Indak Fervse?lya soon learned that it was not an easy task acquiring a starfighter, be it from local Bothan defense forces or the New Republic military. Every channel he tried to use was met with resistance. At one point his brother Lerzk received a stern call from Admiral Pakric Nelus, the commander in chief of the Third Fleet. He was informed that the New Republic military did not intend to get involved in a local election, and that further attempts to acquire a fighter would be met with continued refusal.

The one bright spot in the following day was the meeting with the informant. The meeting was set to happen at 2100 hours local time. The Industrial District would be quite empty by then, save for a few security officers and late evening shift people like janitors and service technicians.

Lerzk borrowed a unmarked black hovercar to transport his brother to the meeting. Upon reaching the abandoned warehouse, the informant appeared from out of a shadow. He walked over to the driver side compartment of the hovercar and tapped on the window.

Lerzk rolled down the window and looked at the informant.

    ?Solar?, said Lerzk.

    The informant responded. ?Flare?.

With the codes authenticated, a aide exited the passenger side of the speeder and opened the door for Fervse?lya. The informant circled around the car to that side and nodded at the Bothan. Pulling the hood off his head, he revealed himself to be a human male.

?I am Jaemus?, the informant said simply. ?I understand you are looking for damaging information on Draeks Joran?ki.?

Before Indak responded, he activated his thermal imaging lenses on the glasses he wore, looking Jaemus up and down, checking for a bug of some kind. If he was wearing one, it would be a different temperature than the rest of his body.

Then, as an extra precaution, he pulled out a device that appeared to be a commlink and switched it on, but it was not a commlink, it was a magnetic anomaly pulser, a standard piece of equipment among paranoid politicians. Its magnetic waves would damage any electronic devices in the immediate area: including commlinks and small listening devices.

After several seconds, Indak swithced off the device and pocketed it, "Forgive me, but I am not a fool. Now, yes, I am interested. What do you have?"

Kalnar walked down the hall to the breifing room. If Colonel Kre'pek and the Commander of Halo Squadron were summoned by the commanding officer of the base, this had to be big. At least big for around here. Not much had been happening since the slavers backed off, and now something was happening. Kalnar doubted it would be the Vong, but he knew that it was important.

Kalnar walked into the briefing room to find everyone getting ready for the breifing. He too ka seat next to his flight and smiled at them reassuringly, hoping they weren't worried. He knew his pilots were strong, but with everything happening lately, people tended to be pessimistic.

Shortly after the pilots of Knave and Halo Squadron arrived, the briefing began. Standing in the center of a raised platform was General Ayk Urgaht, the Gran commander of Flarion Base. Flanking him on either side were Knave Squadron leader Colonel Kre?pek and Halo Squadron leader Major Artanis. The lights dimmed as the briefing began.

The center holoprojector suddenly came to life, highlighting a sizable chuck of the Mid Rim and Outer Rim, stretching from Kashyyyk to Mon Calamari to Hutt Space.

?Your patience in defending Kashyyyk has been admirable, but the time has come for us to see how you pilots do in a serious combat situation. I wish I could say that the enemy we were sending you up against was only slavers or pirates, but that is not the case today.? The general paused.

?Yet, the enemy you will be flying against is not the Yuuzhan Vong either.? This drew a muffled response from several pilots, who seemed perplexed that this mission was not going to take them into the fray against the New Republic?s most dire threat.

General Urgaht silenced the small talk with a look. ?Fleet Intelligence has located a mid-sized deep space facility on the border of Imperial-held Hutt Space, near the conquered world of Toydaria.? A small star on the map started blinking a bright green.

?Intel has reason to believe that this base is actually the start of a rogue Imperial warlord who is setting up shop in light of all the troubles the Empire has been facing lately.?

This came as no surprise to the pilots. The news vids were full of reports on the current situation in the Empire. While Emperor Iaius sat in his Imperial Palace on Coruscant, his best general was rumored to be fomenting a coup attempt. Furthermore, many Imperial worlds had been experiencing large-scale riots and crises, making the situation ripe for a ambitious officer to stake out on his own and go warlord.

?A spy drone from NRI detected a concentration of three capital ships currently at the base. One was confirmed to be a VicStar Deuce, while the other two are believed to be modified Star Galleons that were converted into warships.?

