Games The NEW (12th) Jedi Draft!!- Return Of The Revenge Of The Draft (now in progress!)

Welcome all, to the 2013 Jedi Draft. It’s been about 2 years since our last one on the boards, and we are excited to bring it back, with support and approval from Sinrebirth.

There will be three types of participants in this game:

1) The co-commissioners: that would be myself (@heels1785) and @Axle-Starwielder. We have both been working over the past few months to get the logistics together for this, and when submitting your numbers for matches, you should submit them to both of us.

2) The judges: We are shooting for three. The judging role is very important, and should be those familiar with the subject matter and the bulk of the Jedi/Sith. Judges are encouraged to give breakdowns during the drafting process, and explanations of their decisions throughout the game.

3) The GMs: GMs strategically draft their teams, choose their lineups, and go for glory. We’re going to shoot for 10 GMs in this game, possibly moving up to 12 if the demand is there.

Step 1: The Draft

The draft will be snake-style, for example:

Round 1:
1. Team Satele
2. Team Palpy
3. Team Ewok
4. Team Shaq

Round 2:
1. Team Shaq
2. Team Ewok
3. Team Palpy
4. Team Satele

We’ll go ten rounds- for this draft, there will be no bench, all ten combatants will fight, every round. I’ll randomize the draft order after we conclude sign-ups, and the full list of available Jedi and Sith will be made available at that time (if not earlier).

Step 2: The Matchups

Each GM will send a PM to both myself and Axle listing their numbers- this does not need to be in any necessary order. Here is an example:

You drafted Darth Sidious, Darth Malgus, Darth Bane, Darth Revan, Galen Marek, Yarael Poof, Yaddle, Tott Doneeta, Eeth Koth, and Savage Oppress.

This is an example of what you would send in:

1. Tott Doneeta
2. Eeth Koth TRUMPED with Darth Malgus
3. Darth Malgus TRUMPED with Eeth Koth (notice the flip)
4. Savage Oppress
5. Yarael Poof
6. Darth Sidious TRUMPED with Galen Marek
7. Galen Marek TRUMPED with Darth Sidious
8. Darth Bane
9. Darth Revan (prepared)
10. Yaddle

Notice the strategy of “trumping.” This can be used as a strategy, but is in no way required- however, should you choose to trump, you must list the trump both ways, as two separate numbers. The first number of the two represented by that trump will be used as the actual trump, and the second will be an auto-forfeit. If two teams match auto-forfeits, that particular individual match will be declared a draw.

You also will see that Darth Revan is listed as “prepared.” You have one prep per round (thus, it cannot be used on a full trump), and gives the fighter access to the following: 24 hours notice of the fight, during which they have access to a full overview of who they are fighting (including species, strengths, weaknesses, etc.). They cannot go borrow the Death Star and bring it to the fight, or bring any other weapons/tech other than their lightsaber (or lightwhip, in the case of Lumiya).

So, you may ask, what happens if we get to 5-5? The answer is a glorious team battle, a giant 10-on-10 free-for-all to break the tie. These are quite fun, and while picking, abilities such as battle meditation, etc. can be taken into account as helpful tools, should you ever find yourself in a team battle.

Step 3: Standings and Playoffs

We will have two conferences- Coruscant and Mustafar. Each team will play every team in the game, which should result in a 9 round (or 11, if we go to 12 teams) tournament. Yes, this will be a lengthy game, but it can be incredibly fun if everyone stays involved. At the end of the regular season, the winner of each conference, along with the 2 best records of non-conference winners (wild cards) will face off in a 4-team playoff.

Ah- good question, I did a little work on it- just a few Jedi from the TOR era- mainly Annihilation and the game, but mainly the list for the 2011 draft, plus:

Gnost Dural, Darth Karrid (without Ascendant Spear), Lord Scourge, Kira Carsen, Jaesa Wilsaam, Ashara Zavros, Bengal Marr, Darth Jadus, Darth Zhorrid, Nadia Grell, Sith Emperor, Xalex, Darth Lachris, Darth Tormen.

That's a good point. Whittle it down to the major ones, perhaps? Scourge, Gnost Dural, Karrid, Carsen, and the Sith Emperor. Different era, but I also added Cade Skywalker, I don't think he was on the 2011 list.

Also, Jordan1Kenobi, that's a good idea, we can add those 4. While we're still signing up, if you want to post some names (outside of the ones already put up), we can review and decide.

Once we hit the 12th GM, though, we'll lock the list, which currently is below.
