Seriously though, that really is amazing.

 

At birthdays or gatherings, they always ask me, "Casper: that date, that year -- what did we do?" And then I go, "We were there, it smelled like this, I turn around and see that", et cetera. I don't know where I store all those things!

 

I used to be a bit like that when I was little. Like I would be the one kid in class who knew all the state capitals, all the presidents that sort of thing.

But I think I've managed to thoroughly damage my brain over the years.

 

Yeah, I was like that, too. I always was surprised everyone else was so, well, dumb. Which made me the leader automatically, I think. I was always telling them what to do, where to go, what we were going to do. Most people were half-dead, just waiting to be led.

But I think the rum/cokes are about to take over. Better head off.

So after I get off work Laurie and I are taking the kids to the county fair.

 

Cool. What is it?

 

It's like the only really big annual event in our little community. Every Labor Day weekend (Labor Day being the first Monday in September) there is a big Carnival and Rodeo. We steer clear of the rodeo, but we always take the kids to the carnival, usually on the first day when it's less crowded.

 

Sounds like fun. In this small farmer's village we don't have that kind of stuff, only little markets in April and September, and games for children.

Middle Ages!

 

It's like that for the most part here too, especially in the summer when the college isn't in session. This "county fair" thing is the only time any tourists are pulled into our little valley.

It's kind of crazy really. We have all these hotels that stay empty the whole year, then for this one weekend they're all overflowing.