The Gran general turned towards Colonel Kre?pek. ?If you would continue please colonel.?

The Bothan commander of Knave Squadron took the podium. ?This facility is still in its formative stage. We believe that if we can hit it hard now that we stand a chance of stopping this warlord before he gets a chance to expand. Fleet Command has ordered Knave and Halo squadrons to assault the base. We move out in three hours. Any questions??

The meeting with the informant proved to be nothing more than attempt by a laid off campaign worker to smear the name of Draeks Joran?ki. Left with nothing to use as dirt against the prominent Bothan Assembly speaker, Indak Fervse?lya watched his poll numbers begin to steadily decline. His support with the Bothan defense forces plummeted ever since his meeting with General Ruk?trem. His support did remain strong however amongst business leaders in the Bothan defense industry, especially corporations like Bothawui Star Works, the maker of the world?s powerful Assault Cruisers.

Still, as days turned into weeks, it became apparent that the election would go in favor of Joran?ki. When his poll numbers slid to below 40%, Indak?s brother Lerzk decided to call together a few of his brothers top advisors and hold a meeting.

?Brother? began Lerzk, ?I think we need to accept the fact that we are not going to win the senate seat. Now is the time for us to think how we can preserve what influence we have left.?

It was a very Bothan way of thinking. While the election had turned out bad, that did not mean that Indak could not retain some of his power base and influence. As a member of the A?lya clan, both brothers had the example of Borsk Fey?lya to follow. The Bothan had waited patiently over the years, slowly accumulating power and influence until he was in a position to run for the highest office in the New Republic.

The various members of Indak?s election advisory board nodded in agreement. One spoke up almost immediately. His fur rippled as he spoke.

?Sir, your brother is right. We can yet gain something from this election. Your supporters in the defense industry give you a certain amount of clout still, despite our falling poll numbers. We need to figure out how to use this to your advantage.?

"Commander, I have a question. When we return, are we going to have a chance to celebrate our victory on a beach near this area? I'll buy drinks?" Kalnar smiled at his commander and realized the base commander was there too. Sithspawn! Did I just say that out loud? "Uh, I have no further questions, sir." Kalnar sat back, looking away. He had the rank of Lieutenant, he didn't want to screw that up after working hard to get it.

New Republic Fleet HQ, Special Ops Division, Mon Calamari

Commodore Kevin Feldman was a veteran of years in service to the Rebel Alliance and the New Republic. A member of the Fleet Special Operations Division, Kevin was one of the officers that the New Republic depended on to perform vital missions. A native of Corellia, the man was know for his boisterous personality and love of gambling.

A admiral with the FSOP sent a message to Commodore Feldman, informing him of his latest assignment. He was to lead a team of four men to the Corporate Sector, a ally of the New Republic?s. The Corporate Sector had the misfortune of being behind the Yuuzhan Vong lines, making communication with the sector spotty at best. Given all the recent financial support that the region had been giving the New Republic, High Command ordered that a team be sent to the region to ascertain whether it had fallen to the Vong or if it was just cut off.

A YT-2000 freighter, the Blue Ghost, was to be their transportation for the mission. A modified freighter owned and operated by Fleet Specials Ops, the craft was a veteran of several missions. Armed with two dual laser turrets, a ion cannon, and a pair of concussion missile launchers, the vessel was capable of dealing with most small craft it encountered.

The admiral made it clear that there was no time to delay. The team was to head to the Corporate Sector ASAP and make contact with the governmental authorities there.

nsper7, you can take it from here. Head off to the Corporate Sector and TAG LS_A as soon as you jump to hyperspace. He will update you from there.

    IC: Commodore Kevin Feldman

New Republic Fleet HQ, Special Ops Division, Mon Calamari

Commodore Feldman was as ready as he was going to be. He knew the stakes: the CSA, it appeared, was suffering much worse than even the New Republic. It all made perfect sense; they were right in the projected Yuuzhan Vong invasion corridor.

Now, Feldman nad his team were being deployed to check things out. This too made perfect sense. Of course, they would be going in undercover. Feldman, instead of wearing a New Republic officer's uniform, wore the standard vest, shirt and pants that any good smuggler captain would wear. At his hip, a DL-44 blaster pistol, made famous by many great smugglers, including Han Solo.

