Since KW brought it up earlier:

    .

solojones I could have sworn Reynolds said the "N.L. was more exciting baseball." Regardless, my anti-DH position remains... Verducci is 100% on point. If you think about it, MLB is perhaps the quirkiest out of all the major pro sports here in North America. Aside from the dimensions of the infield, there's no set standards for outfield dimensions. Thus, having the DH in only 1 league is consistent with that quirkiness.

It is the quirkiest. Which is why there's no problem having different sets of rules. If you are going to standardize the rules you should standardize the stadiums as well... And you shouldn't do either.

But no, what they said was that some say we ought to standardize the rules but they disagree, that they like this excitement of two different leagues coming together.

Man, **** the Marlins. Especially those 97 Marlins.

And **** Jose Mesa. Seriously, just **** him.

Thanks for bringing up old wounds, Tunes.

Only tangentially related to the issues with the strike zone, but I'm kind of surprised the dead center camera hasn't gone universal yet. It takes some getting used to, but as long as it's not too high, it's so much better than the offset shot. Makes it much easier to complain about the umpires.

    Amazing.

Seems like there were some questionable decisions this game. Why scramble like that over and over when it's a 1-run hot pursuit game? This is Bochy's failure.

Maybe it's a good thing I didn't get to watch this game.

I had to work, but I can't imagine how it would've felt to watch that cluster**** after all nine innings. Thank god I only had to watch the last three.

I found the drama/closeness of this game wonderful to watch... thankfully the Royals won it, their bullpen continuing their -mostly- good work.

Anyway, pretty sure the Royals have this. I'll keep watching because I'm not just gonna abandon my team after watching all postseason, but I know a better team when I see it.

At worst, KC will get things back to Kauffman. At best, they'll finish the Giants off in San Francisco.

I think it's gonna be a long series either way. Not giving up yet.

Also, have to move from victory beer to defeat whiskey for the second time. Gonna be a fun night.

I doubt we will finish it in San Fransisco. Now I have to start rehearsing speeches to my boss about why I need to leave work at 4pm on Tue and maybe Wed. I'm willing to hear pitches from the room on the beauty of baseball and 29 years and etc.

Edit: the LA times story on the game, bracketed by the story of how Zach Grienke can suck it :) (my paraphrase)

I presume your boss knows of your K.C. allegiance? If so, then speak the truth. If not, then lie!

Greinke's time will come with the Dodgers. Well, it goddamn better.

When I said it was going to be a short series, I meant that the Royals were going to win in 5.

Anyway, I obviously know very little about baseball, so I'm retiring from prognosticating this series either way.

What's happened to Posey's offensive game lately? Absolutely lights-out amazing in the 2010 and 2012 postseasons, but he's been average, at best, this October.

Still one of the best defensive players in the MLB, obviously. I'm glad we have him for a long time to come.

KC Royals: adopting the 1986 Mets strategy to perfection it seems!

(Win every "non Mike Scott Madison Bumgarner" game!)

Glad I woke up to this!

At this point, I'd get a case of ****-it-all and have Timmy start a game. Then again, I don't have the discipline or knowledge of a baseball manager. I'm sure there's some reason why we're still starting with Vogelsong tomorrow.

It's simple, he's just not that good anymore. I can see him doing well in a relief role though, as he did in 2012.

Saw this in r/sfgiants: (beware, it's a Game of Thrones season 4 spoiler)

I have no idea why there's a Giants logo on the Kingsguard in the background. The little one on the goblet is good, though.

    edit: time for the Vogeltron!

I mean, I love Bruce Bochy and he's a sure-fire HoFer... but I don't know what he's seeing out of his team that he's not pitching Bumgarner tonight; especially since it rules him out for a potential Game 7.

I mean, I get the thinking -- if they win tonight, they have a near sure thing tomorrow to go up 3-2... but that's a big if. And if you lose tonight, you have to essentially sweep a regular season series (3 games)...
