    IC: Saruman, Isengard

The aged wizard of Isengard watched with a maniacal grin upon his face, the Elves at last have begun to leave Fangorn, he was tempted to order his army to crush the inferior force but there were other prizes to be gained. The Forest now belonged to Isengard, and its resources would be put to good use indeed. Though, the Ents would still be a concern, for now anyway he would command the army to remain there.

As for his General, he and the Warg Riders would be sent to Dunland. His spying had discovered that the army that once defended Dunland had now moved far north to Bree, it would not take much to persuade the people of Dunland that their best interest lay in an alliance with Isengard. Through magical means Saruman sent the orders, and soon the forces of Isengard were shifting once again.

    IC: Commander Dantrag, Enedwaith

Commander Dantrag oversaw the Legion of the Tower as they marched into the northern lands of Enedwaith, they had crossed the southern border into the land a day ago and marched straight to the River Greyflood on the northern border. There they would set about burning and destroying all passes and ferry landings along the northern riverbanks of Enedwaith and Dunland save one, the largest and easiest to defend. In this manner Isengard would cut off passage of any force from the nations in the north, namely Rohan's force.

With their crossing and march to Bree they had left Dunland unguarded, and if all routes south were destroyed or heavily guarded, they would be stranded in the northern lands. Saruman had sent these orders, and already Commander Dantrag saw the benefit to Isengard, with control of the river passings defending both Enedwaith and Dunland would be much easier.

IC: General Gaal, with Warg Wing enroute to Dunland

The Warg wing was making good time toward Dunland and he expected to arrive on the morrow, and by the end of the day Dunland would be his. Their intent was not to set upon yet another attack of the people there, it was to ride through the land and pass the word of their liberation and that the army of Rohan was gone. The Warg would continue to ride on a northern route and meet with the Legion of the Tower, if all went as expected all the river passes should be under control of Isengard upon his arrival.

OOC: Sorry I've been away, I missed Monday's payday, so that's included in this update. And BTW, cheers to joesha for the help in this battle!

    Battle of the Shire

King Vladimor rested against one of the golden trees, taking a moment to admire its beauty, the swirling patterns on its bark, the soft grass beneath his feet, the sun shining through the leaves above-

But no time for such distractions now. One of his scouts had warned him that the halflings might prove more of a match than had at first been expected. At least two thousand of them had taken up arms to defend their lands as infantry, with a further five hundred working as archers against the invaders. This was his first taste of battle, and the hobbits might well put up a braver defense than he had anticipated.

?We have waited long enough,? he told his men, unsheathing his own sword. ?We move forwards at once. Blackguards are to engage the Hobbit infantry at once. They have superiority in numbers, but we have the advantage in skill. Aim low with your attacks to decapitate them, and surround them when possible. Scarskin archers- you are to try and pin down the enemy infantry, fire at them from behind while they are otherwise engaged. Finally, cavalry?as soon as the hobbit infantry is committed, you will be free to charge upon their archers. Horses always mow down archers with ease, I fully expect this time to be no different, understood??

    He lifted his sword.

    ?Then,? he screamed, ?to war!?

He sprinted towards the fight with his men, watching as they met pitchforks and scythes with the steel of war. As the first blood was spilt, a call reached him from one of his messengers.

?Sir! Help has arrived from Rhun!?

Vladimor merely smiled. In his mind, he was already composing a song to celebrate victory.

Éomer put his hand to his head. What a stroke of foul luck had befallen Rohan. He looked up. ?You are sure? There are forces from Isengard moving in to Dunland? There are forces destroying the major bridge passages?? ?Yes, sir.? Éomer was silent for a moment, then he looked up. ?Rider, get a fresh mount. You have done well in bringing me this information. Go to the Ents in Fangorn. We must inform them of this threat. You,? He pointed at a second man. ?will find our forces in the North and inform them of this threat. Tell them to move south.? Éomer got the attention of three more Riders. ?You will all go and find Gandalf. Tell him of the treachery of Isengard. Tell him that Rohan begs him to come and aid us. He, and he alone, can stop Saruman. I am also issuing a Call to Arms. The new troops will come and gather in Rohan.? He paused for a moment. ?What! You?re still here? Get moving!?

