BOOKS

What does Albus Dumbledore really see in the Mirror of Erised? 10 points.

Albus Dumbledore sees Harry Potter?s parents. Albus? love and affection for Harry makes his biggest heart?s desire to be Harry?s desire as well. Dumbledore would?ve given anything to have Harry grow up as a normal child in a loving family. He didn?t want to make Harry?s life miserable and full of tough choices, like dying. Dumbledore would gladly have taken Harry?s place, but he knew that was impossible. Dumbledore throughout the books seeks to make sure that Harry is as sheltered from his fate as possible. I truly believe Albus would have seen James and Lily Potter in the mirror because that it what would?ve made Harry most happy and meant that Voldemort was not involved in the wizard world.

MOVIES


What scenes were deleted from Deathly Hallows that you think should be added back and why? May do up to 2. 10 points.

I would add in a scene with Phineas Nigellus while Ron, Hermione and Harry were in the Forest of Dean. It makes absolutely no sense how Snape knows where to put the sword. I know they show the mirror, but that doesn?t explain it. Leaving this scene out leaves a major plot hole.

The scene showing Fred?s death is necessary to the movie. Harry does not want people to die for him. Witnessing the death of one of the Weasley, his surrogate family, pushes the point deeper. Watching Fred die adds to Harry?s determination to end Voldemort. Not only did handling Fred?s death off-screen harm Harry?s character (and a theme of the movie), but it cheapened Fred?s character.

THINGS TO COME


What will any of the next generation (Teddy, H/G and R/H?s kids, etc.) do after they graduate from Hogwarts? May do up to 3. 10 points.

Teddy Lupin- After going through a rebelliousness phase, Teddy Lupin worked for werewolf rights. He was determined to stay out of his deceased parents? legacy. While he hadn?t inherited any of his father?s wolf-like characteristics, he?d experienced instances of prejudice due to his heritage. He and Victoire Weasley broke up when they realized they wanted different things out of life.

Fred Weasley grew tired of everyone comparing him to his long-dead uncle. While he had a sense of humor on par with his other relatives, he wasn?t as funny as Fred. He turned to his Uncle Percy for help. Percy understood what it was like to be a misfit in one?s own family. Instead of working at his father?s joke shop, Fred obtained a fellowship in the economic division of the Spanish equivalent of the Ministry of Magic. After 15 years in the Spanish Ministry, he returned to WWW to track the finances. His father was training James Potter to run the Hogsmeade store, something Fred was grateful for.

Rose Weasley followed her mother?s academic example. She mastered all her subjects, especially Transfiguration. After graduating from Hogwarts, she became a Healer. She specialized in spell damage cases. She eventually married a wizard from Australia. She met him while visiting the country with her maternal grandparents. The two live in England.

Why: I absolutely love the idea of Ravenclaw as Taco Bell. It seems to fit their house perfectly. I could just picture Loona Lovegood behind a cash register or taking drive-through orders. :p

Gryffindor Update For Week 3


BOOKS

What one character do you think had the most influence on Harry?s life (and yes, you have to pick just one). 20 points.

I believe Lord Voldemort had the most influence on Harry's life. This may sound strange, but I believe Harry was determined to be nothing like Voldemort. Harry in many ways could have wanted to prove that just because he grew up in the similar unloving environment to Voldemort, it was not going to turn him into the monster his adversary became.
Voldemort also defined the first 17 years of Harry's life, by unintentionally marking him as his equal. Although Harry didn't know of Voldemort's existence until he turned 11, Voldemort or events related to the Dark Lord's eventual return would hound him throughout his years at Hogwarts until the end of the Second Wizarding war.

Favorite Tasks from Week 2

From Slytherin:
What other ghosts will Hogwarts acquire? How will they die and why will they haunt Hogwarts? May do up to 3. 10 points.

1. Professor Trelawney will haunt the Divination Tower, her home for many years until her death. She will die when she gives herself a heart-attack after seeing the Grim in her tea-cup. She will haunt Hogwarts because it is her home and she cannot see herself leaving; whenever someone brings up the subject, she will either burst into tears or throw crystal balls at them.

2. Fred Weasley, who died a very violent death in the midst of laughing during the Battle of Hogwarts, will come back as a ghost, simply for the joy of challenging Peeves to a haunting duel. Slowly, he will transform himself into a poltergeist and Hogwarts students will forever be in danger of having chandeliers drop inconveniently on their heads. He will also somehow manage to create the ghost version of the portable swamp. No one will know how he did it, even the other ghosts.

3. Luna Lovegood, who will die a rather fantastical death at a very old age when she decided she wanted to know what falling off the Astronomy Tower felt like, will come back to haunt Hogwarts? halls simply for the reason of seeing what it is like. She is very curious about such thing, as she will happily explain to any student, whether they asked or not. She will also claim to have stayed behind in order to continue her career as a Quidditch commentator.

Who do you think is the best Death Eater and why? 10 points.

Bellatrix Lestrange was the best Death Eater. She followed Voldemort obsessively, believing he could do no wrong. She didn?t question his decisions or beliefs. This made her the perfect Death Eater. She did exactly what she was told without question. Followers that question cause problems.

I completely agree that Bellatrix is the best Death Eater - in that she was 100 percent willing to be Voldemort's minion. She also came off as the creepiest of the Death Eaters.

I'm having a pretty serious problem. Every time I try to view a thread on the Gryffindor boards, I get a page of jibberish-

My apologies for not contributing anything - work has been a bit crazy lately, what with my manager having to take over another office 400kms away, and leaving me in charge of this one. So... yeah, busy. And sick. Really sorry.

 

They do Small updates I can do easily on a weeknight, but when you guys post larger tasks, it takes me a while to get through them. Me doing them on a Sunday means you guys get points quickly (Though, as I said, as long as you post them before I get to them, Sunday is fine. It's just that I usually mean to do them on Sunday morning )

If it's an issue, I can change that, but I'm busier during the week, so points will take longer.

I have no idea why it did that, but I'm very glad it stopped and everything seems to have remained intact.
