OOG: Another map, if interested. Far shinier, but with less stuff.

There are no real distinctions between the various units for the particular sides, are there? Such as a difference between orc infantry, human infantry, hobbits, elves, dwarves, goblins, etc? Though that's probably far more complicated than needed. No fellowship, ringwraiths or battle over the ring, right?

No Barad-dur (accents needed)? Seems a bit of an oversight to forget Mordor itself, but I guess that's a balancing act.

Also: Units to consider- Ents, Beornings, Hurons, Eagles, goblins(may or may not be identical to Orcs, seem that way from the Hobbit, though the movies depict goblins as a smaller race, orc:elf::goblin:hobbit), various creatures such as spiders or wargs, maybe elite/unique units depending on region (such as Rohirrim, Uruk-hai, Grond, trebuchets, Umbar Corsairs, Olog-Hai, Wainriders, Variags, Dunedain Rangers maybe some upgraded gondor infantry, dwarven infantry, elven archers etc. Don't know what the hobbits fight with.)

Correct. Unless otherwise stated in the Rankings.

Mordor was left out for a reason. ;)

Well, I have already covered some of those units. The Rohirrim is another name for Rohan's Calvary, I have covered Uruk-Hai, Umbar has cosairs, Dunedain Rangers are covered, Elven archers are covered. Also remember, if you don't have access to a specific unit that you would like to purchase, then contact someone that has access to that unit.

Rohan

The soldiers stood there in the early morning. Their banners, bearing a prancing white horse on a green field snapped in the wind. The sunlight, partially obscured by cloud cover, glinted off their worn armor. They stood in the field outside Edoras, waiting. Théoden reviewed his men with pride. They were the very finest that Rohan could offer, and contained the best cavalry in the known world. Soon they would be moving into foreign lands to fight and die for him. Théoden glanced around, looking for the general of his army, Théodred. He caught his eye. His son nodded and stepped forward to address the troops.

?I, Théodred, have been appointed by King Théoden to the position of Marshal. I will be commanding our forces for the present. Today we will be moving out to Dunland, to fight our first battle. So let us march!?

The speech was short and brief. It did not try to inspire the soldiers or raise their spirits, but it had that effect nonetheless. The army knew Théodred as a capable general and mighty warrior. They honored their commander and trusted him to lead them to victory, as he had done so many times in the past. As one, they drew their swords and chanted, ?Théodred! Théodred! Théodred!? before turning and riding away towards Dunland.

IC: Saruman the White, Orthanc Tower

Saruman the White, a wizard who once fought along side man, but now through the Ithil-stone had become corrupted by a most ancient dark power. Saruman the White was now acting under this mysterious influence and had been building a army in secret for some time, until now, today Saruman would send the Uruk-Hai from the Tower to take Fangorn Forest, its supplies would be needed in the months to come and its close proximity made it an obvious target. The old wizard looked up from a map that lay on the desk before him, a map of Rohan, but now was not the time yet to act.

"Welcome my General," Saruman said to a large Uruk-Hai who had just entered the room, Gaal was his name. He was adorned in black leather armor that creaked slightly as he walked, at his hip was a ruthless Uruk-Hai sword, and on his back a bow and shield. Of all the Uruk-Hai in his forces, this was the most gifted in all regards, it was gifted with massive strength, and its above average intelligence made it a natural leader. Saruman continued, "Take the Warg riders and the Uruk-Hai to Fangorn, secure the forest but do not venture far into its treeline, there are ancient and powerful creatures residing there."

The Uruk-Hai pounded his chest once, "At once my Lord." Then Gaal turned on his heel and left his Master to his work. The General of Isengard quickly made his way down the stairs of the great tower, below he could hear the sounds of industry as it crafted weapons of war, long had they prepared and now they would strike. Finally Gaal arrived at the courtyard of the great tower, and before him stood assembled a mighty force of 2000 Uruk_Hai and 1000 Warg Riders, nearby a soldier stood holding the riegns of the General's Warg. General Gaal took the riegns and hopped on his mounts back, he looked over his forces and raised his sword, "We march to Fangorn!", and with a kick to his Warg the forces of Isengard began riding forth from its gates.

