Arena The Major League Baseball Thread

Maybe now the WBC will become a bit more interesting to people. Perhaps not a lot more yet, but even just a bit would be nice IMO.

 

Probably helps that the WBC is treated as more than just an exhibition game by the players, unlike the All - Star games in various sports

 

Still feels like a money grab of someone watching the World Cup who thought "hmmm, we can make money - lots of money - if we did this with baseball".

Doesn't feel organic to me, still feels forced, and that's a large part of what suppresses my interest.

 

Sure, but there still are moments that remind you how awesome baseball can be; Saturday's Dominican/USA game being a nice example of that.

 

I can just watch YouTube highlights of Rajai Davis' homer in game seven if I need that.


(and pretend the rest of the game never happened)

Just a great piece from The Ringer. Lots of tidbits I knew, but pulled together nicely with a few I didn't. Love Tito, love him so much. Really hope he ends our baseball drought with a World Series Title.

 

The things that make me ponder: those Dugout Club seats you see in blue there had previously been tan-ish yellow since '06 (they were dark blue in '05, the first year of the current setup). Why change the color now?

 

Maybe it's just for the WBC?

 

I doubt it... why reupholster a whole section of seats for just 2 games?




Anyway, the 1st Final for a US team... not bad; tonight's game might be the only championship game (of a final round) played at Dodger Stadium this year.

 

All those mid-90's Dodger memories just feel so nice when seeing that photo.

 

I'm not a Dodgers fan, but I loved Nomo-mania. It was almost as good a Fernando-mania of the 80s. It was just cool seeing a guy of Fernando's stature on the mound dealing.

 

RIP Dallas Green.

i had so much respect for Nomo though later on when he lost a lot of his fastball. jim traber use to be an announcer for the d'backs and he brought up all those complete games Nomo threw in japan before coming over here while i was listening.. he threw i think 80 cg's in the early 90s . I remember watching him in 2002 how he gutted games out. It's funny tim lincecum was very similar in style to him, but when he lost his velocity it was all over.

Always nice to see a championship decided at Dodger Stadium... doesn't happen often enough.

 

As long as the champions are the Dodgers, I'll be fine with that.

The "HOLY TOLEDO" is a nice touch/tribute to the late great Oakland (Raiders, A's and Warriors) MLB Hall of Fame announcer Bill King.

 

I've heard his voice quite a bit through NFL Films, especially the Holy Roller.
