Unlike some of the posters before me, I will try to keep this review short so that people will actually read it. :)

Before buying Remnant I obtained a copy of the Evergence trilogy. The first book started off slowly but gained sufficient momentum near the end to keep me reading. The second book, however, is still lying next to my bed half-finished. At this moment I am not sure whether I will ever finish it.

So, I feared the worst for Remnant. And my fears seemed to come true. In structure Remnant appeared identical to the Evergence books. However, I did finish it.

Though I still wonder why exactly. Was it because of Dix and Williams' writing style? Did the Lucas-people create such a great story? Neither I think. It's Star Wars, that's why. As NJO-fans we want to read everything that comes our way. Even when we have to pay 33 euros for a hardcover and 15 for a softcover (yup yup, convert it and consider yourselves lucky Americans!).

This doesn't mean that the book sucked thoroughly. Like most of the other softcovers, it just wasn't anything extraordinary.

    I give it a 7,5.

PS: I know the above sounds harsh but I mean it in a constructive sense.

Enjoyed the book immensely, just what I'd expect from the super aussie duo. At first I was leery of the chapterless pages, but I soon realized I could just stop at a 'scene change'. This made the novel flow much better.

I'm a dialogue junkie--the one thing I dread is prolonged description. There was a lot more description in this novel than most sci-fi novel's i'm used to (same with evergence and stuff), but I was able to keep reading. In terms of plot, this does seem like act one of three. Which is good...because hopefully things won't be as disjointed as some of the duologies in the NJO.

I enjoyed reading from the supporting character's perspectives--we've had a ton of insight on the Solo Family, let's learn about the other dudes. Tahiri was...interesting...At first I thought the authors gave away too much by letting her narrate parts of the novel. There are some definitely suspicious parts...Tahiri's joke to Threepio is actually Riina's joke to Tahiri, the two week absence is really Riina's manfestation or whatever--then again i've learned from reading SWSD's other books that what's obvious to me is later obviously wrong.

I guess I have some beef with some of the more blatant continuity problems...I mean, the DelRey:New Jedi Order::Shamed Ones:Anakin's story on Yavin 4.

Okay, I'm going to stopp rambling. Nice anagram with Nom Anor's name.

    score: 8.5

the book was horribly written...setting a nice trend the FH trilogy would keep:
