Italy will get to the Quarter-Finals and then defend themselves into a corner... eventually going out on penalties when just a little bit more of an attacking bent would've seen them through comfortably.

Some smaller team will knock em out and they'll complain about the referee.

Gawd I hate these World Cup warm up games. They're a necessary evil. The players need to play otherwise they'll be in no condition to perform at the required standard next month... but they risk injury in doing do. Grrr... [face_frustrated]

On the positive side, at least Rooney won't get injured playing in one of them.

    Ditto.

    Owen, Carrick and Crouch.

EDIT: Oh and one other thing re: Roonaldo... if the news about today's scan on his foot was bad, I don't think Ferguson could contain himself until tomorrow. He'd be announcing Rooney's out of the tournament quicker than a flash under the banner of 'letting you all know the situation ASAP'.

Ugh, the Claudio Reyna apparently pulled his Hamstring so he'll be missing the USA's last two warm up games. I hope he's good to go for the actual cup though. Without him, the US is far worse team.

I'm waiting for Brazil to be knocked out in the first round and England to get mullered in the second, and then Holland to cruise to victory.

I hope the US' defense plays better in the torunament, or our goose could be cooked. We should just learn from the Italians. They always make the semifinals no matter how bad their roster is thanks to their defensive psychology.

speak for yourself champ...as a proud member of the green & gold army (the official socceroos fan club) i most certainly speak for us all when i say we DO NOT suck at football. you dont qualify for the world cup if you suck! :)

of course brazil are the stand outs, and germany always perform on the world stage and being at home this could be their time. but theres always an upset or two, and some big teams fail and newer nations can surprise...

so im hoping we're one of them! go aussies, ill be there in germany supporting you!!!

Okay fine. We've sucked at football untill now. There's no way you can argue with that ;)
But it's not the socceroos fault. 90% of our country hates football :(

ill be there in germany supporting you!!!

Niiiiiiiiiiice. I don't like Germany but nice. I'm jelous.

Can't wait. Two weeks today and the greatest sporting competition in the world kicks off.

I'm optimistic about England's hopes. We've got the best squad of players that we've had in 40 years and Rooney looks like he will play some part this summer. We'll find out for sure today.

    C'mon England!!

Rooney will not play in the group stages...

    http://home.skysports.com/worldcup/article.asp?hlid=390098&CPID=4&clid=114&lid=2&title=ROONEY+OUT+OF+GROUP+STAGES

    and here...

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/world_cup_2006/teams/england/5019094.stm

Whats weird is that the BBC web site had a report saying that the results of the scan showed that he wouldn't make any of the world cup at all, but they changed it minutes after putting it up.
