I'd expect something reminiscent of an Oriental style.

In-part. I think it would make sense as the Jedi clearly have Oriental/Eastern influences. :)

That's an interesting question Rabs, but it's actually very difficult for me to picture Yoda with hair at all! Obviously he must have had more at some point, since we can see his little remaining wisps, but it's still hard for me to envision it. I know I didn't like the way Yaddle's hair looked in TPM, but of course just the puppet itself (for her and for the original TPM puppet Yoda) was awful, so maybe hair on a well-done CGI Yaddle would've looked better.

So I'll go with the "topknot" answer as well...

I agree. That hair and puppet were not good. On a CGI character it would've looked better I believe. Brown hair also didn't look good with the green. I thing black or white hair would look best.

Yes, I also agree about the color.

And I think we can all agree Yoda's hair did NOT look like this:p :

How many of Yoda's species do we see - and of those, how many besides Yaddle have hair?

Vandar Tokare looks a lot like Yoda:

And Minch looks a bit younger but only has hair on the back of his head:

There's one pic of a young Yoda, from the back - can't see much though:

Pictures of Yoda's people always depict their hair growing much like Klingons hair. From the middle of the top of the head to the back. This is why I've always pictured a young Yoda with a ponytail. I was under the impression that Vandar was old and had gone bald. Or perhaps he just liked the bald look and shaved his head. Yaddle is the only one I've ever seen with a full head of hair and I think that might add to the oddity of how it looks. Had it been depicted like the others it might have looked better.

Aside from being long - it is much like the others (or the Klingons) in growing from the back:

It looks like she just has a really big forehead, though. I think it's the fact that it's just a really bad puppet. I read somewhere that is was the Yoda puppet with a wig. If that's true that would explain why it doesn't look right.

I think we have established one thing for sure. Puppets, when it comes to Yoda and his people, no longer cut it.

I still prefer the OT puppet over cgi.

I have to say, I like the OT puppet fine for what it is (and I would never want them to try to tinker with it by somehow going back and replacing it in those films with a CGI Yoda--that would just be weird to me), but I really like the greater depth of facial expression (especially in and around his eyes!) and expanded range of movement that Yoda has with the CGI version, and if Yoda ever appears in a future movie (either as a Force ghost in the ST or a younger Yoda in some type of spinoff), I would want him to be CGI all the way.

I haven't seen the TPM special edition with the puppet replaced with cgi. Until I do I'll reserve judgment on which I prefer going forward. Generally my feelings about cgi vs practical fx are mixed.

Hard to compare 2 and 3 to 5 and 6 what with the way he flies around in aotc and rots. You could get a better comparison with the two versions of tpm.

I mean CGI Yoda in ep 1 looks just like CGI Yoda in eps 2 and 3. So if you think Yoda looks better in eps 2 and 3 than the the puppet from ep 1 then you'll like the change in ep 1 from puppet to CGI. But if you don't like CGI Yoda at all then you probably wont like the change. When it comes to the OT I think the Yoda puppet there Looks ten times better than puppet Yoda from ep 1 but not better than CGI Yoda from eps 2 and 3. With that said I wouldn't want Yoda in the OT changed to CGI.

I should give Mark a lot of credit for what he did in his scenes with Yoda. He did a lot to make me believe that rubber was flesh.

Well said, Frank. I prefer Yoda in ESB probably always will. CGI is simply hollow.
