I guess LFL forgot the eye patch when they sent Jay his costume for that shot. ;)

Great pic, Sey! Is that RMFF?

Yes it is. I'm in the X-wing pilot outfit in the front to the right of the lifesize remote controlled functioning R2D2. :D

Grimby is in the back left, but you really can't see what he's wearing so it would be tough to point out.

Yikes, you really haven't been to a sci-fi/comic book convention, have you? [face_laugh]

In all fairness, geekdom expresses itself in many ways. Some do costumes - one of my closest friends, who is about 30 and a handsome fellow, loves to go to anime conventions in costume. His favorite character? Link, although he's been dressing as Ganondorf(sp?), the Zelda villian.
I've never caught the costume bug, so my geekdom manifests itself in faux-academia, maintaining various incomprehensible databases on Star Wars and a number of other personal favorite stuff of mine. Generally harmless although ranting in public about how the poster maps of Middle Earth they sell are always wrong does turn some heads.
Frankly it's an experience and the larger the better. In the few cons I've done, I've gotten to meet various cool people (Gary Gygax and Warren Ellis especially), see some interesting performances (such as a live radio production of an HP Lovecraft story with Harlan Ellison), see interesting bands, and attend seminars.
That isn't to say some cliches about cons aren't true. Body odor problems? Yes indeed. For every well-crafted costume there's a dozen that are mediocre, poorly-made, ill-considered or just plain revolting. (And I won't even get into the Fandom Whose Name I Dare Not Say... 8-} )

My friend Nick went to comic con and told me about the fat girls trying to do sailor moon and slave leia.

I have a Leia costume, and used to have hair long enough to pull it off

    Oh really?

Also, on a totally unrelated subject, John Wayne or Chuck Norris.

I've had the fun of meeting Dave Prowse, Jeremy Bulloch and Daniel Logan plus more at the past three conventions I've attended.

Plus I sell toys so I get to spend the whole day or two at the shows loitering by my table. Lot's of great costumes, lots of not so good ones as well. We had a guy dressed as Joker from Dark Knight at the MBCC this year, costume wasn't great but he was sooooo in character.....he was freaking people out all day long:p

But the highlight for me is always all the behind the scenes stuff you find out about during the panels.:)

MK here with some important news. As part of the new year, we're doing something crazy.

    Closing this thread.

    And starting a new one.

That's right, kids... this is the last day of the old Lit Forum Social Thread. Enjoy it while it lasts. Something new is coming. [As a side note, we'll take name suggestions for the new one here until that time comes. But tomorrow morning... locked and a new one started. DUN DUN DUN!]

Well, then, I might as well say to read the Vector arc unspoiled would require me to leave the forum, for a time unknown. I know some ding bat dolt will talk freely outside the exclusion zones, as some ding bat dolt usually does and it's not worth the risk. So drop me a PM if you've got something to say, I dare not view the forum pages. Happy new year to all and goodbye .... for now!
