NYC, NY The never ending nonsense...

Just to keep people aware of what's going on. the same night we received the E-mail virus someone sent and e-mail to the staff box at SWNYC (In all the commotion we missed it then) it was a link to an account at Reunion.com where someone proudly set up an obscene link using Samantha's HS graduation info. They also made obscene references to Sam and Alan with the question needed to access the account and sent us the info on it.

I would like to now write an open letter to the party/parties involved and their supporters.

You have indeed, achieved the status of sicko (s) No, not because you have seen Attack of the Clones, Spiderman or My Big Fat Greek Wedding a gazillion times. rather, you have achieved this title because of the life you so lack and prove it more everyday by doing this ridiculous nonsense.

By all means you and your droogies can go out and get drunk and celebrate another amazing feat of daring do. And while you are, take a good hard look at each other. The person (people) with the capability of doing this to us over crap on a messageboard is just as capable of turning on you and one day, rest assured they will. My Clockwork Orange reference was not random, remember what happened to Alex at the hands of his Ex terror-mates.

We are going to the authorities about this and see what they have to say. We have already begun seeking legal and law enforcement advice. Don't think for one minute we fear any of you. Your type hide in shadows and pass us with your heads bowed when you see us ashamed to look us in the eye and face us.

Do you really think you will cease SWNYC to exist with your nonsense? You have no clue! Do you really think we will stop our charity events and hospital visits on account of a few kiddies with too much time on their hands? Are you people so jealous of Alan and Sam's happiness that you want to see them broken up? Well I have news. SWNYC is STRNNGER THAN EVER! On our horizon, is a positive future. Alan and Sam are closer than ever and I now not only consider Sam a friend, I side with her, stand by her and support her fully. Someone once posted SWNYC seems to think we are neccessary to NY SW fandom. We never thought that. But I will say this. None of you that are part of this little Kinder-conspiracy are neccessary to our club's survival. We have plenty of great events planned in the near future that include having fun and raising money for sick and needy children and their families. We welcome all our new members who have shown support and enthusiasm.

In closing, get a life, people, so we can live ours and you can live yours in peace.

If it was sent to the Staff account, y'all were the only ones who could know about it (other than whomever sent it). By posting it here you just drag out whatever feelings had begun to sublimate...

I, for one, could have remained blissfully unaware of this for the rest of my life and been okay.

Was this just a "zing" at whoever sent it? ("We know it was you! Ha!") If so, couldn't it have been handled in a PM? We can't see the staff email. I don't want to know what it says (and I'm probably not alone). And I don't want to see the linkage either.

I guess I'm just curious... "what good can come of this?"

 

We don't know who has done certain things...we do know who has done other things. We are not accusing any one individual of the things we don't have conclusive proof of, but we are having investigations done.

But again... why the public announcement? And how does setting up links (pornogaphic? secret?) consitute potentially dangerous or criminal activities?

I agree on the virus (bad news; illegal) and I don't know about the linkage but I'll assume for the moment that it does not meet the stringent legal definition of slander, libel or defamation of character... so onwards below...

This is ludicrous. I would consider me receiving the 150 or so actual letters (and packages) this March - July from a man still obsessed with my sister after around 8 - 10 dates in 1990 as the behavior of a stalker. Oh, and by the way, he was a "guest" of a southern state at the time.

A tiff between a club staff and a/some (former) member(s) hardly constitutes such behavior. Since, as you said, it occurred at roughly the same time as the original "nonsense" I'd expect it to likely be nearly done, if not actually done by now.

But if, as you said, only staff members were receiving the email with the link, why not just post it in the Staff Forum at SWNYC and tell everyone to be on guard. It's not out of the question.

Plus behaviour like this shows that SWNYC is actually so important that people would take time out of their lives to do that...its a badge of honor really to get this much attention...

Except the person(s) responsible will not only have to answer to us, they will have to answer to the poilce. This goes way beyond sicko.

Just to let all know, I am still in talks with this persons ISP and now Reunion.com. Both are so far cooperating with me and this investigation.

And i believe LS made all this public knowledge so that EVERYONE knows not to pull this kind of BS, because you will be prosecuted to the fullest exstent of the law.

