It's good but the core needs to be blurred a bit and the glows need to be stronger and spread out more.

There is no tutorial for creating sabers in Final Cut pro but I found a plugin for it:
    CLick.

It renders 4 points for u to choose and then bam.

Keylight is a wonderful plugin for after effects. Its very good for greenscreening.

I must say I'm still a fan of Ryan's old method. It produces the best looking glows with easy to follow steps.

Doesn't look good, you didn't use any transfermodes.
Transfermodes like "Screen" or "Add" make your lightsabers look like actual light; they make them lighting up the background, which is an important factor of lightsabers.
Because if you don't use the right transfermodes and have your lightsaber in front of a light grey tone, there will be no change of the background. Your lightsaber will be completely visible and actually darkening the footage if your saber's color is a darker tone than the light grey.
If you use the transfemodes, your lightsaber's color will be fainter and less visible in front of this background, but the grey will also light up even more, making the saber look like true light.

Check out Ryan W.'s videotutorial for Photoshop in the tutorial section, you'll be able to do about the same things with GIMP, too.

However, I'm curious on where you found that Mace/Palpatine-picture in front of the bluescreen. I'd like to try it on my own.

    [image=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v483/monkeyheadstudios/compare2.jpg]

    I also made this:

By the way you don't have to only post about lightsabers too.

SithMan, CloudofSulfur, you both didn't use transfermodes, again. Transfer modes are important, if you don't use them, your sabers will look faked - and so they do.
Stick closer to Ryan's method, especially the part with the transfermodes.

I'm not a big fan of the gimp, the sabers you can get using it looks to... bad.

You guys should download the demos to Adobe After Effects or photoshop.

Personally GIMP's lightsaber glows look too contained.

From CloudofSulfur pictures. It looks like the glows are to thick. By that I mean you can't see through them like you should and on the purple lightsaber glow it looks bumpy.
