1, A good guy in disguise.

2, A bad guy in disguise.

3, Artoo displaying a new gimmick or tool.

4, A fan-worshipped bad guy being killed in a unexpected and rather pathetic manner.

5, A cool new space ship.

6, An ugly new space ship.

7, Every new alien planet, however hostile, has a breathable atmosphere.

8, A 'comical' main character that only four year olds can relate to.

9, One line of dialogue that will be said in the woodiest fashion by the most wooden actor that will be repeated a million times or more in the future on SW forums.

10, A major and important piece of hardware will malfunction or get damaged.

    11, A cybernetic right arm.

    12, A costume make-over for the Stormies.

I think the thing that I would like included is that sense of friendship and warmness between the good guys.

I don't want to turn this post into a "what was missing from the PT" old chestnut but I definitely got the warm feels as a child (and still do!) of the bond that Han, Luke, Leia and Chewie (and even the droids) have that probably starts in earnest after the Battle Of Yavin.

The opening of Empire picks up on this straight away, Jedi has it in spades and Lando is now part of the "circle of trust" too. I think the new ST will have it not only with the presence of the original heroes but I'm getting the sense with John Boyega and Daisy Ridley that they will have that same kind of similar bond. I hope I'm right

In the PT it was lacking in the main but is evident most of all IMHO, in Obi-Wan and Anakin's exchange and farewell just before Obi-Wan leaves for Utapau.

    Friendship...

Aliens and lots of them. All different shapes and sizes too. That's one of the things I love about star wars.

Well I think the movie needs to start out with some family member being killed, yes?

    Shmi - used and deaded

Aunt Beru and Uncle Owen - Burninated.

???????? - downright cooked and capped?

That's a good start. I hope it is fishlips (Leia, I mean..That's her loiving playful nickname from me). That would be a whallop and allow for her kids, Chewie and Han, Luke, etc. to continue along. That also continues with the whole "Women involved with the Skywalker lineage" passing on.

And, don't give me "drrrppp well there is a woman who is the protagonist in this movie and she's gonna be alive!"

Movie ain't out yet. Nor is 8, 9, middle movies, books, cartoons, etc.

Besides the obvious physical items we expect in a SW movie...for me what the OT had was an underdog mentality. Everyone loves the underdog and seeing them overcome insurmountable odds. We got to know Han, Leia, Luke, 3po, r2 and chewie in ANH...and grew with them through ESB and into ROTJ. Others joined the family.....Yoda, Lando and we grew to love them as well. I did not get this feeling in the PT. Not turning this into a PT bash, but that element was missing for me. LOTR offered the same feeling...a band of adventurers that were battling tough odds and we grew with them....I hope to experience this in the ST. Not sure how this can play out with the "underdogs" now the victors..or so I assume but a story line that rings me in and holds me captive. I don't need 50 lightsabers...but subtle hints at cool stuff with a great story. I got that in the OT..did not in the PT..want it in the ST.

Yes, these are both older threads that somehow coexisted on and off... but they are too similar. I'm merging the newer one into the older one, and updating the title to fully encompass both of them.
