But if you haven't run across any actual studies, where did you get this idea? I understand that you've had some upsetting experiences, but that doesn't mean that an entire generation of young people is in some sort of trouble.

Young people ran away to Hollywood during cinema's Golden Age all the time, and back then the distinctions between "actress" and "prostitute" were not nearly so well-defined. You may be making some valid connections between the rise of big media and changes in popular mores, but I hardly think the last 25 years has stood out in that regard.

Yeah,I remember vividly how suddenly my allowance was worth half its US value when we moved there one time.
The NOK has plummeted a lot now though because of the oil crash so its a lot better to USD to NOK.
and yeah its pretty great,I consider myself privileged to consider both countries home,they are so similar in so many ways so what you notice most are the small differences,but yeah Norway is crazy expensive and the taxes are truly insane imho lol,

 

i don't care how you define unrealistic. I care how the studies you are citing define unrealistic. because i doubt that they do, or that the studies exist.

i guess this depends on your social circle and who you associate with? sure, in the (adult) film industry there will be a lot of people struggling to reach fame.

in my circle, we're mostly just normal 20-somethings working to get a degree that'll guarantee us a job in a field with only okay pay. most of my friends prioritise getting an education in a field that they'll enjoy working in, and where there is need for people.

that's my experience anyway. you have a different one. could this mean that people are just different, and that this has nothing to do with generations?

I watched Hot Girls Wanted on Netflix. The message was that there are a lot of desperate 18 year olds who don't have any financial support from family to go to college and/or who didn't graduate or just barely ("barely" get it?) graduated from high school. They see the prospect of working as waitresses or bartenders (don't know if you can do that before you're 21 in most states) as somehow less glamorous than working in the adult film industry. So the adult industry attracts 18 year old women who aren't smart enough to figure out what a bad idea this is. But the experience of actually working in porn is so educational that even the very dumbest of them figure out what a bad idea it was within 6 months. The industry doesn't swallow. It spits 99% of those girls back out within a few months even if in the rarest of rare circumstances they can't figure out on their own what a bad idea it was.

It's the worst possible of learning experiences for the people most likely to need to learn that lesson.

The bigger picture is that there are so many of these 18 years olds who wrongly conclude that taking a shot at porn is a good idea precisely because of the country's persistent educational and income inequality that leaves almost everyone not college or vocational training bound completely stranded.

 

I mentioned something from my time in finance,which surely is another industry.
The military don't really count as a good indicator for gauging civilian society.
Maybe I could have mentioned something from college or something but I was merely mentioning examples from my own life not really drawing conclusions.
"blanket stereotypes"..really,you just indicated that you dont really read what you are commenting on..that or you have a low barrier for what offends you.
