Lit The Mysterious Admiral in Aftermath

I think this guy deserves his own thread since he is mostly going to play a very important role in the upcoming story.

As the admiral of Ravager, he only showed up in the end of the book without a name being mentioned. He spoke in a pleasant soft manner to Sloane about building a new Empire that people will support, after he told the Rebels about the info of the meeting to "test" the remaining Imperials. This guy does resemble Thrawn a lot, is he going to be new canon version of Thrawn, or could he be someone else?

 

It's either Maul or Jar Jar. Or possibly Jake Loyd.

 

Or... Mon Mothma's estranged brother, Artar Mothma. Now that would be a twist!

MM: Artar?! But I thought you were dead! They showed your tombstone in "Star Wood" and all!
AM: Ah, dear sister. You don't know the power of the new canon!

By no means am I a Thrawn fan boy, and in general I'm kind of indifferent to that character. With that being said, I really hope this mystery admiral is actually Thrawn, since the way he was presented in Aftermath sure seemed a lot like him. And if it ain't Thrawn, then this character would be (superficially at least) his rip off.

 

Whether he is or isn't, I think it's pretty clear he was written this way just so people would talk about whether he's Thrawn or not and be hyped to find out for Aftermath 2. Which was fortuitous, since it doesn't seem like anything else from Aftermath is leaving people hyped for its sequels.

 

Well, Sloane is the Pellaeon of the new canon...

 

Thrawn likes art and is articulate. The Admiral likes music and is articulate.

Of course that meams it must be Thrawn.

 

He most probably isn't. This new canon is like Steven Moffat's DW stories: they let you think that you're going to see something you already know and want to see coming back, but gives something else.

I checked on here as soon as I was finished with the book and was surprised not to find a thread about it...

Yeah, my reaction was obviously "Thrawn!" and I think the author definitely, definitely wrote it with the full knowledge that millions of fans would leap to that conclusion. I suspect it's not him, but still - while reading, I "saw" that scene in my head with Thrawn in the role of the admiral.

 

It's NuThrawn. He's gonna be even better: Smarter! Stronger! Cooler! He'll have even beaten the "Thrawn Simulator".

 

Denning isn't writing him, so have some hope.

 

It's so obviously Thrawn that I suspect it might not be. But if it isn't him then who? Hiding the identity makes no sense unless it's someone we know. Didn't get a Maul vibe tbh. Maybe it's Ashoka again.

 

I was joking by the way. Not being snarky. Or at least not entirely. I mostly just wanted to make a joke about the Thrawn Simulator