From a balcony near the top of the tower Saruman some time later looked down upon the great line of troops leading toward Fangorn, soon it would be his to use, then his army would grow in size, soon even Rohan would be unable to stop the spread of his power. With a sneer of contempt for King Theoden he turned and walked into his private chambers, there stood upon a stone pilar the Ithil-stone, a great artifact that could show him many mysteries. He walked ever nearer to it, the insides swirled and writhed as if it was alive, Saruman had even considered that its power was derived from a living entity traped within, sometimes he thought he could feel the presense of another when he used it.

Others warned against its use, but everytime he had used it thus far he had been given visions of the future. Now he would att

Nargoth the Destructive stood before his stone table, surrounded by his generals. The fear was visable in their eyes. It was time for the conquest to begin. Each general before Nargoth knew that failure on any mission meant immediate death. Nargoth was not one to be messed with. He had fought his was to the top, and faught to stay there. He turned to his number one general, Twisthate. The two had been through a lot together, and Nargoth knew he could trust him. (As much as an orc could be trusted)

"The time has come, lead your army to Dunland. Take no prisoners."

The general left the conferance room with a brisk pace, his spiked armour cackeling with every step. He knew, this was the single most important mission of his life. If he were to fail, he would be better off not returning...

IC: The Lord of the Nazgul
Location: The Bastion of Carn Dum

The Lord of the Nazgul stood at the summit of his tower, gazing out over the snowy expanse of Angmar. His gaze fell to the South, towards the lands of Arnor. The Witch King could feel it.... he could feel it in his undead soul. The time was now. All throughout Middle Earth, the factions were stirring. He knew that he could not afford to wait. That miserable Ice Lord was no doubt ready to gobble up the lands that rightfully should go to Angmar. And he could feel.... his Master was concerned. At the peak of the World, the movements of the forces of Gondor or Rhun seemed like distant spectres, dealing in a plane separate to Angmar's.

But of course, the strategic side of the Nazgul knew that this was not the case. Though he may not be in a position to affect anything that happened there, all fates in Middle Earth were connected to eachother in the end.

The Witch King looked up to the Grey clouded sky, the snowflakes falling gently from it. It was everwinter here in Angmar, the way the Witch King liked it. The men of the North were hearty, which would serve them well in battle. The Nazgul looked down at his armored fist. His.... independence..... was something he was slowly getting used to. He yearned for the ring less and less. It was a gift from the Dark Lord. He was well aware that his freedom was at the expense of the rest of the Nine. They yearned for it even more. At some level, he supposed he was thankful for that.

At some level....

The Witch King could feel a Wight drifting up the stairs of the Citadel. It was Malichi, the latest of the wights that had drifted into Angmar, drawn to the Nazgul's dark power. Such beasts were useful, and the Witch King enjoyed their presence.

The Wight, now at the top level, hissed something in communication to the Black Captain.

"You desire something my Lord?" the ghostly robed figure gasped

The Witch King turned to look at the whiteish Wight. A close cousin to wraiths, wights had a way of sensing what others desired. And with the Ringwraith's presence, it probably wasn't to hard.

"You are to lead one thousand horsemen towards our borders at the Northern Downs. Encamp the Calvary at our boarders, but do not have them cross the national lines. You yourself are to move as a spy into the Downs, to discover what forces await us there. Do not engage any troops, and send a rider to Gundabad with the information."

"Guuuundabad my Lord?" Malichi inquired.

"Yes. I plan to move out with 500 men to redezvous with the Orcs there." the Witch King said, moving to descend the stairs down his tower. The Wight followed him, as the servant he was.

"With an alliance with the Northern Orcs, we shall have the infrastructure needed to start building an invasionary force for Arnor." the Lord of the Nazgul said, the lights of the stairs extinguishing as the Ringwraith passed them. Wherever the Ringwraith passed, darkness followed. "With the completion of our barracks, this will do nothing but to make us even more powerful. A Kingdom of Darkness shall reign in the bitter North."

After a few minutes, the duo walked out of the tower and towards the military encampments. The cold streets of the fortress town were iced over with frost, the evil men that inhabited it staying inside and warm. That would soon change. The Witch King, stoping at the outskirts of the city, turned to look at the Wight.

