Let's use glorious Delta Squad as an example.

Delta Squad existed only in Legends. They were canonized in TCW.

What does this mean for Republic Commando? This is the game that introduced Delta Squad into existence: without this non-Legends entry into the Star Wars Universe, there would BE no Delta Squad to be in the official canon at all.

So does this mean that Delta Squad as they exist in Republic Commando can just be brushed aside?

Here's my gripe with this. Someone like Luke Skywalker was spawned from the canon material. He can be in Legends works that aren't canon, and this is fine: it's just expansions upon a character that we all know.

But Delta Squad is FROM Republic Commando, a Legends work that is not considered to be canon. Delta Squad's story IS that told in Republic Commando, and their brief canonical appearance is an expansion upon the Republic Commando story.

While I am grateful that Delta Squad "officially exists," what is Delta Squad anymore? Delta Squad then exists only as a brief episode in TCW, and everything else can be swept aside. As far as what officially matters at the end of the day then, Delta Squad are characters in one episode of TCW.

Why make Delta Squad canon but not Republic Commando? Why butcher the characters into being just a blip of their mighty existence?

Discuss this in our pre-existing "problem with the new EU" thread. Thanks!