 

BTW - the reunion.com info was not of my graduating high school info, it was of where i would have graduated if i didnt move. Most everyone knows where i used to live, but no one knows what school i did indeed graduate from..because there are 3 high schools in my high school district. Clever huh?

That sounds like the Five Towns schools -- there's Lawrence and Hewlitt and they're not really separated by much.....

(for Jewish geography, you essentially have a 50/50 shot when someone says "I'm from the Five Towns!")

That is so far beyond an understandable expression of dissent that I can't imagine what justice whoever did it thought they were serving. As someone who regularly gets porn and other unsavory spam in my mailbox because of my involvement in two websites, I empathize with you and wish you luck (and some anti-virus software wouldn't hurt either).

Thanks Sardonicus. Unfortunately, the virus that was sent was a particularly nasty one that can evade most anti virus software.

Sam's right. Whoever is doing this take heed. We will make sure every act against us that is illegal will be investigated and if applicable, prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

 

Chris, Sam, Alan, Will and everybody else affected by these situations - I don't know who is behind the virus or this pathetic and malicious invasion of privacy. If the person was/is a member of NYLine, please let me know. Anybody who feels the need to act out in such a way towards one group does not deserve to be a member of ANY group.

I keep thinking back to how happy we all were May 16th at 2:30 a.m., and it makes me sick to see how things have degenerated since then. As one of the people who has engaged in petty talking behind others' backs, I would like to apologize for contributing to the climate of negativity. As an adult, I should have been above such behavior, and as a representative of NYLine, I should have put the best interests of the group ahead of my own hurt feelings.

As groups, SWNYC and NYLine have had some amazing successes. But we've also had some personal problems, because our members are all human (ok - maybe we have a gungun or two, but who's counting?). But in the interest of maintaining peace among the New York City fan communities, I hope we can all find a way to heal and move beyond this awfulness. Any illegal activity should be punished; once that is accomplished, the best way to raise ourselves out of this muck is forgive the bad behavior and forget the hurt feelings, but remember the fun we've had and the amazing things we can accomplish if we work together.

The best way to do this is to lead by example. So I make the following promise:

In the interest of maintaining a positive climate for all future SWNYC fan activities and the Episode III NYLine, I will have respect for all NYC fan groups and their members. If I have issue with an individual's behavior or a group's policy, I will take it up with the person or group who has the power to change said behavior or policy. If others are being disrespectful of a group or its members in my presence, I will not tolerate it. And if somebody is critical of me because of my actions or my words, I will resolve the situation with that person privately, without dragging other people, the message boards or our respective organizations into the fray.

As someone far wiser than myself said in a movie I think we all know (and no disrespect intended to the Sith among us): "Anger. Fear. Aggression. The dark side of the Force are they. Easily they flow, quick to join you in a fight. If once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny. Consume you it will."

People are becoming consumed with hateful behavior, and it must stop before we're all dragged down. I fully intend to honor this promise, and I hope anybody else who has contributed to or been affected by the recent negative behavior will do the same.

 

I, for one, am baffled about the "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" reference. Now, that's a good movie, a sweet, innocent romantic comedy starring the N'Syncer that doesn't get to go to space, & shouldn't be dragged into this petty bickering.

 

Bravo Steve, very well said As a representative of SWNYC (and I'm speaking for MYSELF, not the group), I will also match your pledge (I feel like I'm on a PBS pledge drive...hehe) and not be dragged down by the ridiculous and cowardly activities that have been taking place. If I see anything irresponsible or unnecessary taking place, I will also take action yet deal with it privately.

I mean come on, we're all here because of our love for the Star Wars Universe, not to see who can be the better fan.

I believe that ALL people who have a problem with a person or persons, should speak to that person/persons in private and not drag the issue and the drama to the messageboard. I salute you Steve for showing mature like behavior, and admitting something's you did were wrong. Its a great starting off point!

And to the person/persons responsible for the malicious act, Steve is serious about the NYline 3. You will NOT be apart of it. So, I suggest just coming forward to any staff member or council member of SWNYC ASAP, to lessen the consequences of your illegal actions.