"Happy Hunting." the Wraith said finally, tilting his head to the Wight. "I shall await your Rider. Do not fail me."

"I shall not my Lord. And good luck with the Orcs of Gundabad." Malichi whispered. "We shall meet in good time."

The two entities turned off and went towards their respective forces. There was work to do...

Théodred reined in his horse and held up a gloved hand. Behind him, the column slowly halted. They were on the border of Dunland, and Théodred wanted to make sure that the army was more cautious. He leaned over to his second-in-command, Éothain. ?Make sure our scouts are careful now that we are in enemy territory. And watch for ambushes from the rear or sides.? Éothain nodded. ?It will be done.? He rode off down along the column. Théodred let his horse continue forward, into Dunland.

The City of Corsairs

A chill wind hissed around the great docks of Umbar. On the main bridge, King Vladimor I surveyed the forces he had at his disposal. He was not impressed. The grand armies of lore and song quite simply were not available to him. Yet.
His father had always told him to play to his strengths, and for much of his life he had, immersing himself in poetry and scholarly pursuits, excelling in these chosen areas. And then he had found himself here, suddenly, standing on a winter?s morning with his subjects, gazing over the military resources of his nation, and wondering how he could ever shape them into a force to be reckoned with. And so he would play to Umbar?s strengths.

Before his very eyes, a glorious shipyard was being constructed. One day soon he would sail with a fleet from these very waters, and then?who knew? The rest of Middle Earth lay in wait for his arrival.

Rastev moved with the grace inherint in all his race as he made his way to Galadrials ampartments. She had asked to see him there rather in the more formal setting of the audiance chamber. It also hinted toward a clandestine discussion. He set the great Lorien long bow downout side of the door before knocking. He did not usually carry his bow with him but the message had come to him while he was reviewing some new archers and had not taken the time to return to his own chambers to drop it off.
"Come" Galadrials calm voice said from the other side of the door. Rastev opened it and stepped into a simple living area. The couches were elegantly carved out of a variaty of woods. Most notibly mahogony, its dark color contrasting beautifully with the white of the great trees that the Elves lived in and among.
As was her way Galadrial did not waste time with unimpotant talk. Due to the length of their lives most elves tended to be sticklers for formality and tradition. It was a sign of her skill as a leader to know when to set such things aside.
"Rastev I have seen how we, the elves, are set up. Militarily, I mean. You have done a fine job in maintaining our Home Guard, but I see the forces of darkness gathering strength. We must be prepared to defend ourselves and the whole of Middle Earth if nessisary. I want you to begin to build up our military strength if you must, to avoid the political quiestions do it clandistinly but it must be done." She turned to the window and took the few steps needed to bring her next to it. " I have send messengers to Rivendell, to my son, but he has not responded. I would like you to take however many troops with you as you deem nessisary and make contact with Rivendell."
Rastev nodded, Militarly it would do well for it would catch the filth of Moria between the two elven cities. though we should also look to the west, to Mirk wood. the Misty Mountains are a natural wall against those to the east and Fangorn hampers those to the south The Forest of Mirk Wood would give us a buffer against the forces of the west and to a degree to those of the the North as well."
"As ever Rastev your wisdom rings true, move your troops when you are ready." With a short bow she turned and moved deeper into her apartments. Rastev knew he had been dismissed and made his way back out picking up his bow as he did.

Gondor, Minas Tirith

Looking about his hall, he was overwhelmed by the size of it and the power which held as King. Turning to one of his servants he said, ?Gather my military advisors. Please make it fast my friend the forces of Middle-Earth are moving, Gondor must not be left defenseless.? With that the man ran off.

After awhile the man returned with the royal advisors which Aragorn requested, dismissing the servant he turned towards his advisors. ?My friends as most of you know the forces of Middle-Earth are moving be it friends or foes alike. We need to be ready for any attack, I would like for you to take one messenger to Fornost under the banner of Gondor and truce. If allowed to enter the city meet with the highest ranking leader be it military or King. Ask him if he would like to join with the Kingdom of Gondor in our fight against the forces of darkness. Promise him that if he joins with us he will share the plunders of our victories like any solider of Gondor would. Also tell him of the great Kingdom of Gondor and that if he joined with us that our two fine kingdoms would be the greatest of all. After telling him that I would like for the messenger to promise to him that if he joins with us a Gondorian division will make it?s way to their lands and defend them with help of their own military. Finally tell him that I, to, am a ranger and know those lands very well and would like to see them join with the greatest kingdom of men in their fight for the free peoples of Middle-Earth. Oh and give him this small gift and say its from Gondor.?