Each of his four agents: Pilgath Falner (human male), Weasnan Andorvic (human male), Delonaga'na (Twi'lekki female), and Bradley Valmont (human male); were briefed on the mission. Each of them was undercover. Falner, in actuality a sniper, was the first mate aboard the Blue Ghost; Weasnan, a top-notch slicer and techy, was traveling as the navigator; and Valmont, a former bounty hunter and known for his extreme marksmanship and melee skills, is the cargo specialist.

None of them wore NR insignia or uniforms; hidden in a very special compartment aboard the YT-2000 were papers in case identities actually had to be confirmed. Also hidden abaord the freighter were heavy weapons (including explosives, repeater blasters, carbines and a sniper rifle for Falner). It was hoped that this mission would be a simple intel gathering operation, but they rarely turned out simple.

Feldman and his motley crew boarded the YT-2000, closed it up and took off (Feldman piloted of course), having special clearance from Mon Cal control. The less people that saw the Blue Ghost in the vicinity of the Republic capital, the better. In fact, the hyperspace trip (which could be accomplished in one straight shot), would be broken up with several switchbacks and reroutes to help insure anonymity.

All these thoughts crowded in Feldman's mind as he pulled the lever and entered hyperspace for the first part of this (hopefully not perilous) journey.

OOC: Hope you don't mind me naming the team, but I thought it would add spice to post. Also, if you want to, LS_A, we can just have your response post assume all the sequential hyperjumps were successful and without trouble and that the Blue Ghost is arring in/near CSA territory.

    Commander Smith Bor
    Orbiting Docking Station, Mon Calamari

The crowd of rushing people had since dissipated from the hangar. Kegan had fallen from the first fight and there was little news that the members of Savior Squadron could find on the second attack. The Yuuzahn Vong also supposedly attacked Dellat. They were making advances. Advances that were forcing the Republic?s hand to get into combat with an enemy that they were only just learning about.

Leaving his other 11 members of the rookie-squadron Savior behind in the hangar to be sure their ships were being taken care of, Smith Bor walked briskly down the hall. He was stopping every commander he could pick out, trying to get information on what was happening. The news net was covering some stuff, perhaps that would be one of getting some of the details of everything they were missing from being in the oribital docking station about Mon Calamari.

The young commander sighed as he walked before another news net screen to try and see what was going out there.

The computer terminal relayed a wealth of information to young Commander Smith Bor of Savior Squadron. The main news was still on the evacuation of Dellalt. With most of the New Republic's units in the region fighting at Kegan or assigned to the defense of worlds like Centares and Mon Calamari, High Command made the decision to evacuate the lightly populated world of Dellalt. Little information on the progress of the evacuation was coming in, though already some small and medium sized evacuation transports began to arrive at Mon Calamari. Chief of State Jenica Belami was seen on the newsgrids meeting with individuals coming off those transports and offering them words of encouragement. While the Chief of State was still fairly recent to the office, no one would argue that she was a caring person. Her record in caring for refugees from Elom and the Tion Cluster was common knowledge, as was her taking the lead in rebuilding efforts on Bothawui, which had never fully recovered from a Imperial attack several years back.

Switching to a private New Republic military station, Bor read reports that Commodore Hirikantu was still holding position over Centares, protecting the world while covering a key trade route. Rumors were slipping in that Admiral Rancis?s battle for Kegan was going well, but those reports were yet to be confirmed.

A middle aged Sullustan captain approached Commander Bor. ?Commander, you are ordered to take a shuttle over to the Defiance. You are expected for a meeting with Admiral Arboga.?

It was not every day that a young pilot was called to a meeting with the Supreme Commander of the New Republic military onboard the fleet flagship. The MC-90 Star Cruiser was currently in orbit above Mon Calamari with a sizable portion of the First Fleet.

?There is a shuttle waiting for you in the main hangar. The pilot has already been instructed to take you there.?

The various members of Savior Squadron and Halo Squadron held there breath, waiting to see what the reaction of the General Urgaht, Colonel Kre?pek, and Major Artanis would be. For a few moments the room was completely silent.

Colonel Kre?pek was about to say something when General Urgaht laid a hand on his shoulder. The Gran general focused his three eyes on the young Mon Calamarian pilot for a few moments, before letting loose a deep, booming laugh.