 

I have to agree with Steve, Sam, and Meri on this. Nobody should have to put up with the garbage that has been going on lately, it's just so....petty. I've had my share of issues with Staff, organizations, and other NY fans, but one thing I've always tried to do (albeit not always sucessfully) has been to take the approach of "If you're willing to talk this out, so am I". Even on issues where SWNYC staff and myself have been 100%, diametrically opposed, and both of us were unwilling to budge, we at least were able to talk like mature, civilized adults, and agree to disagree.

I've also had my share of personal problems with members here too. At first, to be honest, I had some issues with Sam, but I never, ever, even contemplated the cowardly, punk<blank>, things that have been done lately. And over time I've actually grown rather fond of the young Ms.

The point is, as steve said, we all love SW and we need raise ourselves above the nonesense. As someone here who has built a reputation for never backing away from a confrontation let me just say that it's time we all moved on to bigger and better things. The glow of AOTC has faded and now is the time when all of us fans should be pulling together and begining to make this last SW countdown the best.

You know, even with all possible sympathy to you & whoever else may have received these viruses or nasty links or whatever (which, incidentally, did go much too far, were no doubt easily traceable & not even terribly imaginative), & speaking only as an indepedent Star Wars fan residing in NYC & a resigned & casual observer of this whole sorry affair, I still think that I can say that "Steve" (SJLinNYC) made his point clear enough to anyone able to read English without any need for you to restate it.

These "supplementary threats" & endless scoldings are wholly unnecessary, & come off nearly as juvenile as a stuck out tongue, "na-na-na-na-na" & "I told you so." The point was clearly made, he does not need a parrot, & the repetition only waters down the meaning & sincerity of his original statement. If you truly believe in what you address in your above post about keeping the matter private, why not do just that & let the legal/invasion of privacy/ISP issues run their course without drawing more attention to it here on the message board? There is, after all, your favorite candy to vote on. Serious issues like that need to be promptly addressed.

As wrong & immature as the person/people are for having sent whatever they sent, I do believe they will be able to see Episode III somewhere on this planet despite the combined efforts of SWNYC & NYLine. If he or she is willing to go as far as he or she has already gone, I seriously doubt that being a part of NYLine in 2005 is on their "to do" list. As I understand it, you've done what you needed to do as far as alerting the proper authorities? Now, here, why not take it down a notch?

As I remember (& I'm sad to point out that I did watch this drivel in college & grad school), her body was never found after the plane crash. This gave the actress who plays her the chance to fail at a couple of sitcom opportunities & do some low-scale model work before she realized she had it good on ABC daytime. I haven't (& likely won't) watch to find out exactly how they explain her return, but I do know that her long grieving husband (also her real-life spouse) just remarried on the show.

I am now going to spit & scratch myself to reaffirm my masculinity.

 

My contribution to this was when I met Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar) at Game 1 of the 1998 World Series, in addition to giving her my Cracker Jack prize, I complimented her and said I was a big fan of hers from the All My Children days (I hadn't yet started watching Buffy)...

Steve well said. I think we have all behaved poorly at different times. The hope is people can move past it and enjoy SW.

As for handling things privately I have tried that on several occasions with different people only to have my private messages posted or shared with others. if everyone can agree to keep issues private, and keep their word that would be great...unfortunately some here can't and won't

My dear, actually it's neither sarcasm, nor disrespect, nor bashing Catholicism to mention what I actually experienced as a Catholic schoolboy, any more than I am alienating the Mars candy company by pledging my allegiance to Junior Mints on another thread. It's a statement of fact. And what it also might be is your overreacting. Yeah, I think so. Perhaps I could relate the very true tale of the nun who faked her death in front of a class of terrified 5th graders when one of them did not capitalize Jesus? Or another's forcing us during lunch to "eat our peas for Our Savior?"

Sweet merciful crap, if you can't handle factual recollections like these, or if you are so insecure as to intrepret them as bashing your beliefs, you had better never see "Dogma!" Or "Liam," or "Angela's Ashes." I happen to be a devout Irish Catholic, yet apparently, more willing than most to remove the plug from my anus when it comes to truthful recollections of my grade school experiences.
