Okay, for more information, go here.

Long story short, we're creating a list of the JC's top 100 books and you're all invited to participate. All your questions should be answered there, but suffice it to say that, yes, EU books are eligible. And how could we even think of making a list of great books with out involving the Lit forum?

    Clicky clicky! It'll be fun!

Can I be the first to nominate a book?
The Mists of Avalon, by Marion Zimmer Bradley. One of my all-time favorites.

Er, people? Posting your nominations in this thread won't accomplish a thing.

What you do is, you go to this thread and follow the directions in the first post.

You can also, you know, post a list just so other people can read it and so the thread stays up for others to read. Just PMing it and not posting in the thread kind of defeats the purpose of the notice. ;)

    My list:

    I. The Æneid - Virgil
II. The Burmese Days - Orwell
III. Fathers and Sons - Turgenev
IV. Crime and Punishment - Doestoyevsky
    V. Peré Goriot - Hugo
VI. Count of Monte Cristo - Dumas
VII. Sense and Sensibility - Austen
VIII. To Kill a Mockingbird - Lee
    IX. I, Claudius - Graves
    X. Great Gatsby - Fitzgerald

The list is slightly different than the list I've PMed, but that's okay.

LOL...still working out mine but my personal Number 1 has to be

George RR Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire Series (even though it's still ongoing and takes sooo long to release one book)...it beats Harry Potter in terms of characterization easily.

    Thank you, thank you. *bow*

Though I have to say that holds true for many of the users who have posted in this thread thus far. These lists are far, far better than the ones I saw in JCC--which shouldn't be surprising--but it's still gratifying to see. After all, science fiction readers aren't often considered to have discriminating tastes--but it seems Litizens are a cut above. That's a good thing.

There were so many books I wanted to add too--ASOIAF, of course. McCollough's magisterial Masters of Rome and a few others.

Oh, you didn't know? I commented on a post you made referring to the book.

But yes, I adore it. I'm sure it doesn't surprise you at all that Paul is my favorite character in that book.