After telling one of his advisors to go and carry out the order the turned back towards the rest. ?Since most likely we will be involved in most conflicts we need to prepare for sustained conflict, so we need to build our armies up. I purpose that we send half of our horsemen to the borders to defend them against any possible attack. Also we should be looking to form military alliances with our friends in Rohan with their support we can defeat the forces of darkness. I think we should first wait and build our troops and defenses up while sending riders out to surrounding lands in order to form pacts if you will. I will call for another meeting when the rider gets back with the news. I thank you for your time. Dismissed.? With that he turned and walked back towards his throne and thought about the coming war and started forming plans of attacks.

IC: Wild Men of Dunland

A Dunland scout sat upon his horse on top of a hill. In the distance he saw an approaching army from Rohan. For many years, the men of Dunland had been looking for a reason to attack Rohan, and now the time was here. The scout rode back to the village of Dinlin where he was stationed. After informing his commanders, every man capable of bearing arms rode out from the village.

With the Rohan army still in the distance, the thousands of Wild Men split into two groups moved into the hills above the approaching Rohan army. Just as the Rohan army was nearing Dinlin, the Wild Men poured over the hills into the midst of the marching Rohan. The attack was lead by several hundred calvary and was followed by several thousand infantry. Several hundred of Dunland's finest archers reamined on top of the hills and began raining arrows down upon the Rohan.

Dunland

As Théoden reviewed his new soldiers, he asked himself for the thousandth time why he needed more men. Grima Wormtongue, as if sensing his thoughts, stepped up to him. ?Sire, of course we need more soldiers. The campaign among the Dunlendings will not be the end of our military activities. There are other evils in this world and threats from our former allies.? Théoden rubbed his head. It had all seemed so much simpler when he sent his troops off before. They would fight a war against their ancestral enemies, the Dunlendings. But now? He turned to Grima again. ?So what will we do with more men?? ?We will send them with Éomer on the morrow.? Théoden nodded.

?Attack! We?re under attack!?

Théodred looked over his shoulder. Enemies were pouring down from the hills to hit the middle of the Rohan column. Théodred cursed his stupidity and quickly assessed the situation. The army of Rohan had been taken by surprise and was disorganized. They needed to regroup and strike back. The archers were vulnerable in their current position, as were the infantry to a lesser extent. Théodred turned to his second-in-command, Éothain. ?Rally the infantry and archers. I want them situated on top of one of those hills. They must have the high ground. The foot soldiers will form a protective ring around the archers. I want the archers working to kill the enemy bowmen.? Éothain nodded to show he had understood and rode off as fast as he could.

Théodred turned to the mounted soldiers around him. ?Follow my lead.? He spurred his horse into the battle, shouting ?To me, Riders of the Mark! To me!? at the top of his lungs with his men following behind.

IC: The Lord of the Nazgul
Location: The Base of Mt. Gundabad

It was still snowing as the Lord of the Nazgul rode his way South-West along the Carn Vale. His five hundred men trudged along behind the Nazgul's Black Stallion, their marching keeping them warm as the mountains slowly closed in around them. Ahead, now dominating the troops' visions was Gundabad, an extremely strategic mountain for these Northern Lands. Though most didn't know it, the seemingly impenitrable Gundabad was a secretly one of the most massive Orcholds in the land, holding a veritable flood of Northern Orcs under its stoney exterior. If one could ally with the Orcs there, that person would be in possession of one of the major passes underneath the Misties.

Which is one of the major reasons Gundabad was important to the Dark Captain. As his troops neared the foothills of the looming stoney crag, the Witch King spied Twelve Northern Orcs, ornately dressed and mounted on seemingly ceremonial wargs. They stood alone, yet the Witch King no doubt knew their armies waited just out of sight. How clever they were to see his armies appearance. It made the Ringwraith pleased to see they watched their Western Boarders, that they were not complacent with Angmar's rise to power.

