Anyone know the song that was playing when Thorin was standing on the tree and about confront Azog?
I'll try to find it. I have to consult my Blu-ray and Soundtrack files
It sounded suspiciously similar to the Black Riders piece in LOTR
It's part of "Out of the Frying-Pan", but I'm not sure if it's exactly the same music.
Jarren it's the same theme. Leit-Motif style scores use themes to underscore various characters, places, situations, etc. It's common for them to repeat and there's not really anything suspicious about it.
That's what I figured. I didn't mean suspicious in a bad way. I love how Howard Shore uses his music to define unifying themes. The LOTR (and adding The Hobbit soon) soundtrack is my favorite film score of all time.

These are the pipes you are looking for: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uilleann_pipes
Shore tends to use a lot of Irish instruments in his music for the Shire.
The Shire music instrumentation is totally fine with me. I am not a fan of the bagpipes, or Uilleann pipes, as used in the Erebor track. They just don't fit to me. It instantly evokes something like Titanic.
And what about An Unexpected Party?
(I hope that DOS/TABA do not use them alot, for your sake )
May I ask a sort-of related question?
Year ago, I picked up a multi-LP set of the complete soundtrack (both music and voices) of the Rankin-Bass animated version of "The Hobbit". Just wondering, has anyone else have this, as well?
Does anyone know the song that was playing when The Eagles were flying the group in the sky?
HOBBIT THEME! I love this theme.
Any impossible task is made easier with this theme. Had to do a bunch of number punching on a spreadsheet all day and MAN WAS IT EPIC.
That is epic
Been listening to this score again lately. It's just so great and is settling in alongside all of the LOTR scores for me.
Just re-watched this film (er, I mean 5K Digital Video) the other day and I desperately want the score, but I'm hoping for a Complete Recording release at some point.
I assume the complete recordings will come somewhere down the road, after all three films are done.
Mmm...isn't there supposed to be an Extended Edition of the film soon-ish? IIRC the complete recordings were co-released with those for LOTR.
That's plenty close for something I won't be buying.
Anyway, yeah, I bet that's when the complete recordings show up.
They were released several years after the extended editions. We first saw FOTR-CR in 2005 versus the 2002 EE.
Yup Bacon is right. It was several years later.
Ah, okay. My mistake.
