Welcome to The New and Improved Tactical Question Thread. Our old thread can be found here. Tactical questions or TQ's are most of the time military based questions that involve the replier to use his or her's own abilitys to complete a mission in a set frame of rules. TQ's can range from simple starfighter battles to the more complex ground battles and whole fleet battles. There are two types of TQ's, the good old fashion Original Tactical Questions or the more complex Turn Based Tactical Questions.

    Original Tactical Questions:

Easy and very fun, the Original Tactical Question is a one player question. These TQ's require the replier to complete a task and or mission, while obeying the rules of that Tactical Question.

    Turn Based Tactical Questions:

These are harder and involve many replies with 1-3 other players. These questions put player against player and in the end, the best player or players will win. These TQ's are very much like RPG's, in the sense that you must tag and wait for a person to tag you back before posting on that TQ again.

    RULES:

    1) Have fun

    2) Anyone can post a Tactical Question

    3) Anyone can reply to a Tactical Question

    4) No God-modding
-If this happens, replier's post will be nullified by a Senior Member, and replier will have to retry the TQ or reply to another one.

    5) No flamming and or bashing of other users
-If this happens, user that has bashed or flammed another user will be banned for no less then 24 hours. If both parties are at falut, both members will be banned for no less then 24 hours. If bashing and or flaming goes on, the second time, it is a 48 hour ban and the thired time, a Moderator will be contacted.

    6) No Trolling
    -Moderator will be contacted

    7) Players can not post opponents damage
    -Turn Based Tactical Questions Only

    8) Players must post their own damage in accordance to the attack made

    9) DarthAttorney has the power to ban any member who is caught banning, flaming, and or trolling here

    10) DarthAttorney has full and unquestionable authority here. His word is final

    11) The Senior Members have authority below that of DarthAttorney here, but their rulings will be respected and carried out as if DarthAttorney was giving the ruling himself

    12) After finishing or after repling to a Tactical Question, go back and check your spelling and re read your reply/Tactical Question

    13) Only Senior Members and DarthAttorney have the power to stop a Tactical Question

    14) The Tactical Question can be from ESP. 1 up until Rebel Dream of the New Jedi Order

    15) Only Star Wars based TQ's

    16) No fan-fic creations, unless a Senior Member allows it

    SENIOR MEMBERS

The Senior Members are veterans at these Tactical Questions and who are/were veterans at our old thread. These ladies and gentlemen have as much power as me, to a point. They have the power to do the following:

    1) Banned people for breaking certain and important rules (Listed above)

    2) Can nullify a Turned Based Tactical Question for God-modding

    3) As stated in rule #11:

    11) The Senior Members have authority below that of DarthAttorney here, but their rulings will be respected and carried out as if DarthAttorney was giving the ruling himself.

The Senior Members have the following duties:

    1) Answer any questions a new member, JC member, and or a veteran member may have about this thread and how it works to the best of his/her's abilities

    2) Protect fellow members here against flaming and or bashing, by reporting it to a moderator and banning (if member here) the user who made those comments. But also, the Senior Member must also give a reason and or helpful/friendly hints/sugges

Welcome Gohan. :) If you have any questions before starting game play, feel free to ask me. :)

There was one thing I forgot to put in the opening page. That is Tactical Question News.

    TACTICAL QUESTION NEWS

The Tactical Question News will be at least a monthly if not weekly update of things on this thread and stuff going on around the thread. The Tactical Question News will be posted by a Senior Member. The news includes:

    -Updates
    -Thread News
    -Change of Rules
    -Thread Polls
    -Thread Votes

Okay, after we get some of our old members back and after we get some new members, I'll post the first TQ so people have a guide line/recent example to work from.

Kenobi, I'm sure you can join.

    Thanks Bravo. Here goes...

    Tactical Question:

    Battle Type: land

    Location: some unknown system

    Time Period: Clone Wars

Nearby planets: one rocky planet, with a gas giant in a near orbit

Forces: Corporate Alliance vs Clone Army

    Allies: none

    Foes: Corporate Alliance

    Rules: Play as Clone army

    Mission Information:
The Republic has messed up big time. A legion of the Clone army has been trapped on this small Earth-style planet. Your forces are in the bottom of a huge valley (think Grand Canyon, but wider and hills that can be walked down).

