I know people slam the comedy, and I agree that some of it falls flat, but I laughed out loud in the scene where..

Luke: "Reach out.. Can you feel the Force?"

Rey: "Yes, I can feel it!"

    Brought the house down.

What brought water to my eyes for an entirely different reason were the final moments of Luke, staring at a marvelous sunset. For some reason it had reminded me of the young Skywalker on Tatooine staring at its twin moons. It's been quite a journey.

Having now seen it a second time, I feel like I enjoyed the movie more. All the sharp edges of my expectations and hopes being subverted were softened and I could just enjoy and pay more attention - I could also hear better (especially everything that DJ says) so some things that didn't make sense to me at first became clearer. I had the same initial reaction to TFA. I subsequently like that movie more every time I watch it. I hope to have the same experience with TLJ (which I probably liked more than TFA on first viewing).

Anyway, here are a few more neat little touches I liked.

There's a big sea monster on Achto in the background of one of the shots (a huge spiked tail).
Nien Numb survives! (He can be seen on the Falcon at the end).
The blue lightsabre being caught by Rey in the room was a really nice callback to the moment in TFA.
Poe putting his hand on Leia's (same hand that slapped him earlier), their's is a very mother son relationship I thought.
No more Abednedos were hurt in the making of this film.
The Captain of the Dreadnought was really well done, with his acute awareness of what was going on and his reaction when he knew it was over for him.
Kylo Ren in his Silencer was pretty terrifying, and the grimness of him killing a lot of the pilots while they were still getting ready in their ships was quite powerful.
The turbolaser fire impacting the rear shields of the Raddus was nice. A constant reminder of the danger that they were facing. And each time one of the support ships failed seeing it be destroyed was heartbreaking (I noticed this time the transport leaving both ships, so fortunately the causalties weren't so much).

I'm very curious about the deleted scenes and sequences that RJ has mentioned.

I'm pretty sure that Achto actually only has one sun. The second sun appears only to Luke as he's ascending.

Luke watching the suns set, made me cry

Luke kissing Leia on the head
Luke pulling a Padme/Corde with Kylo.
Finn and Rose just getting through the blast doors on Crait like Anakin and Obi Wan in episode 3.
Yoda telling Luke he missed him
Leia using the force, I loved it. Lucas always connected Leia with the air and sky. Alderaan is mountainous, Lando tells her she belongs in the clouds. If anyone should fly, she should.
Luke catching Kylo and Rey frolicking in a mud hut. Kylo may as well have had his pants down. LOL
The lightsaber breaking in two and then the Supremacy breaking in two with that same white core light.

Their siren, I'm sure I've heard that before. Was it used on Coruscant in episode II or Clone Wars?

Just saw it again so lots of fresh good memories:

    1) “I believe he’s toying with you, Sir.”
    2) Getting a sense of logistics for taking down a ship like the dreadnought in this universe and the sense of accomplishment when it happens.
    3) Leia’s line about dead heroes but no leaders.
    4) Rose turning from sad to impressed by Finn to total disappointment. Very cool intro to a new character.
    5) Finn walking around with the liquids shooting out like he just walked out of a hospital with the back untied or something.
    6) Poe running to get to his ship and then Kylo Ren personally delivering a huge blow to the Resistence.
    7) Seeing Leia’s first Force power on screen. Admittedly a weird moment but still cool to see.
    8) The News that the lady with red hair delivers of the loss of senior leadership and the sense of loss by the crew. They nailed the sense of a real movement and a band of brothers.
    9) Snoke smashing Hux to the ground.
    10) Luke throwing the saber and Rey’s shock.
    11) Rey finding the tree and Luke talking about ancient Jedi texts.
    12) Luke milking and spearing. Just seeing his way of life.
    13) Rey trying to train but messing up the caretakers way of life. Lots of laughs in the theatre.
    14) The Kurosawa Ran perspectives on the fateful new Jedi temple destruction day that’s been messing with Luke ever since.
    15) Adam Driver and Rey’s connection scenes. So much better than people let on. The moment where Kylo Ren can feel her rain was a nice touch to how the Force connects everything and sets up Luke’s Mind trick on everyone.
    16) The Canto Bight Cops and Casino.
    17) The kids in the stables.
    18) The first view of the Falthiers all coming forward and clearly being practical models. So 1980s.
    19) The shot of the Falthiers with the moon. Reminded me of a Miyazaki anime coming to life. Magestic.
    20) D.J. not really having a heart of gold like everyone else grey in Star Wars.
    21) The mutiny by Poe. Oscar Issac is so likeable.

I’ll add more soon but with the servers lately better I post this before they crash again.

