I can see you enjoy complaining about Jar Jar, why don't you create your own thread to complain about him then, since this IS the Jar Jar Appreciation thread, not the Jar Jar Complaining Thread.

I got into a conversation about the humor in Eps 1 & 2, not about JarJar in particular. However you've made a fair point. I'll try not to rain on your parade any longer [face_peace]

I always thought Jar Jar must have had a little bit of Goofy in him.

My favorite thing about Jar Jar is that he just doesn't want to be involved in the big battle of Naboo. Love the moment where the other Gungan urges Jar Jar to not give up and Jar Jar immediately gives up. It's a small thing and is certainly played for humor more so than any serious statement on war or violence, but nonetheless I feel Star Wars as a whole would be a little less special if this moment had not happened and instead we got a Chewie stand-in who heroically bashed a bunch of battle droids.

Even as a kid, Jar Jar reminded me of Goofy.

Not surprising as both characters have A LOT of Buster Keaton in them:

    Excellent!

These ones are Harold Lloyd not Keaton but silent comedy is the point.

Yeah, sorry for that screw up. They are indeed Harold Lloyd, but they were both inspirations for the type of physical humor Jar Jar was emulating. Basically like both Keaton and Lloyd were in their films... Jar jar is us, the audience. He's the everyman fish out of water.

What a offensive thing to say so your pretty much saying were all just PT apologists making excuses for these so called "Objectivity" bad films. Your entitled to your views but the line is crossed when you start to generalize and throw out the OBJECTIVY term. There is no objectivity in art period.

Personally, I think that that person more or less proved my point in their follow-up posts, so I didn't comment back.

See, "gusher", I can handle. It's a reasonable analog to "basher".

But I tend to think the word "apologist" should be reserved for people who apologize for regimes that butcher men, women, and children, or religious institutions that shelter fascist mad men and child abusers. I don't think it has any business being used to denigrate people who find enjoyment and worth, in things others do not, in a bunch of space wizard movies, personally.

I know, I hate that word too. I feel like anyone who says anything nice about the PT is now labeled an "apologist".

Some people prefer to throw loaded terms around than engage in constructive dialogue; or concede that other people simply view things differently to themselves.

True, like labeling critics of the PT as "haters". Generalising PT critics into one group & continually bringing up RLM as if every PT critic refers to them in their arguments. That sort of thing.

Just searched for the word "hater" on the previous page where you used the term "apologist".

    Couldn't find it.

You won't have to look far to find it. It's a term thrown alot in this part of the forum.

Oh, well. Some do seem to live to hate, though.

That's a bit pathological, in my view.

Agreed. As is being so insecure & sensitive about something you're a fan of you feel the need to argue with every single negative word about it. (not referring to you personally).

i don't agree with that. There's plenty of people that don't care for something. When we talk about haters we're talking about people who feel compelled to rant about it every day , in every star wars article, in every star wars post on facebook. "Look here's a picture from Return of the Jedi..." Comments: "The prequels suck ! Jar Jar die !!"

    that's what we're talking about.