The Witch King raised his hand to still his armies, then spurred his Stallion forward to parlay with the Orc Chieftans. As the Witch King's horse clopped along, he noticed the steep walls of the valley. This would be a very good place to lure enemies into a slaughter. Finally the two parties met. The Nazgul felt for the fear of his foes. The Orc Captain was hiding it. Trying to supress this feelings. Had the Witch King a mouth, it would have smiled cruelly.

"Greetings, Lord of Angmar," the Orc Captain Nargold began, trying to hold back his fear, "what is your business with the Orcs of Mt. Gundabad?"

The Witch King at first did not answer. He merely turned the eternal darkness that was his gaze towards the Orc Chieftan, purposely building up suspense. At last, he spoke...

"Chieftans of Gundabad. I come here to offer you admission into the Nation of Angmar. The Forces of Light are on the move. Gondor and Rohan are on the move, with their forces moving North to crush both of us. And in your righteous territory, in Framsburg and the Anduin vale, human men littering it. They will not rest at Framsburg.... no, they are never satisfied with what they have. The Men of the North will continuously march upwards, until they issue a mighty raid of Gundabad. As a member state of Angmar, we will not less that happen. My mannish armies will fortify Gundabad, and with my ghoulish wights, we can reclaim the lands of the North in the name of Darkness. Join me. Join the Army of Angmar, and you will have much manflesh on which to feast, and much destruction by which to disperse. You Northern Orcs will form the backbone of my army, the true might of Angmar. You will be known and feared throughout Middle Earth."

The Ringwraith stopped, sweeping his gaze accross all 12 Orc Chieftans slowly and painfully...

"Will you join me?"

IC: General Gaal, Outside Fangorn Forest

The small army had reached Fangorn earlier in the day and come to a halt just outside its massive trees, Saruman had warned him enough about the ancient things that dwelled within, so he had decided that the army would not enter the forest at all. Instead he had ordered a legion of Uruk-Hai and a squad of Warg Riders to secure the perimeter and begin harvesting resources, as the forest was in sight of Isengard and held no standing army there should be no need to leave a larger amount of troops to defend and secure it.

The General left final orders with the Captain in charge of the Fangorn Division, then rode his Warg to the main body of his army, a full 1500 Uruk-Hai and 800 Warg Riders stood at the ready. He had recieved new orders from Saruman's messanger, Helm's Deep the ancient bastion of Rohan stood unprotected, and if Isengard could control both ends of of the Gap of Rohan it could also control much of the traffic between the east and the west of the Misty Mountains and lay heavy taxes down on all who travelled through it.

There was a great opportunity for Isengard to solidify its dominance over the area, and with the armies of Rohan on the march in Dunland there would be nothing to stand in General Gaal's path to Helm's Deep.

Of course her own chair was placed at the end of the hall in the tradition of men. She was hearing some disputes that day, not that the disputes would be solved that same day but she was at least beginning the process. She was listening as on of the engineers was trying to convince her that his method of building into the trees would bee better than his fellows method of building around them when her chamberlain walked swiftly up to her and bent to whisper in her ear. The first sign that something was wrong was that her chamberlain never walked swiftly.

The messenger was one of Rastev?s scouts and he looked tired. He had run far. He bowed reverently and then stood. ?My Lady the Forces of Isenguard are despoiling the forest of Fangorn!? His voice was filled with a mix of sorrow and anger, righteous anger.
?In what numbers and how?? The Galadrieal asked.
?One Urik Legion and one warg squad, my Lady, a total of 700 troops.?
?We are ill prepared for such an endeavor but we cannot allow the greatness of Fangorn to be spoiled.? With that she turned and retreated to her rooms were the Lady of Lothorien began doning armor for the first time in many, many years.

Almost 2500 elves made quite a sight he hoped it would be a sight to keep the forces of Moria at bay. He knew that they had numerous secret doors out of the mountains. Thankfully the elves rarely need to rest and so could pass through the mountains without out stopping. Still he wished it were possible for those under his command to go a little faster.
