There's no actual rating for the books, of course, and NC-17 is not solely related to sex (e.g. Robocop's original cut was "X" for violence and not for sex).

Also, this has carried over to the NC-17 rating (see: Evil Dead's home video release).

Here's the actual definition:

This rating declares that the Rating Board believes this is a film that most parents will consider patently too adult for their youngsters under 17. No children will be admitted. NC-17 does not necessarily mean obscene or pornographic; in the oft-accepted or legal meaning of those words. The Board does not and cannot mark films with those words. These are legal terms for courts to decide. The reasons for the application of an NC-17 rating can be excessive violence, sex, aberrational behavior, drug abuse or any other elements which, when present, most parents would consider too strong and therefore off-limits for viewing by their children.

The complaint was against violence. I think Traitor was rated NC-17 because Jacen was naked for a good part of the book and there were some pretty graphic descriptions of death and carnage.

 

Just wondering, who here besides myself hates Danni?

 

No one. I've always maintained Traitor was NC-17 for it's graphic violence and torture, not for any lurid sexuality.

Though male nudity is usually a one-way ticket for NC-17land and Jacens shaved testes in the opening paragraphs would likely have done it as well.

 

I hate Danni. Really, I loathe her. Stereotypical blonde.
