I took my dog Shiloh for a walk about an hour after sunset. The crescent moon was gorgeous. You could see the earthlight on the dark side of the moon. Venus was brilliant, as it has been all month, high in the southwest. The smaller red glow of Mars was next in line. In the east, Orion was slowly rising, with Rigel just above the southeast horizon.

Now, I'm going to build a fire, light some candles, and listen to Beethoven's 7th Symphony (Bernstein, NYP).

It's a good night to remember the beauty and vastness of the universe.

    Happy New Year!

I love the 7th, especially the first movement as the main theme crescendos.

I have to admit, I am really struggling this year. I'm overwhelmed by all the death and loss in 2016. I am very much not looking forward to 2017 and what Trump's America will bring for me and those I love. I mean I am generally not a huge New Years fan anyway, but some years can be good if things fall into place. This year, family gathering didn't. My sister's family couldn't make it, my brother's family made other plans. I had plans to hang out with my roommate/friend and just act like New Years wasn't happening, eating food and watching TV. But he decided to have his new crush over to hang out and spend the night. Really down about being flaked on so I could feel like a third wheel on a night when most people are looking for someone to kiss at midnight. And indeed I wake up today to both roommates with their special guests in their rooms, and I am lonely, miserable and alone.

Want to know how I rang in the New Year? I didn't. I went to the cinema and watched Rogue One at 11pm. I was oblivious to the whole of it and I am glad. **** 2016. **** New Years and **** 2017.

Ah, yes. Of course, he was wrong. POTC was very cool, but not funky. [face_monkey]

Indeed. I am looking forward to the next POTC film. Should be a fun romp. We need more fun romps.

I think we should make a sticky thread with this title. It would be a long thread.

I think I saw a trailer for the new POTC film. Maybe during the Super Bowl. Someone please tell me if I am just getting senile.

No, the second trailer for POTC5 aired at the super bowl for the first time, I believe. I didn't like the music that went with the second trailer, though. But the music that goes with the first trailer was pretty good.

I didn't like the music either, but I did like the footage itself, and that's the important thing right? :p

But as I said to my family - you've got the whole Hans Zimmer POTC library and that's what you go with? :p Song itself wasn't bad, I just don't think it fit.
It's easy to get a new #1. All you gotta do is fall asleep listening to "Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, Darth Maul, & the Invisible Wall." :p

Well, the next closest film score is 11 plays behind it. And that's a track from Lost, which I haven't listened to in ages. I did notice a few Hobbit tracks have crept into the top 30, that's cool.

OK, so listening to the ESB soundtrack, anyone know why a bunch of it was removed from the movie? Music from Luke's training was removed, music from the fight with Vader was removed. Along with the 80s synth and horror piano. A lot of good stuff in there.

In general, music like that is removed because the filmmakers feel the scene plays better without music. Or with different music.