ALL the scenes are so beautiful.

The top 2 for me are Snoke vs Kylo/Rey and Luke vs Kylo. Those are the key moments of this movie.

    22) Rey mirror scene. Artistically done.
    23) R2 playing the Leia hologram and Luke’s reaction.
    24) Luke’s happiness seeing Chewie and R2 and how he sounds more like his old self from the happiness.
    25) Yoda scene! Great dialogue and the first reminder of the Luke of old who was so focused on the big stuff that he failed to deal with the issues right in front of him holding him back. Yoda knowing the books are gone and setting the tree on fire to show Luke it wasn’t the old stuff that was Luke’s problems. Farm boy Luke coming back when Yoda asks him about the books.
    26) Rey leaving Luke sort of like he did Yoda.
    27) Her hoping to see good in him when her pod arrives and seeing hand cuffs instead.
    28) Their talk in the elevator and her truly believing at her core based on what she’d seen that he will kill Snoke. When she says she’ll help him I was moved and reminded of the kind of team up stuff I wished I’d seen sometimes of Luke and Vader as a kid.
    29) Snoke bringing the saber all the way around and hitting her with it and just completely dominating her.
    30) Snoke’s arrogance getting the best of him after he stares her down face to face and presents her for Kylo Ren to kill. He’s so happy at knowing Skywalker’s location and that she was deceived and that his apprentice will reach the next level that I had the sense he was focused on trying to enjoy her fear. Ben Solo becomes a master manipulator in this movie and passes Snoke’s test by intending to kill Rey but using deep meditative techniques to catch Snoke off guard. It’s a stunning moment and reminds of Kylo Ren holding the blaster in mid air and talking to another person. Ben Solo’s mutitasking manipulation of the Force is probably just short of Master level. If there’s one area he’s truly special in its that and I love that Johnson utilized that to kill Snoke. The theatres I’ve seen this in are shocked. It’s like a game of thrones death. People are so used to convention that when it’s broken they suddenly felt like anything could happen. It’s the perfect setup for what comes next.
    31) The Praetorian guard’s fight is one of my favorite in all of Star Wars. There’s so much emotion and the colors and fire use are amazing.
    32) Rey’s excitement for them doing it and instantly believing that Ben Solo will join her now. When she realizes he won’t and he puts out his hand and she starts saying “Don’t do this...” it’s heart breaking. Like feeling like you got someone off heroine only to find them shooting up later. Total disappointment. If we hadn’t spoiled this stuff it would have been insane. I think that thought on every viewing and sort of regret spoiling as much as I did. It’s so good and so well acted.
    33) I’ve mostly been going in order but the Porgs really are great. They didn’t overdo them. Well timed. The Chewie eating them moment is so subversive and then cute. Johnson is awesome. Dark and light in one scene.
    34) I liked how the First Order was aware of the fuel and just revelling in how screwed the Resistence were. When they start shooting the unarmed ships it makes you hate the Resistence so much more.
    35) Loved the setup of the old tech of the base and the crappy ski speeders. One of the best laughs was when Poe puts his foot down and a piece falls off.
    36) The Death Star tech stuff of the ram was a nice touch.
    37) Foxes were great. Life finds a way.
    38) Falcon mine scene is insane in 3D. So beautiful. So much depth. Loved the physics and the Light refracting. Beautiful.
    39) Luke arriving like Gandalf the White as an advance mine trick. Everything he does here is essentially an illusion. Even the dice weren’t real. He used the Force to move things to make it seem like he was there when he wasnt. This entire scene is amazing.
    40) Bb8 blasting guys. He really is the next level up of what R2 was to us as kids for a new generation of kids.
    41) Rey lifting the rocks.
    42) Poe meeting Rey finally.
    43) Rey seeing Finn care for Rose.
    44) Kylo Ren not chasing Rey. Almost a peace treaty.
    45) The kids acting out the legend of Luke as the spark Luke intended it to be.
    46) Luke becoming one with the Force and seeing the 2 suns.
    47) Force kid looking up as a future Luke someday. Very Dickens. Loved it.

    Best scenes:

    - Rey and Kylo team-up, if only for a few minutes.
    - Raddus shredding the Supremacy. He’s still kicking butt years after his death.

    Best line:

    - Hux to Kylo after the walker barrage: “Do you think you got him?”