Suddenly the whole briefing room felt the tensions relieve, as all present laughed along with the general.

?Young man?, began the general, ?When you get back, I will be the first to expect a drink on the beach. I know a Wookiee bar tender who makes a mean Bantha Blaster.?

Major Artanis stepped forward. ?Alright people, the chrono is ticking. All squadrons will be launching within the hour. I expect all of you to be ready and waiting.?

Colonel Kre?pek nodded. ?This briefing is closed. I will see you all on the hangar deck.?

The trio of officers exited the room, leaving the pilots. As soon as they exited, a young human male from Halo Squadron spoke up. ?Well, now we get to see which squadron can amount more kills. The great debate of which is better can now be decided.?

This drew a round chuckles from the pilots in both squadrons. A Knave pilot spoke up. ?Well, you X-Wing jocks may have an edge in a dogfight, but we will see who vapes that VicStar Deuce. I for one know that I would like to see a red VicStar painted on the side of my fighter.?

    Commander Smith Bor
    Orbital Docking Station, Mon Calamari

?In other news, an untold number of refuges have been arriving at local spaceports because of the recent attacks of the Yuuzahn Vong invasion force into the core worlds. Chief of State Jenica Belami is seen here greeting some of the passengers as some of the first transports unloaded,? kept on the report.

The young commander sat before the newscaster as he saw the new Chief of State?s encouraging face and offering words to up build those broken spirits tromping down the gangplank.

She seems to be doing quite the job. That?s something this Republic needs if we are to survive anything from this invasion. If she is as sure and capable as she presents herself, I am pleased to have her leading the New Republic.

With a few quick strokes, Bor had the private military news before him. There were suggestions that Kegan was holding up well and that the battle may be in the Republic?s favor.

Well, that?s good news. To lose so many on the first strike, we?d better do something.

As he was starting to check on the local defenses of Mon Cal a middle aged Sullustan captain came up behind him.

?Commander,? he said speaking to him. ?You are ordered to take a shuttle over to the Defiance. You are expected for a meeting with Admiral Arboga.?

Disengaging the private military news source before him, the tanned-skinned young man stood before the captain.

?There is a shuttle waiting for you in the main hangar. The pilot has already been instructed to take you there,? came the voice.

?Aye, sir. I will depart immediately,? Smith replied. He gave a curt nod, placed his arms behind his back, and walked out of the room quickly.

Reports he had received from Command had told him of Arboga?s military successes and Smith well knew of the Supreme Commander?s position.

It?s an honor to be having any kind of audience with such a man.

The shuttle that was waiting for him departed quickly and with efficiency. Smith boarded without more than a word of introduction and the pilot was already finishing pre-flight checks.

Outside the window, Smith?s blue eyes caught sight of the ship he knew to be Arboga?s. The Defiance was a MC-90 Star Cruiser and stood surrounded by many other capitals ships belonging to the First Fleet that hung in orbit over Mon Calamari. He fixed them firmly on that sight. There was hope for the New Republic, but it looked slim. Smith hoped that Savior Squadron would be able to live up their name and their calling.

The pilot guided the shuttle towards the Defiance, weaving slowing throughout many of the warships of the First Fleet that were in formation around it. Traffic into and out of the fleet flagship was always heavy, with officers coming and going from the planet below and the various other warships scattered above. Several smaller frigates and corvettes hung close to the cruiser, while several other larger warships followed at a greater distance. Several other lumpy Mon Calamari cruisers were visible, as well as a pair of distinct arrowhead warships. Star Destroyers were not common in the New Republic fleet, but the few that had been captured were put to good use.

Eventually the shuttle was cleared for docking, as the pilot guided his shuttle deftly into the crowded hangar. Dozens of shuttles and small transports filled the hangar, as well as the various starfighters that were assigned to the ship. Finding a spot to land was tricky, but the pilot was well trained.

The pilot lowered the ramp immediately, motioning to Commander Bor that it was time to disembark. ?Time to get off commander. I am due to pick up a pair of commodore?s off the Star Destroyer Emancipator, and I don?t think they will be happy if I am late.?

Waiting for the leader of Savior Squadron at the bottom of the ramp was a familiar face. A handsome man, but one who would not stand out much, save for a patch on his shoulder that identified him as a pilot in Rogue Squadron. Upon a closer inspection, one would see that this was not just any Rogue, but Colonel Daniel Brodi, the leader of the famed fighter unit.

