Saga The New Jedi Order

We all know that Luke at the end of episode six is the only known jedi in the galaxy. He will eventually rebuild the Order the only thing we dont know is how. The most crucial part of the Order's rebirth lies in ascertaing the truth as to what happened to Mace Windu. I've heard rumors that he survived the fall. If he did, would he help Luke rebuild the Order? Also, would he be more powerful than Luke or an equal?
