I'd be down to interview the Hellhammer in the future, given my new title, but if anyone else wants to do it, you can volunteer as well. Then the Hellhammer can choose who he wants to do his interview? How's that?

A new day begins here at our Imperial Spoiler Surveillance Station as our facility is washed in warm, soothing rays of the bright, rising sun... which is then promptly blasted into oblivion by a new experimental superweapon. Through the dying throes of yet another solar system, a lone shuttle makes it's way to our Interrogation Room, carrying aboard a veteran of speculations long gone.

Our guest today prefers writing his posts in red and therefore we think it is only appropriate to give him a very special welcome.

    Chapter X: The Red Welcome

Please welcome aboard DarthTunick ! Thanks for signing up for the interview and hope you folks enjoy the read!

    --------------------

    1. How did you first come across the Jedi Council forums?

Sometime between December of '98-January of '99, as I forget exactly when this happened. :p We first got a computer here in the Tunick household during Christmas of '98, and naturally once we got an internet hookup, I began to scour for anything Star Wars related, which of course lead me to TF.N. At the beginning I would just read up on news, etc, on the front page, until I decided to lurk around the forums. Being the procrastinator that I am, it took me over a year to finally register. Though it's long since been pruned, my first post came in a thread asking this question (as well as I can remember it anyway): "What was the most shocking quote to date in the saga?". My oldest surviving post dates back to February of '01:

Just ignore my current signature there. :p Though I do have my share of regrets, I've never regretted being a member here for 13+ years. So much has changed, but this place (even with the changes here) has been a constant force in my life. That is a great thing.

    2. Indeed it is a very good thing. Have any real life friendships resulted from over a decade of posting here?

I like to think that many of the folks I've come to know here, many who post a daily/near daily basis (and some who don't) are friends of some sort. Especially with Facebook, we've come to know a lot about each other. When it comes to outside the JC happenings, I've had the pleasure of meeting Armenian_Jedi, Evil_King_Wiggins, Miana Kenobi, Lowbacca_1977, PRENNTACULAR, MrZAP & FareLeone. I've also talked to some others on the phone; I hope to meet a lot more at Celebration 7 next year in Anaheim.

    3. What is your fondest Star Wars related memory?

There are so many! My top 2: 1) Getting the Special Editions on VHS as a birthday gift in October of '97... I had been introduced to the OT late that summer at a friend's house, and of course was completely enamored (mostly) with what I saw. I just had to get it, and though I had to wait for a bit, it made that birthday rather special. 2) Midnight showing of ROTS... I had never done a midnight showing for any film on Opening Night up to that point, and since I figured this was going to be the last SW film (ha!), I wanted a midnight showing experience, which didn't disappoint in terms of excitement, etc, despite the issues I had with the film.

    4. What is your favorite Star Wars possesion? (toy, poster, costume, books, comics, various merchandise, etc.)

Got them at Target sometime in '97... my first ever Star Wars toys! For the past few years they've occupied a spot atop the DirecTV box in our downstairs living room. A constant reminder of awesomeness.

    5. So. A Sequel Trilogy, who would’ve thought. Before the announcement, did you actually expect this to ever happen?

Never, never, never. Lucas seemed rather definitive that ROTS would be the end, and for many reasons, it made sense. Thankfully, things have changed.

    6. What was your initial reaction to the news of the Disney sale and the upcoming Sequel Trilogy?

One of the greatest natural highs I've ever had... utterly hyper/excited for much of the remainder of that day*. Some context: the announcement was made on October 30th, 2012 (duh), which also happened to the opening night for the '12-'13 NBA season, and my beloved L.A. Lakers were scheduled to play that evening. Thus, I was already in a rather delightful mood, despite having to work that day. Sometime between 1-2pm, as I'm checking my phone in my super secret hiding place (in the garden department), I come across my Facebook news feed, and that's how I found out about the sale, etc. Needless to say, I couldn't concentrate for the remainder of my shift (which ended at 4). It was like I had received multiple adrenaline shots at once, while in the middle of a sugar rush. So much discussion had to be had on Facebook, and here on the JC. I listened to nothing but SW music on my iPod during the bus ride/walk home from work.

*The Lakers last their game that night. :p

    7. Were you around for the PT speculation? If so, what’s your favorite moment from that period?

Indeed I was, though of course for TPM it was at a lurking capacity. Oddly enough, my favorite moment didn't originate from these forums*, but rather another SW site I visited then (I can't remember the name): Someone had a theory that Kitster was going to end up being Boba Fett, as his ship (of course) was named Slave II. I thought it made so much sense! Oh well. :p

*If I had to chose a moment from the JC, it would be the absolute freak out that folks had when it was announced that members of 'N Sync might make small cameos in AOTC. Such fury! Such umbrage!