Kalnar walked out onto the flight deck thirty minutes later, donning his oddly shaped helmet. He smiled at his flight looking over their E-wings, making sure things are in working order. Excited wasn't enough to describe how Kalnar felt. He had already blown up from the joy of the thought of a real mission, but he felt something tugging ar the back of his mind. Something that wasn't right.

Lenin walked around Kalnar's E-wing and saw what she recognized as Kalnar's frown as he looked over the checklist. "You okay, Chief?" she asked, putting her hand on his upper arm, putting a certain amount of worry in her voice.

"Yeah, just something doesn't feel right. Keep your gaurd up out there. Please." He turned away from his checklist and stared at her. To his eyes, she was beautiful. Maybe not like one of his own species, but she was caring. One of the few who cared for him.

"I'll be sure to. You do the same." She looked up at him with big eyes. "I love you."

Kalnar nodded at her. "I know. Now get ready. We're leaving soon."

Lenin gave him a hug and a kiss on the big forehead of the Mon Calamari and waved him good bye. Kalnar loaded up onto his fighter and started the engines, waiting for the signal to launch.

    Commander Smith Bor
    Space above Mon Calamari

Magnificence in every maneuver. The short flight over to the flagship of First Fleet lent it self so well to Smith?s eyes. The clamor of ships that hung together seemed to be sitting in the middle of a dance between monsters. Creatures of destruction that served the powers of peace.

The floating battleships were surrounded by dozens of small shuttles presumably running the same errand as the vehicle Bor sat within.

The well-trained pilot joined in the ballet of sorts in the emptiness of space. Pure beauty that took Smith?s mind away from the meeting with the Admiral. Important though it was, it was refreshing to reflect upon something less intense than the training, the preparing, and the fighting that would be done. It had been weeks since the young commander had time to rest. The first mission had been easy but there was still the necessity of command that was taxing on the brain. Smith rubbed his eyes with his right hand. The first moments of strain were catching up with him. It wouldn?t do to be weary during a meeting with the Supreme Commander. With a deep sigh Smith willed to be awake and ready for the task at hand.

?Time to get off commander,? said the pilot. ?I am due to pick up a pair of commodore?s off the Star Destroyer Emancipator, and I don?t think they will be happy if I am late.?

?Surely not,? Smith replied standing. ?Thank-you for the ride.?

The ramp had already fallen to the ground. At the bottom was a friendly face that of Rogue Squadron?s esteemed leader, Colonel Daniel Brodi.

Bor smiled at the leader and saluted.

?It is good to see you again, Colonel,? he said. ?I trust you?ve been well since our last meeting.?

Colonel Brodi smiled back at the young pilot. While Commander Bor did not know it, the Rogues had been greatly impressed with the performance of his Savior Squadron. It was Brodi who brought Savior to the attention of Admiral Tokmek Arboga, Supreme Commander of the New Republic Defense Force.

?Yeah, all is good commander. We got some down time for a bit, though we were sent out on a recon mission in support of the Liberator. Didn?t find much, though we did come across a squadron of skips. We managed to vape em, though two of my pilots were hit and forced to go EV.?

A shadow of sorrow crossed Brodi?s face, but faded as quickly as it had first appeared. ?Fortunately, both pilots were recovered and are healing in the sick bay on the Defiance.?

Brodi glanced at his chrono. ?Well, we better get off to that meeting. Arboga just arrived within the last few hours himself, so he is a bit busy getting settled in to his flagship. I imagine that he is far more comfortable here than in the dark War Room deep below Fleet Command.?

The signal was given, with Colonel Kre?pek taking the lead. Suddenly all the fighters of Knave and Halo Squadrons began to rise off the deck and head for the large opening in the hangar bay. Dozens of support personnel and mechanics cleared the area, while flight controllers cleared each fighter to launch one by one.

As the mass of fighter headed spaceward, a blocky vessel came into view. A Quasar Fire-class cruiser-carrier, the vessel was one of the most common fighter carriers in the New Republic navy. It was obviously to be the transportation for the mission.

?Knave Squad, this is Lead? began Kre?pek. ?The Nodriam has cleared us for docking. We will follow the Halo?s into the ships hangar. Lets get on board so that we can get on to our mission.?

