The problem is, Franklin was saying that over two centuries ago during Prussian militant might and before German national unity. OZK is saying those things now, after two hundred years of immigrants have proven a strength of America and lessened our prejudices of the "other". OZK's comments were like a time warp.

No I didn't interpret it that way. Franklin comments were historical and based in a largely Anglo world. So he would have some views we would today consider backwards. OZK's comments were even worse because they came yesterday. People should know better. And yes it is old and dumb.
