Saga The Last of the Old (Dear Diary Challenge 2010 - Completed 1/2/2011)

Great post, Corellian_Ale! I loved Obi-Wan's memory of trying to negotiate peace between the children of the diplomats and its similarities to his current situation.

Oh, but it's impossible not to snicker especially after Obi-Wan requested the reader not to! Definitely sounds like the little one had Mandalorian blood in her.

And the story is finally coming to an end. Looking forward to seeing how you bring a close to it!

Before realizing how close Vader was, I awoke this morning gripped by fear, sweating as Anakin had done so often leading up to the war. The thoughts of facing him has brought old memories flooding back, many good ? yet overshadowed by all the terrible things that had occurred in the final years of our friendship. The blind eye I had so often turned to the signs that all but shook me to clear my sight that the shroud of the Darkside had clouded.

The death of his mother, and his subsequent slaughter of the Sand People, his explanation of the events on Zonama Sekot, his marriage to Padmé ? rejecting his Jedi Oath. His recollection of Dooku?s death, and just as importantly ? even more so, his vague report of Ahsoka?s demise?

Now, as I make my way across the Jundland Wastes, I

 

all those memories flooding Obi-Wan WOW.

A very touching end to a very enjoyable diary.

Luke is sure to get it - at a good moment, too. R2 can be a nuisnace, but he has tact.

My disaste of the PT showed only too bad in this update. I could not place many of those quotes and those only vaguely.

 

And so our epic tale comes to an end...and a new beginning. Well done, Ale, well done.

 

I found this diary just this evening and have spent the last 90 minutes reading it...such great insight into Obi-Wan's thoughts and realizations while on Tatooine as well as the guilt, emotions and then healing he experienced.

Great job, I really enjoyed this!

 

Wonderful assembly of quotes, Ale. At first glance, the quotes may seem to be assembled somewhat randomly, but looking more carefully, one can see how each quote might lead Obi-Wan to think of the next quote, and the gradual progression to Obi-Wan's conclusion: I have failed you Anakin! I have failed you!

Good to know that R2 will definitely see that Obi-Wan's journal is safely delivered to Luke. And I'm glad that although Obi-Wan was still wrong at times ("Do not make the mistake of believing you can turn your father."), what he wished for--that Luke could bring balance to the Force--was ultimately achieved.

It's been a pleasure reading this diary through the year. All the best for your future stories!

I think that line touched me more than any other one. WOW! Great journal. It may be the Obi-wan fan in me, but I've enjoyed reading this from the beginning.
