Whew. That just means that the Eskimoes have a larger number of adjectives for snow than we do. You could apply this same theory to English words derived from a basic root word.

The article that was referenced is written like so much gobbledygook you can't really tell what the author is trying say about the Inuit language other than that their words for snow are based on a few root words for snow that still comes out to a lot of words describing snow.

I know what it is, I've read enough of it. So there was a myth that the Inuits had one hundred different words for snow and I unwittingly perpetuated that myth. However, that article says that the Inuit do have many different words to describe snow that are developed from a few basic root words for snow and it gives a range of 50 to 150.

 

Snow. Snowy. Snowing. Snowstorm...

 

Snowman, Snowball, Snowgoons...

 

No, it's more like 'light fluffy snow" "sleet" "hail," etc.

 

You could write down not just thousands but millions of words built from roots that refer to snow if you had the time.

 

Hail is not snow.

 

Hail is frozen rain that froze too fast to form the six-sided crystalline structure of a snowflake, IIRC.

so Lady_Sami_J_Kenobi has thus far failed to graduate and been oppositional/defiant in the face of treatment. Juliet316 technically graduated by the skin of her teeth but has consistently reoffended in the time since graduation. the passion we feel for these posters is intense. we want them to succeed, but our methodology is clearly failing them. what can we do differently? i ask you, the posters of the jcc to reach out to me or the center's generous benefactor, jp-30, and tell us how we can fulfill our mission statement and help these posters learn to read good and do other things good too

 

Well, this is the only thing I have failed to graduate from, so no biggie!

 

hitler failed to graduate from art school and was like "no biggie". so you can see why we're concerned

 

I earned my BA with a GPA of 3.79. No lie.
