Eh, the TPBs will be out usually within 3-6 months after the last issue of the arc is released, so that's how I go. I read the individual issues digitally, then buy the trades when those come out. :)

Oh, I'll be likely picking up the trades as well, and keep those on the shelf, and relegating the individuals to a box. Yes, Disney/Lucasfilm/Marvel/Del Rey is getting all my money.

This is after I dumped a HEFTY sum on going to Disney World the other week. Star Tours is awesome. I quite enjoyed seeing the Death Star under construction at Geonosis ;)

Lol, I haven't been there in years... which is odd, considering I live only a few hours south of Orlando, plus have good friends who work at the Disney parks and hotels who hook me up with free passes into the parks. I do need to get up there.

This is my attempt at the timeline/chronology of the new Star Wars universe, including all canon material (except novelizations/adaptations of existing works, since they don't really add any new story material... I know some may disagree with that, but the additions in the adaptations are usually so minimal they don't have any effect on the larger narrative... and as the Story Group themselves have said, the novelizations are canon except when they aren't... which indicates to me that the only stuff that's actually canon are the films--well, and everything else, but regarding the adaptations, the films override them, and in my opinion the adaptations are unnecessary in that regard).

    Anyway...

It includes all ten films (the three trilogies and The Clone Wars movie) in bold black text. Once titles are announced for Episodes XIII and IX and the spin off films, those will also be added.

The television series (The Clone Wars, Rebels) are in bold gray text.

The novels are in bold italicized blue text. Short stories are in italicized regular blue text.

And the comic books by Marvel (and the one canon Dark Horse tale, Darth Maul - Son of Dathomir) are in bold italicized green text.

Any future video games that are official canon will be included in bold red text.

Anything that hasn't been released yet is placed tentatively until its release, and is marked with ** to reflect that, followed by its listed release date in parentheses.

In some cases, I have broken up certain novels by chapter/part to account for passage of time (for instance, Star Wars - A New Dawn and Star Wars - Rebels: Servants of the Empire - Edge of the Galaxy), as well as the comic books by page number when necessary (like the Star Wars - Darth Vader #1 comic).

Learning Patience is now in circulation. i wondered what everyone's views were for placement.

As with what is likely to be a theme with these comics they are all very self contained with seemingly limited links to the series.

i wondered if because in this comic we see Ezra struggling with even to move the cups with the force, then it becomes early on and possible before Ring Race where we can see Ezra (with the help of Kanan) move an asteroid.

Updated the chart slightly. Placed 'Last Call At The Zero Angle' following the present comics, but prior to ESB, as the latest promo for it noted it took place in 'the classic era'. Will tweak as needed if more info becomes available.

I mentioned this in the Princess Leia thread, but I think it' worth placing here as well:

I love how it appears that we are going to have a very tight post-ANH narrative timeline for what's coming out right now in all media:

    1. Princess Leia (beginning with literally the final moment of ANH and moving onward in the moments following that)
    2. Heir to the Jedi
    3. Star Wars / Darth Vader

I wouldn't be surprised at all if the Princess Leia limited was replaced with a Han Solo limited that was parallel to the events in Leia. It seems Leia, Han, and Luke are off doing their own thing immediately after ANH, and the story launching Marvel's Star Wars is sort of their first reunited mission working together since the Death Star Escape.

This is very smart, having everything at the beginning packed in so tight. It keeps the ability for them to tell a continuing, planned out, and cohesive/coherent narrative over all media covering the next 3 years of story time.

For the creators to be able to do this with all of the Prequels/OT/CW/Rebels/TFA/Stand-Alone general knowledge available, as well as knowledge of what other work is being done by the other storytelling branches, and without needing to shoe-horn or allow for stories done in an earlier era, makes this particularly exciting from a narrative perspective for me.

The events in characterization in Tarkin, Rebels, and Darth Vader (with the new role for Tagge) have already, combined, made the Death Star Board Room scenes in ANH spark with far more tension for me.

The point: For those wondering, following the threads in the Story Group Canon material has already been quite rewarding for me as a Star Wars fan. And it's barely begun.

Just curious, do the mobile games even have enough story to be considered canon? I haven't tried any of them out....

Star Wars Commander does have a very, very loose story when playing the "campaign mode." I'm not sure if Galactic Defense has any story at all to speak of.

