"...the mighty Chewbacca"

Been watching the original trilogy recently on laserdisc. Happy days. Was watching ROTJ the other day. There's a bit in Jabba's palace where Jabba goes, "At last we have the mighty Chewbacca!"
What's all that about? How does he know he's mighty? Have they met before? Is Chewbacca famous? Or notorious?

 

Jabba knows Han and Chewie because they smuggled for him. Chewie and Jabba were both in the same scene together in ANH in the docking bay while Han and Jabba were talking about repayment on a dropped shipment.

 

Jabba is attempting a joke.

Thats most of it, plus consider that he's a Wookiee, and quite strong, and thus 'mighty' in that sense. As for fame or notoriety, Chewie's well known as Han's partner and together they're among the very best in the business.

 

Yep. Chewbacca is most likely known as the bodyguard noone can get through.

Everyone knows Chewie as Hans right hand man and his co pilot.

Jabba is fond of Han at first,that most likely means he respects chewie for helping Han with the leg work.

 

Or maybe Chewie becomes notorious for his heroic exploits during the Clone Wars?

 

I don't think Chewie was all that heroic during the Clone Wars,
seeing as how the Empire took control over Kashyyyk after the war.

 

i dont know the answer other than how he was portrayed in marvel comics, he was certainly 'mighty' there