    8. Just how spoiled do you plan to be for Episode 7?

Utterly spoiled. It's how I did it for the PT, and it didn't ruin the enjoyment I had for those films. Also, in my humble opinion, the spoiler forums here are a much crazier, funner experience than their non-spoiler counterparts

    9. Have to agree with you on the spoiler forum craziness. Can we hope to see you around other threads a bit more once the real spoilers start pouring out?:p

Of course... I've ventured out briefly to other threads, but I can't really get into speculation until filming begins, and thus the wave of spoilers hits the fan.

    10. What is your favorite theory concerning Episode 7 from these boards?

The existence of corrupt Jedi aiding The Empire in their efforts to re-gain former glories. The idea of corrupt Jedi is a fascinating one to me, because it would something rather shocking to see (aside from Count Dooku that is ).

    11. What do you think will be the state of the Empire (or it's Remnant) in the ST? What about it's relations with the New Republic?

Something a bit smaller than the Trade Federation... a force to be reckoned with in some respects, but lacking (obviously) the power & resources to dominate large sections of The Republic.

    12. And the least favorite?

Anything EU related, as I've only ever read parts of one of the Thrawn books once (and maybe parts of another book, but I can't remember), and never had any real interest in the EU* since. Thus, it's exclusion from the ST is of no concern to me.

*Excluding playing the Shadows of the Empire video game on N64. :p

    13. Describe your ideal Villain in the ST and who would you cast to play him?

An enterprising Jedi who becomes corrupted into betraying Luke, or whatever Jedi is at the helm of the order during Episode VII. This corrupt Jedi is egged on/helped by some fellow with Imperial sympathies, though he could be directly a part of whatever is left of The Empire. Rather than turning into a Sith, this Jedi wants to run things as he sees it without having to fully turn into an ultra evil soul. A version of Nucky Thompson so to speak, specifically season 1 (Boardwalk Empire) Nucky Thompson. Honestly, I haven't the faintest idea who could play the Jedi (Cumberbatch maybe?), though I can think of a few actors as the Imperial fellow: Richard Armitage, Mark Strong, Tom Hiddleston.

    14. And the Hero?

Either Luke, Leia and Solo (perhaps all three) aiding whoever is change of The Republic (or whatever the post ROTJ society is called) to quell threats to peace, etc. Ideally, given lapse in time, and thus their characters ages, one them ought to perish in this endeavor in order to make it a more emotional film.

    15. Whose death do you think would have the greatest impact and what manner of death should it be?

Han Solo and/or Chewbacca, and they ought to go out in a blaze of glory along with the Millennium Falcon. Save for the time he was encased in carbonite ( :p ), Solo is nearly invincible. It would be rather jarring to see him go. Of course you could say the same (almost) with Luke & Leia, but I like Han more. :p

    16. Every Star Wars movie needs awesome supporting characters. Any ideas for those?

Senators, political folks on Coruscant who are a pain in the ass to everyone. Also, aside from 3PO & R2, some new droids added to the mix. And of course Jedi, multiple Jedi's potentially. It will be interesting to see just how well they're doing... if they're doing well that is.

    17. It would be interesting to see what Luke does with the Jedi. How do you see a potential New Jedi Order in the ST?

Not a prosperous as what we saw in the PT, but large enough for them to have a social, etc, impact on the new Republic. Luke wouldn't be, well shouldn't be, as wise/calm as Yoda was inESB, so perhaps that would make for an Order not as pristine/organized as before.

    18. Any special cameos or easter eggs you’d like to see in Episode 7?

David Tennant playing any random role, as long as he has a line or two. That, and NO inclusion of the Wilhelm Scream. It's overdone & I'm sick of it.

    19. This one’s a bit tougher than it seems at first glance. We don’t have any facts so let’s just go by gut feeling. How good do you think Episode 7 will be? Are you optimistic? Pessimistic? Reserved? Will it be great? Abominable? Average?

I'm very optimistic, since J.J. Abrams is involved, and I thought he did a stupendous job in re-booting the Star Trek series. I think Episode 7 will go down as a fantastic film, one that did its job better of setting up a new trilogy than TPM did (and in being an overall superior film)... but, it won't be an ultra, super duper classic like ANH and ESB.

    20. Is there a particular, weirdly specific scene that you’ve come up with in great detail that you’d love to see in the ST, regardless of how plausible that is?

Not yet, but I just came up with this on the spot: Han's sitting in a bar, nursing a drink. This is how we're first introduced to him, because at his age, he'd just rather relax in bar than to get mixed up in anything. :p

    21. Congratulations. You’ve been contacted by The Powers That Be to create a ten episode Star Wars series. Live action, animated, CGI… it’s up to you. Give us a short synopsis.

It would take place on Coruscant, specifically focusing on its seedy underbelly, both politically & elsewhere. Think Star Wars meets Boardwalk Empire, mixed in with elements of The Departed, Law & Order, and Casino. The main characters would be a Senator, The Supreme Chancellor, a gangster, an enterprising business person (or alien) and non-Jedi law enforcement. The possibilities for all the supporting roles are endless.