    Forces Mission and goals:
Your objective is to survive until the reinforcements arrive. You can then either escape or try to defeat the droid army.

Forces sizes and ships (Keep it realistic):

    Clone Army:

    500 Clone troops
    10 AT-TEs (AT-AT predecessors)
1 heavy self-propelled artillery piece (the large ships that shot on the Trade Federation core ships)
30 LAAT/i (the flying craft that rescued the Jedi)

    Corporate Alliance:
    450 Battle droids
100 Super battle droids (the big ones with twin blasters on the arm)
    50 Droidekas (The rolling droids)
10 Geonosian fighters (the two craft that escorted Dooku)
50 droid fighters (the ones seen in TPM)
5 Commerce Guild spider tanks (big circle bodies, 4 long straight legs)
10 Commerce guild dwarf spider tanks (smaller, 4 splayed legs)
5 IG Banking clan hailfire droids (the ones with huge wheels)

    Reinforcements (if any):
    Clone Army:
    Arrives after 30 minutes
2 Acclamator-class transport ships (one fully loaded, one empty)
In the fully loaded Acclamator there are:
16000 Clone troops and support personnel
    320 speeder bikes
    80 LAAT/i
    48 AT-TE
    36 Heavy Self-Propelledartilery pieces

I'd like to join if that's okay?

I'm a little unsure about how this works. Basically we have a situation and we choose the best way we think the forces should be directed to ensure out team achieves victory?
Then the people with the best ideas get a better rank or something?

I would like to play but if I do something wrong don't attack me :p ;)

I hope it's ok if I respond to GrandMoffTarkin's question.

    Tactical Question #: ? GrandMoffTarkin's 1st one
    Fraction (Side): Clone Army
Response: Ok, let's see here. First I'll make two lines of AT-TEs, one line faces the left canyon lip, the other faces the right canyon lip. They will be spaced about 20 yards apart. Then I'll put 240 clonetroopers in each line, behind the AT-TEs. They will be spaced about 3 yards apart. Finally I'll put the artillery piece between the two lines, so it can support whichever side needs it at the time. I'll have the extra 20 clonetroopers in the middle near the artillery piece, a few will operate it, and the rest will help whichever side needs it. When the reinforcements come, I load the remaining clones into the LAAT/i ships, then load the AT-TEs & artillery piece into the empty transprt, then load the ones in the transport into the LAAT/i ships. They would provide cover fire while the rest of the ships jumped to hyperspace, then all the ships would make the jump.
Winner: ? I'm not sure, hopefully me?
    Loser: Them, I hope.
Your Losses: Probably the majority of my AT-TEs and around 250 clonetroopers.
Enemy Losses: A lot of battle droids, say maybe 300 if they try to advance. About 40 super battle droids, 20 droidekas, a couple Geonosian fighters, a couple droid fighters, 1 commerce guild tank, a few dwarf spider tanks, 1 or 2 hailfire droids.

    GrandMoffTarkin: Not bad. :D

Kenobi217 - Welcome! :) Anyone is allowed to join and you don't even have to be a member to post TQ's, answer TQ's, and or debate!

LightSide_Apprentice - Welocme! :) Okay, you don't earn rank by how good you are, becuase that would be unfair for people who are here a lot, but who might not be the best tactican. There are two ranks, Member and Senior Member. The Senior Members have earned their ranks not through how good they are at TQ's but how often and how much fun they put into TQ's and into the thread. So, even if you are the best tactican, if you come here and start bashing everyone and or not being very friendly, you probally have very little chance of becoming a Senior Member. But, if you come here with an open mind and you make The New and Improved Tactical Question Thread a better and friendlier place, then you probally have a very high chance of becoming a Senior Member. Going off of that, if you are here as much as you can be/want to be, and you post, answer, and do the debates, and other members see that you are here as much as you can be/want to be and are making this thread a better one, then they can ask a Senior Member to give you the title of Senior Member.

    TACTICAL QUESTION NEWS

Welocme to Tactical Question News, your offical source for all information and news about The New and Improved Tactical Question Thread. This is our first post, and all of use Senior Members would like to thank you all who want to join. Today, we have one news story, and that is our first three Senior Members. Here they are and a little story about their past duties in our old thread.