It was a sentiment that the members of both Halo and Knave Squadron?s shared. While duty on a paradise like Kashyyyk was coveted, it was hard to sit around and rest while their fellow pilots were on the front lines fighting and dying for the ideals of the New Republic. Now, at last, these pilots were given their chance.

"All right three flight, we'll be last ones in and first to leave. Quicker to the action." Kalnar sent a smile over the comlink. If the mission went as planned, this shouldn't be too rough of a ride, and he knew his pilots' skills were good. Not the best, but enough to survive.

The pilots of three flight landed last in the docking bay. Kalnar lifted the canopy of his starfighter and waited for instructions.

Outer edges of the Corporate Sector

There was one thing smugglers and special operations officers held in common regarding transportation through hyperspace: An unexpected exit was always an unwelcome one. Smugglers dreaded capture by the many law enforcement agencies scattered throughout the galaxy, particularly those controlled and operated by larger governments such as the Galactic Empire and the New Republic, or, in this particular case, the Corporate Sector Authority.

Lurching out from lightspeed with no forewarning, the crew of the YT-2000 freighter, Blue Ghost knew all to well that their shortcoming was caused by an interdiction field. And yet there was no sign of an Interdiction Cruiser in sight, or evidence of such a craft within the range encompassed by the ship's sensors.

Outside, drifting within the cold darkness of space was a lone Marauder Corvette. Seemingly surrounding it, and the Blue Ghost, was a cluster of alien ships now only too familiar to the members of the New Republic military. Three Yuuzhan Vong cruisers and a destroyer were visibly hanging within the space around the Ghost, with their accompanying clusters of coralskippers flying patrol further outside their line.

"State your destination and purpose within the Corporate Sector," came a clear voice, spoken in perfect basic.

The message came directly from the communications officer aboard the Marauder Corvette, Pirate's Bane. There was no sign of hostility from the vessel, or from the alien craft. They were merely guarding one of many checkpoints along commonly used routes into the sector.

I am pleased to see that you went in undercover with an appropriate vessel and crew. The use of 'switchbacks and reroutes' is also impressive. Both the opening scenario and the way it was responded to were remarkable. I appreciate the high quality you've both delivered and it's only just the beginning. Excellent work, really.

OOC: Thank you LS_A for the compliment.

    IC: Commodore Kevin Feldman

YT-2000 Light Freighter Blue Ghost, En Route to Corporate Sector Authority

Feldman almost laughed aloud, his mission was already accomplished. The Yuuzhan Vong, most likely with the help of traitors such as those aboard the Pirate's Bane, had conquered, or at least debilitated, the Corporate Sector. The commodore had seconds before he might well be blasted into space dust and he had to do something.

Then it clicked in his mind. He was an infiltrator, what better group to infiltrate that the Yuuzhan Vong? A glance back towards his cockpit crew conveyed that they should shut up and play along.

He activated holocomm, a look of calmness, almost happiness, on his face, "Thank the stars we found you. Those fools in the Republic were onto us. We were trying to gather supplies and information, but they got too close. We had to high-tail it out of there. We were lucky the freighter wasn't damaged."

Feldman paused, "Listen, I'm no fool. I know who is going to come out ahead in this war. The Republic is weak and ripe for the taking. Can we dock with the Bane? My crew is tired and getting fed up with each other's wonderful company. Besides, we can coordinate operations better then. If you want, you can board us first, just to make sure I am on the up-and-up. I'm shutting down engines right now..."

Although he maintained a calm exterior, on the inside he was nervous as hell. If those guys didn't trust him, or decided he was a liability, this would be one fast trip. On the other hand, if this worked, he could learn more about current Vong operations, maybe even disrupt them.

Slowly, Feldman pulled back on the collective throttle, the sublight drives going from throbbing to dead silence. The YT-2000 was still, although it was at full-power for all systems, sans the engines of course. Silently, the commodore prayed his ruse would work.

At first there was only an ominous silence. Coralskippers continued to patrol the area and the Marauder hung as if dead in space. No sign of movement came from the larger Yuuzhan Vong vessels, while the silence lingered.

A full minute passed before the Marauder's comm officer responded. "Stand by," was all that was said, as a pair of Authority IRDs were launched from the Corvette. The two vessels flew out past the freighter, ready and waiting for any surprises that might drop out from the apparent safety of hyperspace.