-Every battle was fantastic (especially Rey and Kylo vs. praetorian guards and Luke vs Kylo)
-Rey levitating the rocks and giving hope to the Resistance while Luke say "they already has a jedi" (something like that)
    -Luke and Leia moment
-The boy in the final scene (a lot of people cried, I thought his scene reminds Luke in ANH looking at the sky)
    -Holdo last scene
    -"OH! I'M FEELING IT!"
    -"hm. Hello, Supreme LeadAAHH"
-Rey mentioning Finn and hugging him in the rocks scene
-“you were always scum” “rebel scum”
    -Rey screaming when she attacks
-The First Order attacking Luke and he being like "anyway..."

I saw it for the third time last night. I know I’ve mentioned this scene before, but I just want to expand on it. The scene where Chewie and Rey are being chased in the Falcon through the crystal cavern is amazing. It might even be my favourite scene in the entire film. There’s a little zoom that the camera does on Rey after her gun gets damaged where I think she yells “Chewie!”, then it skips quickly to Chewie as he roars. The classic Star Wars music playing just makes it that much better. In fact, everything about this scene was done so perfectly down to the little details, especially with the editing, that it just made me feel like a little kid watching Star Wars for the first time again.

How the hell aftet thinking Up 40+ of my favorite moments did I forget about Holdo’s sacrifice! It’s so bad ass. Loved the silence and multiple views of the ship. It’s so epic. It was one of the things I thought of on my drive home visually.

    The destruction looks amazing too.

Notice how Kylo was a GENIUS to play his master:

    1) When he is going to strike Rey, he puts his Lightsaber in a way he was to twist it first to attack her
    2) Snoke senses his intention to twist his Lightsaber to hit his true enemy
    3) Snoke was wrong about a) which lightsaber Kylo was actually twisting, and b) who his true enemy actually was

Kylo has an evil mind and is a very interesting villain. We are well served by him for EP IX. No new Emperor, thanks.

No issue with Leia's space move. All she did was lift her arm - like EVERY Jedi in every movie. She was floating in space. Not sure what people think that was supposed to look like. I actually was very happy to see her do more with the Force than just act as a ham radio.

    - Kylo and Ren dynamic was excellent. Held the movie together
    - Luke and Rey were fascinating to watch. The odd joke was very welcome. Yoda cracked jokes throughout his training of Luke.
    - loved seeing puppet yoda again. Never liked flubber Yoda.
    - Hux seems divisive, but I found him entertaining
    - Fin getting tasered was a belly laugh for me. Nice one "big deal".
    - Snoke was almost the best thing in the movie. His CGI was excellent and his mind games were Palpatine level good
    - Chewie kicking in Luke's door was a nice touch. Chewie was definitely Chewie in this movie. Big tick.

    - but for me the entire throne room scene was great. When Kylo and Rey went back to back and ignited their sabers I got goosebumps.
    - the lightspeed collision was legit one of the most impressive visuals I've ever seen in SW.

Meh. TLJ was imperfect. But the negativity seems to involve a lot of nitpicking and appears as much about unrequited expectations as anything else.

The throne room fight for me was great for obvious reasons (great acting, great choreography, great storytelling). But I really love the subtly and undertones of the scene. Rey thinks Kylo has come back to being Ben. Kylo thinks he can sway Rey to join him. Both team up because 1) they are facing a mutual enemy and 2) because they want to believe something about the other. Not to mention, the parallel of light and dark working together is pretty poetic as well.

Awesome, will pay more attention on my next viewing.
That's interesting. I thought it was just to show he was emotionally affected by their conversation. Your take on it makes more sense.

Keep an eye out for the very last look Hux gives in the movie. It's towards Kylo, who definitely has a target on his back now. Hux will plot to have him killed. Count on it.

I really admired how the persistent use of red melded with the fiery and passionate emotions of the narrative. Moreover, the film immediately starting after the events of The Force Awakens resulted in the characters' choices having a fascinating sense of urgency. Additionally, the little details of the passage of time really struck me on a second viewing. Hux looks like he has had no sleep in the opening scene. The first few interactions between Rey and Kylo become quite comical as she keeps on calling him a monster as though she is in a frightful mood with him. But I think that reaction illustrates how fresh the wounds of her experiences are and the timeline of events lent that with an authentic potency and weight.

Above all, I adored the final duel between Luke and Kylo. I think it's one of the few duels in the saga that reflects Yoda's mantra about the Jedi in The Empire Strikes Back- “A Jedi uses the Force for knowledge and defence, never for attack.” In many ways, the duel powerfully encapsulates those ideas and greatly fulfils the narrative and Luke's character arc. It's also impressive because it evoked a Sergio Leone western showdown with its frequent close-up of eyes and the surrounding drama. Leone believed the build-up to the duel was more crucial than the showdown itself and Johnson wonderfully works with this ethos while also adhering to one of the fundamental ideas in all of Star Wars.
