    Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
    mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
    mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
    mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmyes and no.

Originally, Ian Dury recorded it (he wrote it) in the -- 70s, I believe. But McCartney covered it recently for a tribute album. Naturally, I like his version better.

(Ian Dury sang "Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick", if you remember).

That's what we talked about the other day -- there's a lot of good stuff that's just been hidden.

And what do we get? Whitney "Snort, Hiccup!" Houston.

I remember that! Actually I remember it well because there was a show here that used to get famous songs like that and get people with similar names to cover them.

    The running joke was

"Okay, and tonight we're closing the show with ... Ian Dury!"

    "Oh."

    "What do you mean, 'oh'"

"Well I thought you said 'Brian Bury'" (famous weatherman down here).

"Okay then...to close the show... Brian Bury and 'Hit me with your rhythm stick.'"

So this running joke would happen every week and lots of Aussie celebs would be conned into doing covers of songs.

Trust me, it was really funny.

    ;)

    Hee hee, okay. :D

    These are the lyrics:

    I'm partial to your abracadabra
I'm raptured by the joy of it all
So stop me where you start
    The cockles of his heart
The panties sends it right up the wall

Please, please, stop it, it likes it
Tickles it to death either way
    These lovely boots exist
To drive it round the twist
The call of nature must be obeyed

Glad it's over, but this is worse
Could hardly say it had been coerced
Stop it cos it likes it, it's worse

    I'm partial to your abracadabra
    The unforeseen erogenous zones
    Stop, it insists
    Slap it with your wrists
It likes it when you leave it alone

    There's been a manifestation
Nature made it answer the call
    It simply can't resist
    Boots and pants like this
    Abracadabra for all

Glad that's over, but this is worse
    Roll it over, too perverse
Stop it cos it likes it, it's worse

    I'm partial to your abracadabra
    I'm partial to your abracadabra
    I'm partial to your abracadabra
    I'm partial to your abracadabra
    I'm partial to your abracadabra
    I'm partial to your abracadabra
    I'm partial to your abracadabra
    I'm partial to your abracadabra

    I just love that song!

Oh I know, popular music is so terrible. The fuuny thing I tend to romanticize the popular music of the pat and say things like music "was so much better back then". But we tend to forget about things like disco. Popular music always has a lot of crap mixed in, it just seems like now it's all crap.

EDIT: and once again I'm 3 steps behind ;)

My brother had a shirt with "Disco Sucks" when he was 5 or 6, and my parents didn't know what it meant.

    Fabulous.

I have one of those. I actually use it whenever I throw a party. Acres of fun!

Now those things are fun, without the disco of course. :D

That reminds me of a Mr. Show skit, "Rap the Musical"... Rap the Musical features absolutely no rap music! All the fun of rap, without all that rap!

Hey if either of you are interested in sport, may I direct your attention to the final medal tally at the Commonwealth Games.

If Ian Thorpe and Petria Thomas (both swimmers) were their own country, they'd be 8th and 11th on the medal tally respectively and Australia would still be first.

    :)

I know absolutely nothing about olympic type sports.

Here's the whole "Rap the Musical" sketch. It's not as funny as seeing it but still funny nonetheless...

    Rap: The Musical

Tom V.O.: Coming to the Greenwich Civic Center from London's West End, Sir Lloyd Wilson Webber's Rap the Musical!

David: (dressed in a red and white striped jacket and straw hat with a cane) Just gimme that big booming bass in your face, that booming bass.
Gimme that stupid phat rhyme everytime, describe a crime.

Tom V.O.: Rap the musical contains no rap music!

Tom: (dressed as a chimney sweep a la Dick Van Dyke) I'm goin on a drive-by, just me posse and me.
I'm a gangsta of the old school, you can call me O-G.

Tom V.O.: Rap the musical is a celebration for the entire family.

Mary Lynn: (in a wheel chair dressed as a little girl) I'm in a gang of one,
Stuck in this chair I cant have much fun,
But with a mic and a beat I could get out of this seat and then oh what rap music can be!
I could rap about this I could rap about that....

Tom V.O.: Rap the musical- the fun of rap without all that rap!

Bob: (in a gold tooth costume, tap dancing) Well I'm an old gold tooth, and I'll tell ya the truth, I live in the mouth of my homey, (points to tapping feet) lets take it south.

Tom V.O.: Don't miss rap the musical. You'll want to experience the magic again and again. Open up your heart and let the rap shine in!
And now back to the Homage Awards

Yeah, all the girls were going crazy over him! I'm more of an Alex Popov girl myself.

Alex Popov -- the dark and brooding guy, right?

Jason from "Battle of the Planets" sure made an impact. ;)

    Mmm yeah. ;)

I went out with a guy like that once - his name was Sacha, but he looked like he was going to kill himself every time I saw him, so we never really got anywhere. ;)

    [face_laugh]

    I hate really optimistic girls.

    Do you like your job?

    "Yes!"

    Do you like your colleagues?

    "Yes! Absolutely!"

    Do you like it here?"

    "I love it!"

Maybe I'm peculiar, but it has the opposite effect on my mood. I can be quite nasty then.

Interesting... if you do an image search for "overly optimistic" you get a bunch of charts and graphs and what not, and this lady...
