This is why I am co-GM. Sel keeps the interpersonal stuff going (because I'm such a good candidate for sociability ) while I make sure what people are doing is actually possible in the SW realm. I have had to let slide a few things in the spirit of things, but there are other times I put my foot down and say "physics says no"

I liked physics class in high school. Maybe I'll take it for the science class I have to take. If they'll allow it. Blah, blah, blah.

I took Physics. It was fun. Lightsabres are possible. What do you think a laser scalpel is? They just gotta make it BIGGER! MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

 

Except it's not just light. It's light suspended in a refractive confinement sheath that inverts on itself at a certain wavelength.

Granted that's not quite possible to our knowledge either, but the light in lightsabers is more of a byproduct. The true energy that does all the cutting and such is more of a plasmatic energy beam.

Actually Sel, Laser scalpels usually have a blade of sorts within to act as a guide for the laser. It's not quite the same as a lightsaber as they still need a physical core. Close though.

Reminds me, I actually heard they'd figured out a way to slow a bea of light to a stop. My first thought was: "Now, can they make one arc back in a closed loop that sustains itself that is in a device the size of a sword hilt?"
