Screw Star Wars. What's in the Disney/Lucasfilm merger for Guybrush?
Did the mouse actually buy the rights to Lucasarts? It may have been said in one of the press releases I hadn't read. I just can't seem to find it anywhere.
Straight from Disney.
Disney have suggested that new assets gained from Lucasarts will go towards a strong focus on the social gaming market.
In other words expect the only console and PC games to be coming out of Disney to be Star Wars games licensed out to third party developers.
I wonder if this be part of Disney Interactive's ToyBox idea...
I would love to see a Junction Point/LucasArts collaboration though!
They'll have their business goals and targeted demographics. Not much will change we'll just see more. There may even be a few decent movies but they'll never be great.
I hate it because all the fun is gone. It's all about the brand now. Plus with the army of Disney lawyers at the watch all the fun that we've been having with fanfilms over the years will go away.
But hey we may finally get Battlefront 3.
It's fitting when you consider that Monkey Island was originally inspired by the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. If LucasArts/Disney is going to continue to not support MI I hope they let Telltale make another season.
'focus on social and mobile platforms'? UGH.
Could be a good thing. One of my current favorite apps is Where's My Water, a Disney game.
All Darth Vader ever wanted was to be a real boy...