IC: General Gaal, In Dunland riding north

As the force entered Dunland the General sent riders to the nearby towns they passed notifying the citizens that Isengard had come to save them from the tyranny of Rohan and ask that they ally themselves under the banner of Isengard, as they rode north they would continue to pass this news to the people of Dunland. At this pace he expected to arrive on the northern border in one day, there they would patrol the borders and ensure that Rohan is unable to cross to take back Dunland.

    IC: Battle of the Shire

A horn blown by a Hobbit, signaled a charge. The full force of two-thousand Hobbits charged foward to meet the superior forces of Umbar and Rhun. They knew that they had little hope for victory, but they also knew that had to at least give the women and children time to flee Hobbiton. Arrows rained down on the armies of Umbar and Rhun just before the Hobbit infantry clashed into their lines. Being small gave the Hobbits a type of advantage, they were harder to hit. But there stature also gave them a disadvantage, as they were not strong. The fray caused by the Hobbit charge slowed and even prevented the forces attempting to flank them.

Treebeard paused and listened. "Saruman has moved an army into the forest and has laid claim to it?" he said redundently. "I must go see this for myself."

"What about Dunland?" the Rohan scout asked.

"The Ents cannot interfere with matters that are not ours," Treebeard answered. He turned and began walking to the location of the Isengard force stationed in the midst of the forest. When Treebeard arrived, he was horrified. Hideous creatures that resembled orcs were fortifying themselves and building fires, all using trees.

"What is this treachery!" Treebeard said in a powerful voice.

Théodred grimaced. This problem was irritating in every sense of the word. A main source of revenue was now in the hands of the enemy. Worse, there were hostile forces patrolling the river to prevent a crossing ? except for a single bridge. But Théodred had a plan. He wasn?t going to let Saruman?s forces keep him out of Dunland. His troops would march to the place where this bridge was located. A Rider came up to him. ?Sir, we are ready to move out. Shall I give the order?? General Gaal and his Wing of Warg Riders made their way quickly through Dunland, with no enemy forces there the travel was much easier. With the word of Dunland's liberation spreading the riders of Isengard made their way toward the main host of infantry already stationed at the river border in the north, and as he suspected they had already completed securing the passes.

The General of Isengard's forces made his rounds and ensured that all infantry was posted out of bowshot of the far riverbank, and also ensured that the area was being patroled to ensure no ambush attacks. Now all that was left to do was wait, Rohans troops would have to cross on terms that benefited Isengard, and if they tried Isengard would see to it that Rohan's force was destroyed to the man.

?Sir! We?ve reached the bridge!? Théodred dug his heels into the side of his horse to increase its pace. He brought the creature up to the hill overlooking the bridge and enemy forces. Elements of his cavalry were starting to form up on the hill. Their commander was certainly cautious. His troops were out of bowshot and they had probably scanned the area many times over to prevent ambush attacks. But Théodred had a plan, one that the commander wouldn?t be able to counter. He turned and looked over his shoulder. The infantry and archers were coming up the hill and starting to form up. Théodred looked out again at the opposing forces. Then he turned to the head engineer, who was standing by his catapult. ?The general of Isengard believes that we will fight on his terms. Disabuse him of that notion.? Théodred smirked as the man signaled to the catapult crew. That smirk broadened into a nasty grin as the first stone went sailing toward the enemy lines.

    OOC: No worries. :)

IC: General Gaal, Enedwaith and Dunland northern border

At last the forces of Rohan had come into view, his own force almost doubled that of what opposed him, but he would still give the proper respect and take caution against his enemy. One thing he noted almost immediatly was the trebuchet in tow, a weapon of some power but widely known to have long reload times and they were also not the most agile of weapons, in the time it took to reload and aim for another shot his troops could easily shift out of harms way.

As the army of Rohan prepared its first volley of stone General Gaal gave orders to spread out and fall back to a point just out of range of the trebechet. His next command was to call up a squad of 5 of his fastest riders, "Ride to the bridge and set it to fire, if Rohan wishes to cross we will ensure that there are no means to do so." The rides nodded and spurred their Warg on toward the bride at their fastest pace, each carried a bottle and torch, and as they neared the bridge each threw the bottle and torch.

Upon impact the oil in the bottles splashed onto the bridge and once the torches hit the blaze had begun, it would not be long until Rohan's army was stranded in a foreign land. General Gaal ordered scouts to continue to patrol the river in case his adversaries found other means of crossing, he and his army would stay to keep an eye on the main host of Rohan.

