Thinking about the conduct of (ground-) warfare in the GFFA is an on-/of-going project of mine (when I have the time). Part of that is wondering, how the different factions would have fared in certain scenarios.

So lets have a look at the battle of Hoth with the New Republic of Legends in the role of the Empire (which means they are the assaulting force).

The time is one year before the events of Vector Prime.

The assets of the New Republic (to mirror DeathSquadron) are one Viscount-class Star Defender and five MC80/MC90-cruisers. For ground-warfare the New Republic can use what army-equipment it has at that time (whatever that may be) in the amount, that can be carried by the six space-ships.

The defenders (a criminal organisation/local insurgents/imperial left-overs take your pick) have established a base on Hoth, protected by the following assets:
    - a theatre-shield, that covers a diameter of fifty kilometers, is strong enough to repel any bombardement by the six NR-vessels in orbit and prevents the use of the NR of its starfighters as long as its up.
-a piece of surface-to-space-artillery, that can endanger capital ships the size of ISDs and MC-cruisers,
    - twelve snow-speeders
    - the equivalent of a regiment of troops (some two-thousand men) entrenched around the base armed with blaster-rifles as well as anti-infantry- and light anti-vehicle-guns comparable to those used by the rebels in the original battle.
    - for the evacuation the defenders employ a dozen Action-V-transports http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Action_V_transport and two dozen StarVipers as escorts http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/StarViper-class_attack_platform .

The NR-objective is the capture of the base and the leadership of the defenders.

    No Force-users are involved.

    How do they fare?
