ST The New Emperor

I like the idea that the deaths of Vader and the Emperor are mere rumours to which the Empire has never admitted. And why should they?

 

Wouldn't people notice, sure you can hide it for a little while but after a few months of nobody seeing them and the rebels claiming to of killed them surely people would catch on

 

No worries, but I wouldn't call 2) and 3) subjective by definition, though they are lacking in concrete evidence.

 

I'd prefer if the Emperor was not used again.

 

Agreed- an Emperor is an impressive title the first time. I have a feeling (if rumours are accurate) that there is no single power base out there, not like in the OT.

 

Perhaps the Governor?

Would the Empire create fake transmissions over the Holonet to pretend that the Emperor and Vader are still alive? Or even employ decoys to continue this myth just to perpetuate a figurehead?

How can the Rebel Alliance prove that the Emperor and Vader are dead with just Luke's word of mouth?

 

It's a plausible idea I suppose. But such a pretence would have a very short life span. What does the Empire do once a new leader is firmly established? Tell the truth about the 2 fakes and formally introduce it's glorious new leader? I don't think that would go down to well in all honesty.

 

No new Emperor, please. That just undoes the victory in ROTJ.

 

Well, the Empire still exists at least in some form in TFA, so you can't have an Empire without an Emperor...

 

I think that the Empire will be radically different in TFA. Possibly even as different as The Grand Army of the Republic was to the Empire...though I do expect them to be clearly the bad guys!

 

But is it still called the 'Empire'? The British Empire wasn't called that because it had an emperor (which it did not). It doesn't seem that another galactic empire was established with a new emperor this time around. At least, not yet.

 

Perhaps. Since Uber seems to be kept in the shadows, it's possible the new emperor (if there is one) is a mere puppet and has no real power, which is what the original version of the emperor was supposed to be.

 

It had an Empress though - Victoria, Empress of India.