The Witch King swiped at an Orc, his firey sword arcing across the air and etching its way into the troll's flesh. The troll roared in pain, and swiped at the Witch King, who agily avoided his blow.

The Witch King spurred his horse into full gallop away from the beast, who tore after him like an out of control avalanche, the ground rumbling as it chased the dark rider. The Lord of the Nazgul kept ahead of him, and soon, the troll crashed into the ground, the bitter poision of the Nazgul blade finally doing its work. When the blade pierced flesh, that was all it needed to do its work. The Black Captain trotted his way up onto a nearby hill to observe the battle. The moon was high in the sky, and the stars shone brightly. He could see many of the bodies of the Hez'rias, litering the battlefield. And there were many. The Witchking was not happy to see so many casualties. How did this happen?

A roar caught his attention as he saw 3 of his calvary harrassing another troll, they threw their lances into the troll's leathery hide, and the troll, with its massive girth, answered with a huge tree trunk into all three riders. So that was it. Overpowering the riders. Killing many of them with single blows.

The onslaught had been stemmed though. There seemed to be 15 or so on the field still advancing. But more than 3/4 of the calvary had been wiped out. This required a change in strategies.

"Calvary to me!" the Witch King shouted, his voice amplified in the minds of his riders. They moved to form around the Witch King, using their speed to put some distance between the trolls and their positions.

"Form up." the Witch King said to them directly. "We're going to use numbers to pick off the periphery. Trolls are stupid creatures. I will be bringing the Infantry up and set traps. Your missions are to draw them away from the peripheries, move them into position of the infantry. And keep them distracted. We'll ambush them and wipe them out! Kill any trolls you can, but keep yourselves alive."

"Heyiah!" they shouted, then rode out to meet the trolls once more.

The Witch King rode down to the waiting infantry, marshalling them.

"I want 5 groups of 200 at my mark, present at the north facing sides of the hills. We're going to lead the trolls up and over the hills. When the rider passes you, you are to ascend and crest the hill. This will give you higher ground over the up and coming trolls, plus a 200 to 1 ratio. Flank out and try to keep single damage swipes to a minimum. Throw your swords if you can't get in for a swipe. You'll have about three trolls per group, plus a few calvary to back you up. If you all succeed, you'll be legends. Now move into position, and claim Angmar's rightful place in Middle Earth!"

The Troopers began to group and head towards their assigned hills.

    To All: Payday Once Again!!!

To Imperial_Hammer: You didn't lose that many calvary, that was my mistake. It was supposed to be 950 calvary, not 95. So I will wait to respond as the Trolls until you have made the proper adjustments. Once again, my mistake.

To dontlookatmethatway: Catapults are mobile and trebuchets are stationary. They cost the same, it is just how they are used.

IC: Saruman in Isengard and Captain Gnarf in Fangorn Forest

Saruman had spent much time of late watching the situation in Fangorn, and it has proven to be a thorn in his side for too long now, it was time to act. He now stood in the pits that once was a beautiful wooded grove, now only the machines of industry could be viewed, what was once a place of nature was now dark and smelled of the furnaces that forged its weapons. "Captain Grumat" he spoke to a nearby orc captain, "take the new infantry to the southern border of Fangorn, wait outside the treeline, feel free to harvest trees while you are there. Captain Gnarf will use the Uruk Hai and Infantry to draw out the Ents, once we get them into the plains of Isengard we will batter them into extinction."

As he watches the orc captain prepare the newly formed infantry of Isengard he prepared a quick spell to send a message to his captain in Fangorn, "Captain Gnarf, pull your forces to the southern edge of Fangorn, but stay in the forest. I am going to send a message to the Ents that they will not fail to understand, once they arrive you are to engage them in a controlled retreat and draw them out of the forest so that our additional infantry can assist." There would be a great struggle soon, the ancient forces of nature would clash with the new force of industry, and Saruman would ensure that it was industry that prevailed.

He now prepared a second message, this to Treebeard. "Treebeard, my old friend. I regret that it is me that must bring you this news, but your time in Fangorn is over. Even as this message reaches you thousands of trees are dying on the southern border, and this will continue. I give you one chance for the survival of the Ents, you may leave now to Lothlorien in peace and there will remain hope for the Ents, if you stay in Fangorn or ever leave Lothlorien and I will personally see to it that all the trees of Fangorn including the Ents are burnt to their stumps." The message was sent off as usual on the breeze, soon his friend would know the true intent of Saruman the White.

