There were 932 intentional walks last season, the fewest in a non-strike season since 1962 (when there were only 20 teams). That's about 1 every 3 games, the lowest rate since they started tracking intentional walks. I know they're focused on speeding up the game, but this is neither the problem nor the solution.

And taking away some of the risk, albeit small, inherent in an intentional walk (wild pitches, accidentally throwing over the plate), make an already anti-competitive play even more so. I'd rather they ban them altogether and force them do the unintentional intentional walk, which at least requires some effort.

    Amazing.

I dont think you actually save much time on forgoing four pitches. The game is fine the way it is, if we start implementing many more "pace of the game changes", baseball games will end in the 7th inning.

Apparently, Jim Joyce and Bob Davidson have retired. Now if only a couple of other umpires (cough, cough, Joe West and Angel Hernandez cough, cough) would do the same...

Didn't Jim Joyce cost a pitcher a Perfect Game?

Armando Galarraga. Jim Joyce made an incorrect call of "safe" at first base in the 9th to cost Galarraga a Perfect Game. This no doubt sparked even more debate (if there wasn't enough already) for Instant Replay in Baseball.

Jim Joyce was an awesome ump, the Galarraga thing aside. Tim Welke and John Hirschbeck, the spittee in the Roberto Alomar incident, also retired.

    Amazing.

At least Jim Joyce admitted that he effed up immediately. I can't say the same about that AL President who inexplicably reversed the ruling on the field of the Pine Tar Incident.

Am debating on possibly heading to a spring training game next friday before the regular season gets going. Figured I've never been to one and I'm not too far away, so perhaps I should look at the possibility. We'll see what happens, but am hoping I can get it worked out!

Anyone have any suggestions or comments on what to do while there? Or just relax and enjoy the game per the norm?

My dad and I took a trip out to Arizona a few years ago to watch some spring training games. It was fun, relaxed, can catch several ballgames within a few days span. I would do it again. It's not grade-A baseball, in fact there were points where I felt like I could have gone out and competed. But that's a pipe dream. Still though, it was the level of play that is out there at spring training. It's fun to watch, knowing these are full blown major league ball clubs. I would recommend to any baseball fan to do it at least once.

Yeah, gotta be careful of that. Though, it won't matter what I do. Even with the highest spf, I burn within seconds. Just the way I am. There's literally no difference between putting on sunscreen and not, so I still won't.

    And get burned.

But hey, I've been burned so often in my life I don't even feel it anymore. :p Bring it on, Arizona.

usually if I put on a high SPF I will tan more also the more I go out and keep reapplying lotion I will tan I just haven't been out in the sun recently on a regular basis and thought it was going o be cloudy. although I have burned in cloudy foggy weather down here. I actually like the spray sunblock it coats better. I am basically icing it and putting on that cold green gel cant remember what its called? and wearing long sleeves, and we are having chilly weather here after a huge thunderstorm the other night. some kind of a front.
