The Malevolence

I'm assuming there'll be a lot of talk about this new ship in the upcoming weeks, so I decided to just make a thread about it so we can steer most Malevolence-related discussion this way.

To start off, I was really impressed by the ship's debut in the Behind-the-Scenes special last Friday. Despite the fact that its ion blasts are barely faster than a tiny dilapidated freighter, the thing at least looks badass. But on first glance, I was immediately reminded of KOTOR's Leviathan. I understand Grievous's ship is supposed to be an earlier version of the Invisible Hand, which itself is modeled off of the IBC frigates, but the Malevolence resembles the Leviathan far more, IMO.

It's especially noticeable in the BTS special, when the Twilight is flying near the "open-mouthed" gap in the front of the vessel.

EDIT: Hmmmm... those images are grotesquely disproportioned. But you get the idea.

 

Really? It looks far more like a combo of the Providence and the Frigate than it does the Leviathan.

Matter of fact, I don't see much connection to the Leviathan at all beyond the prow...and the frigate does that better.

 

I believe the Malevolence is actually based off of unused ROTS concept art for a Separatist warship.

Little video clip on the Malevolence being designed. I find it funny that they mentioned Bismarck, because that's exactly what the ship evoked in my mind when I saw it.

 

I love the Bismarck-thought, especially since the story has a few comparable points. Sure, the Malevolence destroyed a lot more before being hunted, but the fighter attack and crippled escape to Seperatist space in Friday's episode is spot-on. Even that the Twilight was the first and only ship to get away in Ep2 could be likened to the spy plane that 'found' the Bismarck.

Amazing coincidence that I saw a documentary about the Bismarck not two weeks ago

 

Yeah, that's what I thought when I first saw it...it's like a huge Great White going after its prey.

 

I love that ship. I can't wait to see it action.

 

You'd better hurry, if the title to this week's episode is any indication.

 

I wonder when Grievous will get the Invisible Hand?

Maybe we'll even get to see the Colicoid Swarm and Lucid Voice.

 

Man, I wish they had kept this ship around longer. It was really only used to any effect in the first episode. I mean, I know later SD's have similar ion canons, but it would have been cool if they pumped up the threat level of this thing by having it wreck terror around the galaxy before it was canned.

 

Yeah, but you have to admit though...it went out spectacularily when it hit that moon.