In any event, the canon status of the mobile games is...not entirely clear. Gamespot did an article about Commander, where the following is said:

Since we were already talking about story, I had to ask: is Star Wars: Commander going to be considered canon? After all, Disney and Lucasfilm said back in April that Star Wars games would be considered canonical going forward. The answer? Yes and no. While you'll encounter famous Star Wars icons like Han Solo and travel to places like Tatooine with its Tusken Raiders, those elements are of course canon, but the player-created situations are not.

"I think what we at Lucas....we have a story team that we work very closely here with," Lucasfilm executive producer Matt Fillbrandt says. "And I think games offer a unique opportunity for storytelling that you don't necessarily get of other, linear storytelling devices like books or TV shows or movies; which is exciting in that we have the opportunity have player choice like we have with this game. Am I going to be on the Rebel side or the Empire? So we don't really look at it from a canonical standpoint because the player is effectively making up their story and their experience."

That's what there is to go on. You'll meet plenty of people here who see that as confirmation that "elements" of the games, such as characters or vehicles featured in them, are canon; I'm sure plenty of people see that as confirmation of the opposite. Both sides can take something from it to support their view. The story group has been silent except for a non-answer from Leland on Twitter which didn't really help much. So in lieu of any other official clarification, we pretty much just have to take that and run with it the best we can.

Heir to the Jedi (prior to events of Marvel's Star Wars #1) and Servants of the Empire: Rebel in the Ranks (parallel to the 'Breaking Ranks' episode of Rebels) are both out today!

Princess Leia #1 (beginning in the closing moments of ANH) is out tomorrow.

    Enjoy!

    Question...

Do we know for a fact that episode 3 is 'exactly' 19 years before Yavin? By the previously established timeline, I believe it was about half way into year 19BBY, meaning it was closer to 19.5 years before Yavin... which would place the Empire day episode more like 4.5 BBY, and the start of the show was probably a much closer to exact 5BBY, this would mean the switch from 5-4BBY happened before Empire day, probably very early on...

Now, to compare that with the post Episode I dating scheme... as far as I know, Episode 3 probably was exactly 13 years after Episode I, but is Episode IV exactly 32 years after it? I believe the idea of Empire Day in Rebels being 28 years later from Ep I should be accurate. With Ep IV, it could be closer to 32.5 in reality (which can still be labeled as year 32, I think?)

These are issues I'd like to see addressed at some point, and why I enjoyed having a somewhat more precise chronology in the old EU. We know that the clone wars lasted 3 years almost to the day, so the gap between 2 and 3 is clear, but how do the other films relate to that?

No, we don't. The canon timeline is not yet that detailed. We basically have rough dates for everything right now. We know ANH happened "19 years after ROTS," for example, but a greater degree of detail than that doesn't exist yet except in a scant few cases. Frankly, it's not entirely clear yet if the canon timeline will even use the calendar developed for the EU or if something new will develop.

It seems that Heir to the Jedi takes place closer to ESB than it does to ANH.

HttJ is confirmed as taking place in this placement, weeks to a month or two after Yavin:

    A New Hope
(Marvel) Princess Leia (begins during the final scene of ANH)
Heir to the Jedi (weeks after)
(Marvel) Star Wars / Darth Vader (beginning within the first few months following ANH)

So HttJ takes place prior to what we see in the Star Wars comics? I thought the comics took place immediately after Yavin.

In the book, Luke hasn't heard Ben's voice since Yavin. In the end of issue 1 of the Star Wars comic, Luke hear's Ben's voice. The authors have confirmed this is one of the key chronological markers for it.

Of course. Mind you, it doesn't affect the placement of much... mostly Rebels, since Rebels actually has a clear 15 year after Ep III placement date, just not at the start of the series.

My guess was, as I said, Rebels starts at the tail end of what we used to know as 5BBY, or maybe about year 27.5 after Naboo... and then by Empire Day we're exactly 28 years after Naboo, with Ep IV being another 4 and a half years away. Of course, for all we know, that could all be proven wrong later (or never clarified at all), but that's the assumption I'll go with until further notice. I hope each season gets us closer and closer to Ep IV though. It'd be nice to see each season cover roughly a year or so, with maybe a little less if it goes beyond 5 seasons.

I found it interesting that in Rebels Recon, FPJ said something along the lines of that Season 2 begins, "Exactly where you would want it to".

Immediately after Fire Across the Galaxy then? :) (just my opinion, but probably won't happen)

I know we only have three canon novels officially released so far, but I really hope they start adding a timeline soon at the beginning of every book like the EU books had.

it would be interesting if any new list at the front of the book would include Jason Fry's books as well and the other junior novelizations, or would it just stick to the "adult" novels. also it may clarify the dating issues mentioned above.