After an unusually long pause, the comm officer, finally receiving intructions from his captain, resumed contact with the Ghost. "Follow these coordinates to a nearby docking station." The crew of the freighter seemed friendly, a little too friendly in fact. "There you will receive what assistance we can provide, from repairs to decent accomodation." A short pause. "You have a brief, but open window before the interdiction field is active once more."

The transmission ended and the pair of IRDs returned to the ship that spawned them.

Unlike the trusting CSA, the Yuuzhan Vong kept close, suspicious watch on the wayward freighter. They were wary of the infidels and would not hesitate to destroy the creatures aboard the abonimable vessel, regardless of the smugglers' apparent neutrality, should reason arise.

Feldman nodded, visible over the holocomm transmission, "Thank you. We will proceed to those coordinates immediately. Over and out."

After shutting down the holocomm transmission, he looked at Weasnan Andorvic, "We have the coordinates?"

The navigator/slicer for the undercover group nodded affirmatively. That was all the commodore needed to know, "Input them and let's go. I don't want trouble...yet."

Seconds passed as the coordinates were being setup. Now out of the accusatory glare of the Pirate's Bane, Feldman ran the back of his hand across his forehead, wiping sweat off. Boy, that was close; of course, they weren't out of the rancor's clutches yet. Quite the opposite in fact, they were headed straight towards it, hoping to poke its eyes out and spit in its mouth.

"As soon as we're ready, punch it!" Feldman ordered. The words were barely out of his mouth when the stars seemed to elongate in endless tunnel and, because of the settings of the inertial compensator, the commodore was pressed backwards slightly, but he could take it.

    They were in hyperspace...

As far as space stations were concerned, this one was not exceptionally large. That said, the docking station was large enough to accomodate scores of freighters and starcraft of various shape, model and design. It consisted of several circular landing pads that spread out from the station's centre, connected to the main bulk of the structure by durasteel spokes, as if part of an ancient wheel's inner skeletal base.

None of the crew aboard the YT-2000 freighter recognised the docking station's design. It appeared to have been heavily modified and included gun emplacements on-station and remote satellite emplacements also. Blue Ghost was expected, having been cleared for approach before it even arrived at its destination. The ship's captain was instructed to land at pad eleven, where the crew would be greeted by one of the station's staff.

Fighters, cruisers, freighters and passenger transports flew in organised paths in and outbound from the station. Some arrived just as the Ghost had, the majority of the ships in system belonging to smugglers, or providing transport, whether of goods or sentient beings. There was no sign of the Yuuzhan Vong.

When Commodore Kevin Feldman landed, just as intructed, he was greeted by a smart-casual dressed man of about twenty five. The man wore very low cut dark brown boots, black pants and a white-yellow shirt. He offered an easy smile and firm handshake. "Welcome to the Corporate Sector," he said cheerfully. "Please, follow me through customs."

The man had no wish to search the newly arrived ship, but his duty was to check that anything these people carried upon them was not beyond regulations of what was accepted. There had been no record of the Ghost having ever come through to this station in the past, but that was not unusual or at all worthy of suspicion.

"I've been assigned to act as your guide for the duration of your time here. You will not be here too long, I assure you, but it's my job to make your stay, however brief, a pleasant one. Once we're through customs I'll be able to arrange entertainment," he smiled, checked at his datapad, quickly reading his notes, "accomodation and ... repairs." He tucked his datapad back into his oversized pants' pocket, and hoped his supervisor hadn't been watching him via holocam. The last thing he needed right now was a lecture for forgetting what it was that these newcomers had requested upon arrival.

The customs check is essentially designed for two purposes. 1) They want to ensure you're carrying no unregistered or unusual weapons. 2) An estimated time of stay within the sector will be required, as well as a specific destination and purpose of visitation.

    NRS Defiance, Mon Calamari orbit

Colonel Brodi lead the young commander from Savior Squadron down the long corridors of the admiral?s flagship. Numerous crewbeings and officers crowded the vessel. A warship was always a hive of activity during wartime, yet this was ten times the case when the vessel in question was flagship of the New Republic Supreme Commander.