IC: General Gaal, Northern border of Dunland/Enedwaith

As the first wave of Warg hit the bridge with its oil and flame, General Gaal motioned for a second wave of rides carrying more oil, this time 10 riders took off for the bridge at a full charge conciously using hills and cover to conceal their location against archers. Once near the bridge they would unleash more fuel to the fire, there would be no crossing for Rohan's army here, at least not while General Gaal stood in their way.

    Battle of the Shire

Vladimor watched with concern as his men fell before his eyes. Every single death was a crushing blow to his own poor, weak heart, as if it was his own family out there. But this was different. This was not how his father had died, nor his brothers. They had fallen to mighty foes on even battlefields, with the wind snarling around their ears and the smell of smoke and fire in the air. They had breathed their last beside brave comrades and in front of vicious monsters and cruel hearted men of armour and steel. They had not died at the hands of some pitchfork-wielding halfling farmers.

Furious to lose any of his army at all to these surprisingly courageous little folk, Vladimor bellowed out commands with a fierceness he did not he possessed.

?Archers, pull back!? he screamed. They had taken too many casualties. ?Retreat to a safe distance. Infantry, wipe out those halflings!?

He turned to the leader of his cavalry.

?Pull your men out of battle and split them in two. These two halves will flank the hobbit archers on either side in a pincer movement. Go as wide as you need to, and then charge in when you have outflanked them. I don?t want to see a single one of those midgets standing at the end. Go!?

Even with the addition of orcs from Moria, the sheer number and superiority of Rohan Calvary basically ensured Rohan victory. Horses were bigger, faster, and stronger than orcs, and it showed. As the calvary striked in waves against the Moria infantry, the orcs could do little but be trampled.

The column of smoke from the burning bridge floated up through the air. Théodred narrowed his eyes. The commander was more wily than he had anticipated. No matter. He turned to one of his men. ?Send out the order to set up camp. Double the number of scout patrols and tell all soldiers to be alert. I want them ready to move on a moment?s notice.? ?But-" ?Just do it.? The man saluted stiffly and rode away. Théodred looked out again at the bridge. The reason he was keeping his troops here was because it meant the enemy had to keep their troops here. It tied their soldiers down like a lead weight. If they moved, he could cross the river and into Dunland. Now all he needed to do was play the waiting game.

Yet more battles were hidden by the veil of the future. But Éomer knew it was his duty to do this. No matter how much personal hardship it caused him, he would continue onward.

He waved over the Trumpeteer, the one that would signal retreat. He had not been used once in Nargoth's history as cheif, but there was a first time for everything. "Blow the trupmet. We are leaving this cursed land." At the sound of the trumet, all the forces were shocked, but there shock only lasted a second, for they knew how to take orders. And so began the exudus of Orcs from Rohan. Nargoth pulled Twisthate aside. "Tell your men to re-group at the base of the misty mountains. We will go from there!"

IC: Captain Gnarf in Fangorn Forest

Now that the Elves were gone from Fangorn it was time to focus on removing the Ents, and as luck would have Treebeard chose that time to appear and question the will of Isengard. "What is this treachery!" Treebeard said in a powerful voice. All in the area looked with sudden alarm at the immense creature, but quickly realized that he appeared to be alone.

It was the Uruk-Hai Captain who gave Treebeard his response, he picked up a burning log from a fire nearby and looked to the tree herder, "This land belongs to Isengard now, Saruman demands that you leave the forest and retreat to the Mirkwood and there you shall stay. Deny the master of the tower at your own risk."

With such bold words all the troops in the area began to bristle with anticipation of a fight, many held axes and swords at the ready, while others wielded flaming torches or logs. At the sign of anything less than full agreement to the terms of Isengard and they would swarm on the Ent like ants, and after him they would search out the rest of his kind and eliminate them.

After a moment of silence Saruman heard the reply from his General, "Yes my Lord, I will see to it that Rohan's efforts here are wasted." With that the spell ended, and Saruman sent a runner down to the archer units, they were to assemble and march into Dunland behind the Rohan calvary, additional orders would be given once they arrived in northern Dunland.

    IC: Raine Yubari

Raine jumped athleticly from her horse as soon as the infantry clashed. During her forward somersault she pulled out her two scimtars and slashed the two hobbits next to her.
"For Rhun!" she shouted to her troops.
