know if they will do Extended Editions of the films on disc like they did with LOTR.
Most likely we won't get a Complete Recording until the Extended Editions (these had BETTER exist!) are released!
The recording sessions only finished a week or two ago, so there must be some music missing from this release. Oh well, it will probably come out eventually.