    22. Episodes X, XI and XII - yea or nay? Why?

MAYBE. Let's see what kind of new characters & stories are introduced during the ST. If any of them are strong/interesting enough, I could see another trilogy of films in 20-30 years time.

    23. And what about a new Saga focusing on a new time period, distant past or the far future, with new heroes, villains and themes?

The far future, somewhere around 500-1000 years post ST/OT/PT. Isn't that what was done for the 2nd Star Trek television series? I think that worked out rather well.

    24. Let’s talk about the Saga in general a bit. A classic question - favorite movie?

I know it's a bit of a cliche among many fans, but it's The Empire Strikes Back. The dark mood present throughout much of the film, that certain revelation we get towards the end, the introduction of one the all time great pieces of cinematic music (you which one I'm talking about), and so on. So much of this film is done well. I will say though that ANH gets some consideration from time-to-time, especially since I think that film has the overall best musical score in the entire saga.

    25. Which scene from the Saga did have the strongest emotional impact on you?

Specifically for the music here... it's so haunting, perfectly illustrating the torn feelings of Luke and seeing Vader becoming over matched & helpless. Whenever I've had some bad luck/down periods in my life, I tend to think of that piece of music.

    26. If there was one thing you could change about anything in the Saga - what would it be?

    Enough said.

Well, that and I've always felt that Anakin ought to have been a teenager in TPM. Damn it.

    27. What was your least appropriate use of a Star Wars quote in real life?

"They came from behind!" It's best that I don't describe the context there.

    28. If you lived in GFFA, what would be your ideal occupation?

Owner of a tobacco/liquor store in Mos Eisley or on Coruscant. Something about sitting around all day, having a smoke, sipping on liquor while tending to those who have the same proclivities would be very appealing to me. Think of all the interesting people, aliens, droids, etc, that would come into the shop! So many stories I could tell!

    29. Sounds like a classy joint. Got a name for it yet?

The Buzzed Side of The Force

    30. Well... a place like that must have a very interesting "house special" cocktail or home-brew... got any ideas?

A drink I like to make, and this might sound disgusting to some of you: Vodka (preferably a smooth kind, like a vanilla or cake flavored version) + soda (Pepsi or Coca-Cola) + Peppermint Schnapps. I'd call it the "Schmuck's Sunday Special". It's a really smooth tasting drink, with a bit of a kick.

    31. Favorite Force ability?

Levitation/moving around objects. Would come in handy when shopping, moving, at restaurants, stuff of that nature.

    32. Let’s move away from Star Wars for a bit. Have any hobbies or interesting pastimes?

Plenty! I love to follow current events via listening to local talk radio, watching cable news, and following various internet blogs & sites... particularly with television news, although I know so much of it is full of BS, spin, and other biases, I can't help but to watch. Morning Joe on MSNBC is my favorite basic cable news program. Love the format (a round tableesque discussion, and a lot of the time the opening block of the show will run 15-20+ minutes without a commercial break), even if the hosts can get on my nerves from time-to-time. It's lead-in program, Way Too Early is also something I love to watch. Bill Maher's Real Time show on HBO is my other favorite political program. As a kid, I drew out and taped to a living room wall a version of the KNBC 4 logo, and pretended to anchor the news. When anchors would shift around the various local channels, I'd noticed and wonder what exactly happened at their former channel. I watched just as much local news growing up as I did cartoons & other television programming. When it comes to local radio, I podcast programming from KFI, the top (talk) station here in Los Angeles. A dream job would be to have a job there, preferably on-air.

Other hobbies including drinking, smoking (cigars & hookah), miniature golfing, watching wrestling (WWE & independent promotions), watching certain television shows (South Park,Boardwalk Empire, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Cheers, Olbermann, I Love Lucy, Law & Order: SVU, Doctor Who (just got into that a few months ago), Futurama, Family Guy, Around The Horn, PTI, among others), going out to the cinema (though that's been decreasing lately), and course my absolute love & adoration for my two favorite sports franchises: the L.A. Dodgers & L.A. Lakers. There's nothing I enjoy more than going out to Dodger Stadium for a baseball game. Even in a loss, there's something to enjoy about spending time there.

    33. Any other favorite franchises, besides Star Wars?

The Godfather (yes, even Part III), Indiana Jones, BTTF, The View Askew Universe (Kevin Smith), Nolan's Batman trilogy, Jurassic Park (excluding Part III), the Halloween series, Child's Play, Toy Story, Godzilla, The Lord of the Rings (Peter Jackson), Men in Black, Austin Powers, & Analyze This/Analyze That.

    34. We’ve barely stepped into the year 2014. Any specific goals you hope to achieve by the end of the year?

Getting a job. I need a steady financial situation... having to borrow money from family for leisurely activities & needing to use an EBT card to buy food really, really sucks.