Smith Bor may have been slightly surprised to see the way Colonel Brodi strolled right past the pair of New Republic fleet troopers that stood at attention on either side of the admiral?s door. Neither trooper made any attempt to inquire about his intentions or stop him from passing. Each offered the colonel a swift salute before returning to attention.

Before entering the admiral?s office, Brodi smiled at the trooper on his left. ?How is that leg healing up Teral? I hope that little smashball game didn?t tweak your knee to much??

The trooper, still standing at attention, allowed a small smile to crease his face. ?No sir, the knee is fine. Just tell your Rogue?s that next time I will be on the lookout for ?questionable? sportsmanship.?

Smiling, Colonel Brodi led Commander Bor into the antechamber that connected the front door of Arboga?s office to the door that entered the room itself.

The office was fairly cramped, like all rooms on a warship. Much of this feeling was alleviated however by the large viewport behind the admiral?s desk, which offered a breathtaking view of Mon Calamari below. A quartet of armchairs were arranged in a half circle in front of the admiral?s desk, the back of each emblazoned with the symbol of the New Republic.

As the pair of officers entered the office, Admiral Tokmek Arboga looked up from his desk, putting down a datapad on a large pile he had on the desk?s corner.

Brodi snapped to attention and gave a swift salute. ?Reporting as ordered admiral.? He turned to the man on his left. ?May I introduce Commander Smith Bor, CO of Savior Squadron.?

Arboga stood from his desk and walked over to the man. ?A pleasure to make your acquaintance commander. I understand from Daniel here that you and your pilots have made quite an impression on him.?

Hyperspace, NRS Nodriam, heading towards Toydaria

The pilots of Knave and Halo squadron dismounted their fighters and followed their squadron leaders into a small briefing room adjacent to the hangar bay. The Nodriam made the jump to hyperspace immediately after the last fighter was stowed away. That meant that the pilots had a two out wait until their arrivals at the region of space near Toydaria were the warlord base was located.

Once all the pilots had gathered into the chairs, Colonel Kre?pek began the pre-battle briefing.

?Fleet Intel has given me it?s information on this base?, began the Bothan colonel. ?The facility itself is a collection of three XQ5 platforms, serving as the command and resupply center for the facility. The shipbuilding structures are not yet completed, though they consist of a pair of Telgorn Corporation shipyards.?

Major Artanis received a nod from Kre?pek, signaling him to begin his portion of the briefing.

?The VicStar Deuce has been identified as the Corrupter, which NRI confirmed went rogue from the Empire precisely two standard months ago. She carries two squadrons of TIE Interceptors, as well as a pair of assault shuttles. There is also a pair of modified Star Galleons that the base has been using for resupply efforts. Together, these ships present a threat to the region that Command wants eliminated.?

    IC: Commodore Kevin Feldman

Outer edges of the Corporate Sector

Feldman listeneed as the attendant spoke, following him along the spoke that led from the landing pad to the main hub of the space station. The commodore had been through more than enough customos checkpoints to know how to play this one.

His four agents, each wearing a blaster pistol at their hip, followed Kevin and the attendant, glancing around, but not saying anything. It was somewhat confusing; from their ingress point, it had appeared that the Yuuzhan Vong had seized the area, but here, there was no sign of them. Then there was the fact that everything appeared externally alright; no sign of torture or mass destruction. Had the CSA so easily capitulated that the Vong had given them relatively little attention?

"I understand completely," Commodore Feldman said, "my men and I are carrying blaster pistols, but we'll be more than willing to register them with the CSA."

He paused, "I noticed a small Yuuzhan Vong armada on the way in. Tell me, coming from Republican territory, I have not had much contact with them. What are they like? I have heard that some group called the Peace Brigade allows people like myself, who understand who is going to win this little war, to serve the upcoming victors. Is that correct?"

He spoke nonchalantly, almost matter-of-factly, as though he were stating a truth that was widely accepted and easy to understand. They key here was to make this seem so natural. Feldman, realizing his own galactic government was going to fail, was trying to curry favor with the winning side. Nothing unusual about that.

Now that he had gotten the prerequisites out of the way, he could start the friendly small-talk, "I don't think I've ever been aboard this kind of station, and I have seen them all. What's it like here? What kind of accomodations and...entertainment can I expect?"

Feldamn gave the attendant a playful rib and a wink.
