This is a lite (fanfic only) version of the program I use to find JC threads. It only works for thread titles and the users who started the threads (i.e., it's no replacement for the search function) but it should be helpful for people putting together indexes and/or looking for certain threads.

    http://f59.aaa.livedoor.jp/~lazykbys/jcfanficthreads.php

    [image=http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y53/lazykbys/jcfanficthreads.jpg]

    (1) forum

The JC fanfic forum you're searching in.

    (2) sort by

The order in which the threads are displayed. The default shows the newer threads on top.

first post: The reverse of the default. Older threads on top, new ones at the bottom.

user: Sorts by the names of the user who started the threads in alphabetical order. Numbers and other symbols first.

title: Sorts by thread titles in alphabetical order. Numbers and other symbols are ignored.

    (3) all users

When selected, this limits the threads to those started by a specific user.

    (4) or / and

or: thread titles that contain any of the keywords

and: thread titles that contain all of the keywords

    The default is "or".

    (5) search keywords

The words (or parts of words) that you're searching for. When searching for more than one keyword, you need to separate them with a comma.

Keywords should be in lowercase unless you're doing whole-word matches. That is, a search for "au" will get you titles that include "AU", "AUs", "author", "daughter", etc. If you want titles with just "AU", the keyword should be at least partially in uppercase (i.e., "Au", "aU", or "AU").

NOTE: It's better to avoid using symbols and special letters because half the time they won't work. E.g., searching for "Padmé" is a waste of time. Try "padm" instead.

    (6) teh numbers

The number of threads found / total number of threads.

    (7) search

Surely this needs no explanation. :D

    (8) user names

The users who started the threads.

    (9) threads

    Links to the JC threads.

The list of threads is usually updated once a week. It's all done automatically (that is, I click on a bookmark and ten minutes later, voila!) so please don't PM me to add a thread to the list unless it's really old or it keeps getting missed in updates.

However, if you find any links to threads that have been deleted from the boards, please let me know.

Oooooh! We're not worthy! We're not worthy!

I KNEW you had to have a program!

That's the SMART way to do it. :)

In some ways, the Link Machine works better than the forum search. If I only wish to look for the names of people who begin threads, your search does that.

I have not found a way to use the forum search function so that it will only bring up links to posts that begin new threads. If I am searching all messages for a user who has left many, many messages, I have had the forum search time out before it gives me a result.

Strangely enough, when I tried to search for THIS thread, it didn't show up. I guess it will show up next week. :) I assume that the Link Machine refreshes the 'users' menu list, too?

Oh, I know! "Lazy" means making the machine do the the work for you! That's what computers are for. Alas, my programming skills are technical, not web based, otherwise I would have tried something like that myself, plus automatic post and word counts for threads, keyword content searches, post frequency, start and lock dates.... all kinds of good stuff. But if I got that far down into php programming, then I wouldn't have any time for writing fanfics!

I may have to get the basics down of Java for work, but that's still not php, but that's as close as I'll be able to get to it.
