Really hoping that it's a "Dark Times" era (Between Episode III and IV) show. Filoni being invoved is great news. There are so many characters that could potentially be involved that it would admittedly have potential to be equal or better than TCW.

I really think that the new animated series will take place during the same time period as the ST. Most likely the new series will come out after EpVII. If so, then it will cover the time immediately before EpVII or between VII and VIII.

 

Of course it will, everything non-ST related is being shelved.

 

I really hope the new show isn't in the ST era, once Ep. VII comes out we'll be getting enough of that.

 

I have to agree, I'd rather see a "Dark Times" era show, set between Ep. III and Ep. IV. Yet, I think Disney is indeed shelving anything that isn't in the ST era, at least for now.

 

Why can't they have like 3 or 4 different animated series going that tackle different timelines?

I also want this live action series. Who cares about the production costs. Game of Thrones has a $50million budget for 10 episodes, $5mil per episode.

Make a 10 episode series and there you go.

 

I'd really enjoy that, but my ideal series would be somewhere around the Knights of the Old Republic and Tales of the Jedi era (thousands of years before the films).

 

Make a show that focuses on a Stormtrooper that follows his life, full of very long inner monologues.

 

They should focus on the adventures of Gary the Stormtrooper then!

Look at the cost and scope of Game of Thrones. Star Wars has people on jet packs, lasers, and is way more visually intense overall. They could only do those scripts for that price if they were animated.

A live action Star Wars TV show would probably have to be 15 minutes long to be Star Wars and operate on Game of Thrones' budget.

 

Fair point, but weren't the estimated budget costs for an episode rumoured to be $5mil? I was just saying if Disney are concerned with how much a series would cost, make the seasons shorter.

Or make it in the same vein as Stargate or BSG. Those series looked way cool and probs didn't cost anywhere near $5mil an episode.

 

They were also made in Canada (or at least Stargate was) Regardless, 5 million an episode for a live-action show could work, but it would be easier to do animation. Animation for TV, live action for film.
