So I just finished the Hunger Games trilogy, and really liked it, despite it being a bit dark (or maybe because it was dark, I dunno).

They are in the casting phase of pre-production and I'm getting excited for this movie, especially now that Stanley Tucci has been cast, he is a favorite of mine.

Elizabeth Banks as Effie was also pretty inspired, imo.

I agree it was pretty dark and I'm surprised it was marketed at teens in the book stores. The detail of the kills in the arena were really graphic and easily visualized. Just the despair through the whole series was pretty depressing to read.

As for the film, this seems to be one of those stories that should stay in books IMO.

I haven't read the books but I've become vaguely familiar with them as they've been casting. I'm interested to see how they pull off the dark aspects of these books and how it goes over with the public. Partly because I'm wondering if successful execution of these adaptations could finally mean an open door for Ender's Game.

    Yeah, heavy, heavy series.

And graphic. I can't see this movie being below a PG13. Just the premise alone makes Harry Potter look light and fluffy.

Woody Harrelson as Haymitch (confirmed now) also seems pretty inspired, though he's more drug-addled than drunk normally.

Hadn't heard of The Hunger Games, but it reminds me of Stephen King's The Long Walk.

I read these per my wife's recommnedation...I liked them quite a bit. The movies could be pretty good (I like the casting so far). Anyway...I don't have anything to add...if this were a facebook status I would have just liked it and moved on. :p

Saw where Woody Harrelson was added. If he can pull off drunk instead of just crazy, he'll be good, but I dunno. He doesn't seem "soft at heart" enough to me.

Zombieland had a little of this, actually. As did (hands in "man card") Indecent Proposal to a certain extent.

i always thought that natural born killers kind of ruined his career. it was really a great performance, but it's kind of hard to look at him the same way after that.

And I guess that's why I'm saying that. Ever since then, Harrelson's come off as more psycho, than merely messed up. Haymitch is just a washed up tribute, who spends all his time drinking (though he's not abusive or crazy) that ends up being a pretty deep character due to his experiences.

Well, even so, everything about the prose still screams "written for teens" to me. I think the target market was... well, the target market.

About time something new. That teaser trailer was way too teasy. :p

Also, interesting look they went with for haymitch. I was hoping he would just reprise his Roy Munson character from Kingpin.

(First book spoilers:) Rue is so young. Just looking at the poster makes me sad.

Love Lenny Kravitz's look, with the gold eyeliner. He was my favorite casting choice by far, I really think he can pull off Cinna.

I like how Katniss is facing the opposite direction of all the other posters.

I fear they will market and make this movie for twitards. :(
It's so not even in that ballpark.

From all the advertising I've gotten in at the theater it sure does look that way. Teens and young woman.