Bravo - The creator of the old Tactical Question Thread and of The New and Improved Tactical Question Thread. Jason, his first name, first started posting TQ's in the Star Wars Miscellaneous fourm. After JC members such as Cyber and GrandMoffTarkin started answering the TQ's and giving the whole idea a thumps up, Bravo thought about turning his idea into a offical gaming thread here at the JC. After being asked to move over to the Literature fourm, Bravo posted one TQ there. After that, he was asked to move into the new Role Playing fourm. After a early boost and succes with the thread, the thread, called the Tactical Question Thread started to die, as members simply didn't come anymore. After 3 or more attempts to bring the thread upa gain, the third one being the most succesful, Bravo created The New and Improved Tactical Question Thread. The first attempt was the early succesful and later failed Tactical Question Battlegrounds. Although a god idea and a fun idea, only two people really ever used it, GrandMoffTarkin and Bravo. As the old thread was dying, three members, also known as the Tactical Terrors, Warlord_Ken, GrandMoffTarkin, and Bravo stayed and succesfully completed four more TQ's. After that, the thread yet again, started to die. Faced with the choice, to either lock the old thread and never start a new one and Bravo wanted to contuine to have fun and or lock the old one and start a new one, decided to start a new and improved one.

GrandMoffTarkin - A member who has been there from the beginning to the end, GrandMoffTarkin has been an ever present and very good TQ member. Being one of the last three members, GrandMoffTarkin was sure to be there for any TQ and was more then willing to help out anybody who needed help. Raising to be second in command of the TQ thread, GrandMoffTarkin helped out Bravo with a wide range of member and thread issues. If you want a challange in any type of TQ, he is your man.

Wildwookie - One of the first members to ever join up, Wildwookie was sure to be at any TQ. He would alwa

    Tactical Question 1

The problem with this scenerio is the Canyon. It is a death trap to stay in it for several reasons

    1. It prevents retreat
    2. It narrows the firing arc for your opponent, allowing him more targets with less movement
    3. Your army is in a crossfire, and unaible to focus an attack. what I would do is:

First, setup the artilery to fire One way up one side of the canyon. Load the carriers up with a full complement, and have them fly low to the ground, in groups of 6...that should give you enough time in between to cover their escape. Fly through the bottom of the gulley, hopefully, that would allow you to get out of the fire of the main force of the Droid army.

Have them drop off their troops on the top of the gorge, away from the attacking army, which would be attempting to come down the walls, and destroy you. You are feinting a charge UP one side, making your enemy think that...when in actuality, all you are doing is buying time to get transported out of the valley. The good thing about this valley is that it slows, if not stops the advancement of the heavy weaponry...the spiders, or the tanks. Ferry your troops, 30 of these ships should be able to tranfer 500 troops in no time. I would say that my salution would allow for the most lives saved, but the fewest kills on the enemy...that is untill the rest of the clone army arrives.

when they come in, I would have them strafe the Droid army, dropping proton Bombs and all sorts of fun things. After that, the army would regroup, and tackle the droid army with superior numbers. Sometimes it pays to run away...for a while.

    Tactical Question #: 1
    Fraction (Side): Republic Army
Response: I would spread my AT-TE's out and have 50 clonetroopers between each AT-TE they will be in a circular formation, all aiming at the lip of the canyon.Have the self Propelled Artillery piece in the middle.the LAAT's spread out 30 yards apart around the AT-TE's and Clones Guns aimed at the top of the canyons. And then escape with the reinforcements.

Winner:Me with alot of Units lost.
    Losser: Corporate Alliance

    300 Clone Troopers
    10 AT-TE's
    18 LAAT's

Personally, I don't see how anyone could loose this engagement, if you are going by who would win the battle. Even if your company was COMPLETELY destroyed, the reinforcements would show up and decimate the smaller cooperate army. I believe the whole point of the question was to see if you could salvage your troops, and not throw needless lives away. Instead of charging head on into a battle that you know will spell certain doom towards your company...attempt to find a way to salvage most of their lives...that's why I retreated first. Thrawn put it best when he retreated out of Billbringi (was it Billbringi or Slus Van?). If he would have stayed, it would have been because of his personal pride...instead he salvaged resorces, and lived to fight another day.
